  1. They might just want to see how he looks in spring training. They can still cut him before the season.
  2. At the beginning of the off-season they mentioned 180M as a number for their payroll. Payroll is only at 140M. Atkins could probably add another 40M. Now they may not spend all the 40M this offseason, they may hold some back to upgrade in-season.
  3. They should actually lower it to 200 or even 190. And then put a floor in at around 80M. The players would end up ahead.
  4. To make trades, or join the draft? I expect we'll see trades as the draft gets moving. I thought about joining the draft, but then remembered I had Vladdy. Wouldn't risk the future Bluejays HOFer.
  5. I would like to trade for a dispersal pick as well
  6. I don't see anything majorly wrong with that Franco deal. He might end up leaving some money on the table. But this is a player with half a season in the majors.
  7. Ray has that optout as well. So if he's good you only get him for 3, if he loses his control again he's there for 5. Haven't seen how the money is paid out yet. It could be heavily front loaded which makes it essentially a 3 year high aav deal, with 2 safety net years for Ray included.
  8. I'd like to see if Walker could do anything with Carlos Martinez
  9. There's still advantages to tanking in MLB. Like receiving more pool money.
  10. Kris Bryant would be a perfect fit. Give him a mixture of 3B, OF to give Hernandez/Gurriel/Springer a DH day, 1B to give Vladdy a DH day. If/when Moreno is up on the days he plays 3B are the days Bryant could flip to the OF or 1B to give one of those guys a rest from the field.
  11. It was mostly because of 2 back to back starts; 7/19 and 7/24. After those two he had a 3.00 FIP the rest of the way.
  12. But where's the seat edge sitting excitement in that?
  13. It's starting to get that Toronto is a desirable place to play. Good clubhouse atmosphere. A nice city, where the players can walk to the stadium. A very competitive team. That's 2 players so far that took less money to sign with the Jays, was reported that Yimi had a higher offer as well. Plus Berrios signed his extension after pitching a short time here.
  14. It was probably the extra 1-2 years. I'm not sure how this profile will hold up going into his mid-30's. Doesn't have a ton of power to spare. I would have been fine with 5 years, with the assumption that for the 5th year he wouldn't be worth his salary. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/marcus-semien-543760?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb
  15. Reported for wanting us to sign Zack Greinke.
  16. The tax thing is normally always blown out of proportion. I think they pay taxes on money they earn while playing away games at the rate of wherever they are playing. And depending on where he lives in the off-season he might have to pay taxes for money earned over that time. Where a player actually signs probably only has something like a 25% effect on total income tax. There's probably accounting tricks the players use all the time.
  17. With Escobar going to the Mets, JD Davis might be available. I’d be checking in on him.
  18. 1:1 pick is better than Bregman. So makes sense.
  19. Vladdy - 2022 AL 1B Gold Glove Winner
  20. If Matz decides he wants to sign with the Cards there's no point in the agent checking back with the Mets before the deal is signed. The decision to sign with who and where is up to Matz. Maybe when the agent was talking with the Mets originally St Louis hadn't even reached out yet. And who's to say the agent wasn't going to reach out to the Mets GM today to explain the circumstances. And what if the Cards informed Matz that they offered similar deals to a couple other pitchers, and first to accept would get the deal? Do you think that Matz' agent is going to wait around to hear back from the Mets. If the Mets really wanted him they would have made him an offer.
  21. I think Montreal makes the most sense. Might be the largest city to not have an MLB team?
  22. I can see him treating the team like a redraft with no thought to the future. Then abandoning the team when it starts to become anything but a contender. Excuse will be, “too busy with school”. I would like to be proved wrong though.
  23. I don’t think this would happen at all. Don’t players have to be vaxed to play in NY? Which is why Irving is currently sitting out. Are they gonna tell the Yankees and Mets that they can’t play at home either?
  24. A writer that probably does all his scouting from the radio.
