  1. Me strohkopf. Me no smart like boxcar willy. I asked you earlier. Do you actually expect the Jays to compete for a wildcard this year? I don't. I actually prefer Reid Foley over Borucki by quite a bit. I just think they should each pitch north of 100 innings in the majors this year. This is the year to get the process of starting to figure out what type of players you have and help their development. I don't want to see Morales or Smoak playing after July unless you plan on resigning Smoak. We have a ridiculous amount of dollars to spend starting next year. They may not actually start spending it, but it's there. We need to get some young guys some time.
  2. Well steamer has him close to 5 so we should probably DFA him and clear up a spot on the 40. That Richard is the guy that I'm excited to see. He's only 35. He might really surprise us with some upside this year.
  3. He sucks because he doesn’t light up the radar? When you put up a 3.8 fip in 97.2 big league innings don’t you at least deserve the opportunity to prove you’re s***.
  4. Gurriel is in his 2nd full season, Teoscar is in his second full season. There are plenty of young players. Smoak and Morales are both gone at the end of the year. They will be doing their absolute best to move them in season and could very well find a taker for smoak bringing in another young player like Tellez. Last time I checked Luciano would be considered a kid by most. I'm not sure what you're on about. Do you actually think the Jays are going to compete this year?
  5. It would be one thing if we had any chance at competing, but we don't. If we had a chance to compete, I'd be all for Gio. There are plenty of shitballers to eat innings if we have a rash of injuries in the rotation. We can't go through the season without Borucki and Reid foley getting significant playing time. Behind that there's Merryweather Panonne, Zeuch etc.
  6. Why? You want to wait for a bounce back and pay double? At some point the Jays are going to have to gamble to make up ground on the Yankees and Sox.
  7. We're playing the kids at every other position. The pitching is our biggest weakness. We need to give the kids a shot and help them develop or at least figure out what we have. As it stands, only Borucki will be in the rotation. Sean Reid foley probably won't get his shot until well into the season.
  8. He's got 2 years of control Are we giving up all hope of competing in 2020? It wouldn't be so bad to roll the dice and sign him to an extension on the cheap right now.
  9. I like the Buchholz signing....can we DFA Richard now.
  10. yes it's his new home run trot....it's called the "in your face shatkins" home run trot.
  11. Tulo with home run number 2 today.
  12. Grichuk isn't a bad defender or base runner. He's still got upside. You could have said the same thing about Hicks from age 23 to 26...he had shown little to no improvement and then he took off. Grichuk is still young enough make strides and he has the athleticism. It may never materialize, but the Jays pretty much specialize in late bloomers. Bautista, EE, smoak...why not Grichuk.
  13. That's ridiculous. The front office should do everything they can to build a winner for the fans. I don't really want a GM releasing a guy so a contender can sign him on the cheap for him to have a chance to win. Maybe shatkins can trade Vladdy in 5 years to a team that's a top contender and one he wants to go to rather than the team that offers the best package. That would be really nice for Vladdy to go to his preferred team after having endured the crap years with the Jays.
  14. They did give up on him. Atkins came right out and said that it was unlikely that Troy would be an average or above average short stop again. He said, I'm sure if you asked Troy he'd agree. When he actually said that I laughed out loud. Troy Tulowitzki is the most competitive guy out there. Troy absolutely believes he's an above average short stop. They did him a favour by releasing him. There is no doubt about this. They screwed the fans over by doing that. Troy saying the Jays gave up on me is like saying the sky is blue. Everyone in the world knows the Jays gave up on him. They gave him 38 million not to play. What other conclusion could one come to?
  15. I said 2 months ago that Tulo was putting up a 5+ win season and that was going in the bold predictions thread. I said feel free to laugh then and feel free to laugh now. I think Tulo puts up a 3+ win season this year. How exactly did Tulo s*** all over Toronto publicly?
  16. Shapkins can eat a bag of dicks when Tulo puts up a great season and they realize they could have saved dollars and acquired assets by trading him mid season instead of letting him go.
  17. The Jays management team said, "You're so bad, we're going to pay you 38 million to play against us." How did you think he was going to react. Tulo's going to have a great year, and it's going to piss me off.
  18. confidence is key for all athletes in all sports. Pompey needed to get off to a good start and have that confidence. One game doesn't mean anything, but I'm pulling for Pompey. I hope he has a good spring.
  19. He's got a career 3.62 FIP and he definitely dealt with pitching without 100% health last year. That's not a 40 arm. People are downgrading his talent because of personal bias. He's an extremely important asset at this point. We need to trade him for no less than what he's worth. If we can't trade him for what he's worth because of all the background noise, we should consider the alternative of extending him at a discount because of the background noise. I tend to think the latter is better route to entertain, but I haven't seen his medical reports. I'm not sure how much injury risk is there. His ego could prevent a reasonable extension as well. It may be a rock and a hard place. The longer it goes the more difficult it will become. Management should at least be engaging his agent on extension talks to see where the numbers are.
  20. hard to imagine the Padres trading Paddack for Stroman.
  21. the sign of a truly great gm is one who signs or extends a player he can't stand, because the player represents great long term value for the team regardless of how much a douche he is.
  22. We traded for Richard to pitch in our rotation. We're going to suck next year. Managers get paid to put the best relievers in games in high leverage situations.
  23. It has nothing to do with the fact that he's Canadian. There's some serious Canadian hate on this board. It has everything to do with his Oscars picks. Seriously though, he's a great guy and will be good for clubhouse culture. We're going to suck this year and he put a 4.02 FIP for us last year. He's not great, but he's not terrible. We need guys to pitch innings and having a few veterans around in the clubhouse isn't such a bad thing.
  24. next year or three years from now?
  25. Smoak didn't replace EE, Morales did. Morales has not produced similar results although he's getting 11 mil and EE would have got 20 so we saved some money. It would have been wise to avoid both in hindsight.
