  1. blame shatkins..
  2. Yeah, Merryweather is without a doubt better than Sanchez.
  3. I've read on here for years how much smarter Andrew Friedman is than most GMs. He just traded for a veteran backup catcher with one year of control. He knows what he's getting. He gave up 2 prospects for this. That probably tells you all you need to know about the value of these prospects.
  4. I like that Russ got moved to a contender. From a Jays perspective they would have got just as good of a return at the deadline as they did right now. I would have preferred to keep Russ to the deadline, because I think a veteran can pass on some knowledge to a young catcher like Jansen. If the goal is to lose as many games as possible and get a high draft pick, this was probably the right move though..lol.
  5. This is the trouble I have with this team. Who are the horses in the rotation in 2021? Maybe this is where they want to spend their free agent dollars. I just don't see enough high end pitching prospects to see a quality rotation in a two or three years.
  6. It's easy to be happy when it's not your money. The idea of a pitcher taking a middle infielder's spot is ridiculous. Gurriel or Urena are the guys taking Tulo's spot. Both have options. If Tulo plays like crap like Atkins predicted no one will care. If he plays close to a league average shortstop or better, people will complain, because they could have traded him for some sort of prospect and saved some money. Time will tell.
  7. Just curious. You're living in leeds, but are you original from Canada, right? Have you been to a few leeds united games?
  8. here here...2019 AL MVP Troy Tulowitzki!
  9. the strength of the Raptors and the leafs doesn't help matters either. I wouldn't expect great attendance numbers. It's a shame.
  10. Walker looks like he might actually get in. With the jump it looks like he's getting this year and if 4 or 5 guys get in, he's looking like a realistic add for 2020 in his final season.
  11. Okay, I can capitulate on that. He might not lead the league, but he gave up 1.1 HR per 9 the last 2 years pitching at Petco. He's now going into his age 35 season pitching at Rogers in the American league. There's no pitcher in the AL. I don't think his HR/FB ratio is magically reverting back to league average. He's a s***** pitcher. He has zero upside. He will eat innings. We aren't competing next year so it is what it is. Anyone who tries to convince me we can flip him at the deadline for anything of any significance just makes me laugh. Feel free to bring up this thread and laugh at me if that actually happens. I would love to be wrong.
  12. He's a more than a year older than Tulo. He's moving from San Diego to Rogers Centre. He's going to lead the league in homers given up if he pitches more than 180 innings.
  13. That is a very optimistic outlook. I would be shocked if he posts an ERA under 4 in the AL East and get player anywhere close to McKinney or Teoscar. I don't see how Richard would fit on a team in a playoff race. Who's going to trade for him. I could see shoemaker bringing a return, but not Richard.
  14. This is a zero upside, zero downside move. The Jays could have signed Lynn for 3 for 30, but that came with both upside and downside risk. Instead we got a guy who won't help in the future, but he won't hurt the future either. I just don't see how the Jays are going to compete in 2 or 3 years unless they take a few chances. Maybe next year we will see some them gamble a bit more.
  15. I actually like this idea a lot. I'm not sure Stroman's ego will allow him to realize what a fair offer would be. I'd give stroman 2 to 3 years extension at 15 or 16 mil a season.
  16. It would have matter a ton because we could have traded him at the deadline this year and got back some decent prospects. I don't rate Gurriel as highly as some do, but even if Tulo was here, we could have played Gurriel at short and 2nd and played Tulo at short and DH. We could have found at bats for both of them for a few months until the deadline hit. This all hinges on Tulo still being capable of being a very good player. We got rid of Tulo because management no longer considered him an asset of worth.
  17. By letting him go we eat 38 mil less the league min which is just under 600K, do we not? I would have just rather not saved the league min salary and kept the asset, because Tulo is putting up a monster 5+ win season this year. Put that in the bold predictions thread! Feel free to laugh away at me now!
  18. I like SRF in the majors as well. I think he has the highest ceiling and he pitched very effectively in the minors last year. I don't think he has anything left to prove in the minors. If we were in a position to compete, I could advocate starting him in AAA. Let him go through the ups and downs in the majors this year. We won't have the pressure of actually being in a playoff race.
  19. No...It's a bit early to be drinking. Maybe in a few hours though.
  20. reading 3 or 4 negative twitter posts does not a significant sample size make and attributing those views to vast majority of blue jay fans is pure conjecture. It gets a little tiresome hearing people post how brilliant they are and how dumn the average fan is. It's assumed that everyone who posts on here thinks they are much more intelligent than the average fan. Taking the time to type out that casual fans are dumn is redundant. As far as the signing goes, he's a perfect fit for where we are as a team. I've never been adverse to gambling on injury prone guys though. The cost on this one pretty much makes it a no brainer. I would have kept Tulo for just under 600K a season he would have cost as well.
  21. I'd rather make predictions on that. Why would they return him? Do the Jays have any chance of competing next year? Absolutely not. Why wouldn't you keep a 19 year old kid in the majors if he has upside and you can just put him back in the minors next year? Players get returned to teams, because they are usually 25 and 26 years old and suck in the majors. A 19 year old not handling the majors isn't unexpected and he has plenty of time to develop unlike the 25 or 26 year old guy taken in the draft.
  22. I'm not saying don't trade him. If you get a guy or two who could potentially make a difference, make the deal. I'd rather move Stroman for some higher ceiling, higher risk prospects than guys that might be closer to being major league ready and have a lower ceiling. I don't see a way for this team to compete in 3 years unless get some big wins on trades. I'd rather risk Stroman has a bounce back to get a real piece at the deadline than sell low at this point. If you can get that piece now, then deal him.
  23. If the Jays sell low on Stroman and don't get back a piece that could be a contributor to a winner in 2 to 3 years, it will be a disappointment. I'd rather hang on to him and see if he has a good start so they can sell him at the dead line for something meaningful.
  24. Which prospects other than Bo, Vlad and Jansen are you really high on?
  25. Look at their lineup. On paper, they are at least in the discussion for a wild card.
