    I haven't watched 1 WS game this season, they are on way too late for me. With a 9:10pm start time and a possible 4 hour game, it wouldn't get over until 1AM.

    Maybe the Jays want to supervise his move to 3B and see how he looks there? He was originally a SS/2B so he should probably be athletic enough to play 3B. There would still be a learning curve for him. Might be one of those Spring Training experiments.

    He is tied for the lead in DRS and laps the other options in assists. LF fielders are just generally bad.

    They just wanted to come up with an excuse before their loss this week. The only win they have against a team with a winning record is the OT win against the Bengals.

    I think we see the Cubs competing as soon again as this upcoming season, I think this past season was just a tiny blip. They won the division in 2020, and were tied for the division lead this past season on June 24th. They have a lot of payroll space to work with, and I expect a couple big FA signings. They could probably add something like 100M in payroll. They were smart to move all their expiring contracts, they picked up a load of prospects and young players to refill the cupboards.

    If Moreno's bat is as advertised I think we should keep Jansen and start him the majority of the time at catcher. This would allow Moreno to still catch some, but keep his bat in the lineup more with less wear and tear on the body. Moreno catches 2 starters, Jansen catches 3. Moreno would get ~60 games behind the plate, ~90 at 3B. Jansen ~100 behind the plate.

    Thing is we need 2 starting pitchers. Matz is better than probably half those guys you listed, and most will be looking for multi year deals. If Matz did except they'd only have to concentrate on signing one of the top guys.

    I'm not sure you understand the meaning of "at his absolute best". Check out his 2nd half stats, that would be consider "at his best".

    I wouldn't really call giving Matz a QO a crazy idea. The front office will have to guess what Matz is feeling. They've probably already reached out to him to get an idea of extension costs. The cost of a win in Free Agency in 2020 was 9.1 M/WAR. Matz put up 2.8 last year, so if he does the same again the QO would represent a surplus value using FA money. That said, I think 18.4M is too high of a AAV for Matz on a multi year deal, I'm okay with it being a 1 year commitment. The team would be paying a bit of a premium to get him on a 1 year deal. This would allow the money to open back up next offseason for more signs or extensions.

    Huge stolen base. Instead of an inning ending double play, they were able to bring Betts to the plate and now have the lead.
