Why do you even care so much about this Braves trade FFS? Geez you guys need to get a life! Braves will still be a 95-100 win team and one of the top teams in baseball next season. Also, they have already won a World Series in 2021. Flags fly forever!

Spanky just said it was too early to trade Soroka after not being healthy since 2019. I used Manoah as an example if he s*** the bed in 2024, and if Atkins traded him for pennies after or non-tendered him that would be asset mismanagement according to Spanky and Laika. I have no problem with the Jays giving Manoah another chance in 2024. No different than the Braves hoping Soroka could stay healthy and rebound after his surgeries. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Though Spanky said he was in favour to trade Manoah now before that happens.

Not looking to pick arguments with anyone and I don't put words in other people's mouth. All I pointed out was Atlanta's reasoning behind those moves. You then got all triggered when I said it wouldn't have been a bad idea for the Braves to keep Nicky Lopez if they could have as a backup middle infielder. You were the one who actually picked an argument.

If it was too early to trade Soroka, same applies to Manoah this offseason then according to you.

All I stated was that every team in baseball at some point runs assets into the ground and never trade them at the opportune time. AA has for sure, and never denied that. To say he's the only GM who runs assets into the ground, give me a break. Like I said if he does it "spectacularly and at volume" like Laika said, give me a list of those instances when he was with the Braves. You actually were becoming one of my favourite posters on this board who actually is rational in comparison to some of the shills on here. Don't know what I said that was so controversial but alright! Cheers!

I responded to Jim's comment about the Jay's selling out every game with Ohtani here. They will if they remain competitive and if Ohtani stays healthy. Don't know what is so controversial in stating that. Team success at the end of the day has the bigger impact on attendance. Doesn't matter which star players you have. If you aren't winning or competitive, that will impact attendance more than anything. I've stated many times I'm in favour of the Jays going after Ohtani and how it would be fantastic for the city and country overall. Also, I'm a realist and understand that signing him to a huge contract does come with some risk later on, especially if he just sticks as a DH/corner OF. That's with any big FA deal FFS!

What the F are you bickering about now? I responded to Jim's post about the comment he made on how every game would be filled to the rafters. I said if the Blue Jays are winning and if Ohtani stays healthy, for sure they likely sell out every game. What is wrong with that comment? If the Jays start to become a losing team and/or if Ohtani is hurt, every game won't be "filled to the rafters." Heck did the Angels sell out every game with both Ohtani and Trout? Did the Rangers sell out every game when they signed A-Rod to the biggest FA contract at the time? Even when the Jays had Rogers Clemens pitch, the SkyDome wasn't "filled to the rafters." At the end of the day, team success will impact attendance the most. If the Jays remain competitive and win between 90-100 games per season, shouldn't be a problem. If they become a 75-80 win team down the road, and Ohtani spends some time on the IL when he gets older, every game won't be "filled to the rafters." Don't understand why you're asking me what side of the rubber fence I fall on. You're an idiot.

I guess you and Laika still have nightmares of his Marlins deal in 2013. What other trades did he make with Atlanta that fit the bill of running assets into the ground? Since he does it "spectacularly and at volume" can't wait to see a huge list!

He does but not going to mention why. All I said is that a lot of teams go through roster crunches and mismanage assets by either holding onto them for too long and not trading them at the opportune time. The Braves aren't the only team. Tell me how I should take the L on that one?

Yeah Rogers will make a lot of money off him, but we don't know the exact numbers and how much. We're not on the board of directors for Rogers who are crunching the numbers as we speak. Like I said I'm all for signing for Ohtani. Will definitely enjoy it and pop open an expensive bottle of Japanese whiskey if he signs here! If the contract is 10 + years at 50-60M AAV, it will be concerning considering he will be 30 next season and could only be possibly a DH/corner OF. If Ohtani does sign here, you have to go all in over these next two seasons when you have Bichette under club control, Ohtani still in his prime and Gausman in top form. You want to take advantage of the early years in Ohtani's contract. And like Glory said in his post, moving forward the Jays will need to step their player development game up so they have a pipeline of arms and players coming up at the end of this decade.

How about Nate Pearson who pretty much is worth nothing now? Should have traded him 3-4 years ago when he was a top prospect! If he's non tendered or traded for pennies this offseason, oh my! What about Vladdy if he turns out another 1 WAR season in 2024? Or Kirk if he doesn't bounce back? I hope Laika is as vocal and critiques this FO the same if they ride these assets to the point where they are worth nothing.

GM Chris Getz knew something the other 29 teams didn't. He's a genius for acquiring a 6 WAR infielder with 6 career home runs in close to 2000 PA's! Atlanta's phone should have been ringing off the hook!

Laika stated the Braves rode 3-4 assets into the ground before trading them when their value was higher. I countered and asked are they the only team who that applies to? If the Blue Jays decide to keep Manoah for 2024 in hopes he bounces back, but doesn't, isn't that mismanagement as well? How is that any different than the Soroka situation? Manoah's value isn't that high right now to begin with, so I understand if the Jays FO wants to take the chance on Manoah bouncing back and rebuilding his value. Would rather hold onto Manoah for another year than trade him for a way inferior player or package. No different than what the Braves did with Soroka. Every team sometimes rides an asset or assets to where they're worth nothing. It happens. It's not just an Atlanta thing.

Some posters on here still value Manoah quite highly. As well, do you know where the Jays stand with Manoah? Do they think he could bounce back in 2024? How about Vladdy as well? If he has another 1 WAR season in 2024, will Laika criticize Atkins for riding his biggest asset at one point into the ground where he is worth nothing?

I guess the Braves are the only organization who ride assets to the point where they are worth nothing? If Manoah doesn't rebound in 2024, can we say the same thing about Atkins if he non-tenders or trades away Manoah for pennies in 2025? Jays could trade Manoah now, but then you'll have people saying don't trade him when his value is this low. How is that any different with Soroka? How about Nate Pearson? Julian Merryweather?

I mean none of us really know anything when it comes to any MLB trade and which players do and don't get a deal done, unless we're in the conference room when the talks are happening. Just was commenting and discussing the trade on a baseball forum like we all do. I doubt Nicky Lopez produces a 6 WAR season again given his age and skillset. Too bad Atkins never traded for him.

How do you know that? Soroka's value was probably unchanged from last year to this year. Maybe the Braves wanted to hang onto Soroka for one more season to see if he could make a full recovery rather than just give up on him a year earlier. He got some starts in 2023, didn't work and got injured again. So time to move on. Shuster and Shewmake would have had to take up spots on the 40-man roster and likely weren't going to contribute anyways. Their values took a huge hit in comparison to when they were drafted.

So what's the point you're trying to make? Braves still need a backup IF so yeah it wouldn't have been a bad idea to keep Lopez around in that role. Which is what I said. Offensively he's awful and offers literally no power. He isn't posting a 6 WAR season again even if he's a starting somewhere. In 2022, with 480 PA, he still only produced 1.2 WAR. He's wasn't going to start with the Braves unless an injury opened up some regular playing time for him.
