  1. Maybe he'll agree to taking just a portion of his money then re-sign in Japan. In any case a 40-man spot has been cleared.
  2. I was looking back at some of AA's drafts and 2015 has to be one of the worst drafts by a team ever lol https://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?team_ID=TOR&year_ID=2015&draft_type=junreg&query_type=franch_year&from_type_jc=0&from_type_hs=0&from_type_4y=0&from_type_unk=0 Travis Bergen's 1.2 innings are probably the only thing the Blue Jays are going to get from that entire class. Brady Singer wasn't signed and his pick turned into JB Woodman.
  3. Wasn't Marcus talking about him and Bauer last night? I think Marcus is projecting!
  4. I guessed 1/$42M back in August and thought that could be a touch high. Pretty good guess though! https://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/9301-Around-Baseball-2020?p=1446389&viewfull=1#post1446389
  5. I don't see why Arenado would opt out. Unless he put up like an 8 WAR season in 2021. He's making $35M for the next four seasons, then $32M, then $27M. I don't see him realistically matching that in free agency.
  6. Yeah. My post was inspired by seeing a comment that suggested offering Walker 2 years $25 million.
  7. The Sportsnet commenters are going to be irate when Taijuan Walker signs for like 1/$7M with the Mariners or something.
  8. Jon Harris streams like every day on Twitch to 1 or 0 viewers. Kinda sad to be honest! https://www.twitch.tv/jharris_29
  9. There is just so little professional data on Groshans that I can't really get too miffed at any ranking of his. Law must think he's not a shortstop. It's hard to imagine a shortstop with his batspeed and power potential not cracking a top 100. Nate Pearson is kinda in a weird spot in the Blue Jays fandom right now. They've got a guy ranked #5 on at least one list and there is basically no chatter about him. Remember all the hype from Travis Snider when he was similarly ranked. Obviously it's because expectations were tempered by last season and we've been blue-balled for a whole year due to his injury and performance. It's just a game of wait and see, no questions of potential service time manipulation going into the spring training. The big acquisitions distract from Pearson too but he just seems to be in a weird place in the minds of Blue Jays fans right now lol
  10. Don't like this much but the 40-man spots were needed and Matz has some upside I guess.
  11. It's already posted in this thread. They got Loup!
  12. I liked McCown because he was interested in sportswriters and sports stories. He'd often have interesting guests on in the 6pm hour. The Friday roundtables where McCown and some writers would get together and just discuss a slew of topics were often something to avoid, lest they start trying to place armchair GM. Maybe those points sound a bit contradictory but I just mean the storytelling was good, the analysis often bad.
  13. WAR leaderboards for the last three seasons: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2020&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2018-01-01&enddate=2020-12-31&sort=22,d Obviously it skews things with the shortened season last year but Semiem is #11 in baseball. Just ahead of Nolan Arenado.
  14. So who's first out on the 40-man? Ty Tice? Yennsy Diaz? Maybe Derek Fisher is gone. Jonathan Davis?
  15. Any source other than a random IG account? I won't put any stock in this yet. Edit: Wow. $18M is high but it's one year so who cares. Great deal. Ridiculous cadre of position player talent now.
  16. To start the year I think the lineup is more likely to be something like: Springer Bichette Gurriel Jr Hernandez Guerrero Jr Biggio Tellez Grichuk Jansen They probably get another infielder though. I think Springer definitely leads off. Travis Shaw was batting third deep into last season. The front office isn't going to send Charlie a lineup with Bichette hitting third.
  17. I think Bauer signs that deal the instant it's offered.
  18. With Ray, Stripling and Chatwood I think it's clear that there's going to be piggybacking and playing matchups with the rotation next year. 3-5.5 is a nice price. He's been pretty good since his disastrous 2018.

    NBA Thread

I'm not too into NBA stats but I think they give that picture. He had a .628 TS% in 18-19 which is elite. He cratered down to .554 TS% last season which is just around average. He shot .602% on 2-point attempts in the championship season and .499% last year. I don't know how much is lost athleticism but a significant part of it is the opposition's defence. He used to go to the spin-move well time and time again. Jaylen Brown absolutely owned him in that Boston series. He couldn't get anything going in the half court. He resorted to bricking long 2s. I think he's a bit better than okay on defence though.
  20. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/top-blue-jays-prospect-alek-manoah-made-sure-2020-wasnt-lost-year/
  21. I'd say just start Manoah at AA. He turns 23 a month from today. Austin Martin to Vancouver.
  22. https://www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/blue-jays-kloffenstein-salvaged-2020-development-covid-league/ King Kloff has apparently touched 99. Last I heard his stuff had ticked down a bit and was more 92-93. If he's now sitting in the mid-90s that's big.
  23. Could not agree more. I want to learn to scrape a website just so I can tally up every player he's linked to the Blue Jays on Twitter vs those that actually end up signing. His hit rate has to be under 1%
  24. Still looks like a lot more than 10 pounds of bad weight there.
