  1. Where did I compare Atkins to AA? I just said Atkins offered those players the most money and years which is why they came here. It's nothing groundbreaking. Ryu really didn't pan out as hoped and Springer looks like he's heading in the wrong direction with 3 years and $75M left on his contract. Gausman has been fantastic his first two seasons here and hope he continues to pitch at that high level! J.P. Ricciardi was able to land big name FA's like BJ Ryan and AJ Burnett in 2006, because the Jays at the time offered the most years and money. He was able to sign Frank Thomas because he offered the most money and years as well.
  2. The Jays waved the most money and years at those guys so yeah no wonder why they came here lol. Don't make it sound like Atkins was the only GM who could sign those guys.
  3. The Blue Jays were a borderline Playoff team because they struggled offensively over the 162 game season which carried over into their WC matchup against the Twins.

Could even be better than the actual Super Bowl haha.

I still rank the Eagles over the 49ers but we'll see.
  6. They also rushed to sign Kendrys Morales after the 2016 season for some odd reason to a 3-year-deal. Tanner Roark signing was awful. The Grichuk extension was odd. Ryu was solid in the 2020 shortened season and was meh in 2021. Combined for 4.9 fWAR in his 4 seasons here so spending $20M per season on him was a lot. Springer looked good in his first couple of years here, but the latter part of his deal looks worrisome. Gausman signing has been fantastic to date. But again, huge FA deal. Atkins has done a good job at signing guys to one-year deals like Semien, Belt, and KK.

Looks like San Fran owning the Seahawks early.

Figured there was going to be one upset today. I'm hoping the Seahawks can upset the 49ers.
  9. I bet Sonny goes to Atlanta.
  10. 20-team dynasty league, would you trade 2B Davis 'Babe' Schneider for SP Gavin Williams from CLE?
  11. How much do you think Jason Heyward will get? Think he would be a great fit here as a bat to platoon in LF/DH and someone who could backup Varsho in CF. Posted 2.2 WAR last season and hit 15 HR's with a .269/.340/.473 slash line and 121 wRC+ in 377 PA.
  12. I prefer Teo over Pham for sure, but I could see Teo possibly getting 2 or 3 years from someone, we'll see. I could see guys like Brantley, Gallo, Grichuk, Rosario, Profar, and Winker signing a 1-year pillow deal.
  13. It's kind of sad that you can't even make comments about other FA signings or trades in the offseason threads, without one of Max or Brownie trying to pick an argument to one-up you. To be honest, they're the ones who remain insufferable and the reasons why this message board doesn't get any new posters and why some posters have stopped posting on here frequently. Not a good look having condescending posters on here thinking they own the place and superior to everyone else.
  14. Mr. Condescending is back and cherry picking as he does best! Yeah I will admit and own up to saying back in June/July that the Orioles signing of Gibson for one-year looked better than signing Bassitt for three years at the time. Gibson got off to a better start over the first couple of months and then came crashing down. Bassitt kept getting stronger as the season went on. So yeah my perception and opinion has changed since then. So what is the problem? Am I the only one who flip-flops on here when it comes to players or trades? Just from looking at Fangraphs, both Bassitt and Gibson finished with 2.6 WAR. Right now, I still prefer Bassitt but we still have two more years with him. Orioles now have washed their hands clean of Gibson. All I stated is that the Cards could have aimed higher earlier in the offseason and that these signings weren't really that exciting, the same as every other poster said. Though you decide to dig up something I said back in June in order to create a new argument and to make yourself sound superior. You're really a sad person dude. Need to just relax. It's a baseball forum. Stop trying to pick arguments with everyone on here just for the sake of it.
  15. Love how my post gets a paragraph response from you, but none of the others did earlier. Obviously, it's still early in the offseason yes, but given the amount of SPs available, shocked the Cards couldn't have aimed a bit higher especially this early in the offseason. But yeah having Lynn and Gibson as your No. 4/5 guys in the rotation on one-year deals isn't a terrible thing. They both have limited upside or hardly at all given their ages, but they both can be durable and give the Cards 1.5 - 2 WAR or so each possibly. There is still time left in the offseason for the Cards to add a front of the rotation starter. If they only add Lynn and Gibson this offseason, would be disappointing. Still shocked to see them sign BOTH in the same day however. As for DeJong, a bottom seeded team like the White Sox or Athletics or Rockies are always the perfect fits for players like him. They need cheap fillers and DeJong if he gets hot does have some power, so they get a warm body and a possible trade candidate at the deadline if he's having success over the first 3-4 months of the season.
  16. They won't be selling a lot of Kyle Gibson or Lance Lynn jerseys that's for sure.
  17. If you told me Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson were some of the first arms off the board, I would say you're crazy. Cardinals could have targeted better arms. Looks like Paul DeJong landed himself a starting shortstop gig with the White Sox. Yikes!

Yeah I love Matthews, Marner and Nylander. Heck even the Leafs in the early 2000s with Sundin never had that type of young core. It would be a shame if the Leafs can't win a Cup with those three guys employed at the same time.

The big question can the Leafs win a Stanley Cup with a core of Matthews, Marner and Nylander? Still hasn't happened and doubt it happens this season.
  20. Yeah Martin will have a difficult path, but even Martin has a higher career WAR than Mauer and played behind the plate over his entire career and didn't have to move off to another position. But yeah Mauer had some more outstanding and eye popping seasons offensively where he was one of the best in the game with the stick.
  21. Hall of Fame ballot was unveiled yesterday. Adrian Beltre leads the list. He should get in on the first ballot no questions asked! Will be interesting to see what happens with Joe Mauer down the road. If he makes his way into the HOF in a couple of years, should be a good sign for Russell Martin. Would be nice to see Beltran and Wagner get in this year or next. They're both close. Bautista eligible now for the first time. Can't believe he's been out of baseball for 5 years already.
  22. Yeah I really don't bother any more with some of these guys. It's not worth it. They've made this message board insufferable at times and are the reason why we aren't getting new posters and why some posters have stopped posting as much as they have. It's good to have discussion and debate respectfully, but guys like Max love to just argue and act snobbish for the sake of it.
  23. It's a baseball forum FFS. I'm actually mentioning names and trade ideas to try and spark offseason discussion. You should go back and read a lot of my other posts to see that those names weren't the only names I have mentioned. But sure I recently comment on Joey Votto, or Josh Donaldson, or a non-tender candidate like Austin Meadows and suddenly those are my top targets for the offseason lol.
  24. Lmao at your time zone response. If you've actually read through a lot of my other posts, I've been pretty active in discussions regarding offseason moves and have advocated for the Jays to target solid players like Juan Soto, Rhys Hoskins, Jorge Soler, Teo Hernandez, Paul Goldschmidt (if the Cards were selling), Pete Alonso, and I could go on. Heck, I'm even on the Ohtani train if Atkins could make it happen! But sure, I recently suggest some names to go after if they come cheap and who wouldn't be bad as last resorts, though I guess that outlines my top offseason targets in your eyes. Where did I say or suggest Atkins could afford to take all those gambles as well? Obviously the Jays aren't the Oakland A's, but I'm sure the Jays take a gamble on a bounce back candidate somewhere if they can't get their top targets. Again, you're trying to twist my words around in order to pick an argument for no reason to make yourself sound superior. All at 2AM on a weekend as well haha.
