I was watching some of the early part of the game last night. What are your thoughts on their Motor City Connect Jerseys?

Mariners rotation is probably the best in baseball. Definitely a waste. J-Rod has been awful this year, what's up with him? I liked the Arozarena addition at the deadline, but they could have done more maybe by adding another big bat. Turner wasn't going to change things or make a difference. As well, the AL West this year was wide open. Astros struggled heavily early on, Rangers have a World Series hangover, while the Angels and A's suck. Can't believe they couldn't take advantage of that.

Yes and I said that lol. Detroit has a better set of young players and prospects locked up over the next 5 years. Blue Jays are an aging and expensive team. Not too difficult to comprehend. In terms of ownership spending, edge to the Blue Jays for sure, which I stated. A lot depends on what the Blue Jays do this offseason. If they re-sign Vladdy, definitely a better outlook over the next five years. If they let Vladdy walk and fail to sign anyone of his caliber, the next five years here look bleak given the weak farm system. In terms of long term sustainability, will be tough to spend their way building a perennial contender. Even if they re-sign Vladdy, this team needs a No 1/2 starter (which will cost over $100M easily if they try to sign Burner or Snell), another two bats (will cost money), and bullpen help. That doesn't even include a 3B as I'm assuming if they spend money on the above, it's more efficient to run with Clement at 3B to spend elsewhere. A lot of holes to patch up for 2025 if they want to return to being a contending team.

Yup, a lot depends on what guys like Max Clark and Jackson Jobe become. They need some of their top prospects to come up and make an impact over the next year or so, in order to add to their current MLB core of Greene, Skubal, Olson and Carpenter. If they don't pan out and flop, they're going to be stuck in limbo as a .500 team. As well, will be interesting to see what direction they take with Skubal: do they re-sign him to an extension, trade him or let him walk as a FA?

Just having constructive discussion on another MLB organization. There is nothing wrong in stating that the Tigers over the next 5 years have a better young core in place than the Blue Jays which is obviously true lol. Like I asked Laika, can you name me an elite player similar to Riley Greene who is under club control until 2029 on the Blue Jays? Also, I acknowledged that the Jays ownership over the next 5 years has the edge because they are willing to spend money on FA's and adding to the payroll if need be.

Geez, it's not worth discussing other teams when comparing them to the Blue Jays on here. Just stating the obvious facts that Detroit has better younger core in place moving forward over the next 5 years than Toronto, while also acknowledging that Toronto though has the advantage of ownership willing to spend money on FAs or extensions. Some posters on here still take the blue pill maintaining their blissful ignorance when it comes to this organization and front office. I can't believe names like Horwitz and Clement are being used in the same discussion with some of the Tigers top prospects. They're solid players, but it's not even close lol.

It's not even close. Both Clark and Jobe are top 10 prospects in the entire game. Sure they might bust and never pan out, that's a possibility. If Clark and Jobe were on the Jays, definitely would be a different tone haha. But since they're on the Tigers, they're just "prospects."

I don't see them having a player like Riley Greene or an arm like Olson under club control until 2029. I said that the Jays from an ownership perspective are better since they can sign big name FA's and afford to re-sign someone like Vladdy. At the end of the day, in terms of farm system, young players and core, will give the edge to Detroit. In terms of ownership and spending, huge edge to the Jays!

You literally never read my post but alright. For upside, Parker Meadows and Colt Keith have more than the Jays younger group. Meadows can be identical to Greene. But yeah until they prove themselves, they might end up being trash or just average. I mentioned Skubal is only under control until 2027 and a lot depends if the Tigers can re-sign him or if they trade him. Can't you read? Riley Greene is really good and under control until 2029. Which player on his level on the Jays is under control until 2029 right now? Unless the Jays spend $250-300M to re-sign Vlad. Carpenter would be one of the best power hitters on the Jays right after Vladdy lol. Jobe at least is a top 10 prospect who is close to MLB ready. This is funny that you can't comprehend anything.

Yeah I agree as well. The Jays core and rotation that is locked up for the next couple of seasons is mostly on the wrong side of 30 and expensive. It's going to cost a lot to re-sign Vlad if they do, and Bo likely walks as a FA after 2025. Jays have to even spend more money this offseason on FA's in order to improve the club to make themselves a wildcard contender. As well, the Jays rotation is an expensive and aging one. The young players like Horwitz or young arms like YRod/Francis on the Jays are decent, but they're not on the same level as the core guys or prospects in Detroit. Detroit will never be as bad as Oakland or Tampa when it comes to spending. They've spent in the past on big players and arms via free agency or trades. If Toronto re-signs Vladdy and also could sign Soto, that definitely changes their outlook moving forward but we're talking about spending close to $700M on just two players haha.

Based on the current young core, the main guys in Detroit are under club control until 2029. Toronto doesn't even a young core that matches Detroit over the next couple of seasons. Position players who are under control: Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter, Colt Keith, Parker Meadows. Better and younger than the Jays position player core. If the Tigers do a solid job adding around them via trades/free agency or if some of their prospects like Max Clark, Kevin McGonigle, Bryce Rainer or Jace Jung make an impact at the big level, they definitely have a positive outlook in the next 5 years. As for pitching, Tigers have a younger rotation led by Skubal (though he's a FA in 2027), Reese Olson (FA in 2030), and Casey Maze (FA in 2027). Top prospect Jackson Jobe also knocking on the door as well. As for depth arms or back-end of the rotation guys, they have Matt Manning, Alex Faedo, and Keider Montero. One of them might stick as a No 4/5 starter. Short term over the next two seasons, their rotation looks solid if healthy. Just need to add a veteran FA on a short term deal, kind of like what they did with Flaherty. The big question is can Detroit re-sign Skubal? I believe there were even trade deadline rumours involving him, so maybe he is dangled sometime before 2027. If they can't re-sign him past 2027, they have just a two-year window with him around, so gotta hope some of their positional players can take the next level. As for Toronto, they have more FA spending room and would be able to lock up their younger stars or top FA's. We'll see what happens with Vladdy, but if Vladdy was in Detroit he likely is traded or becomes a FA. Look at Skubal in Detroit and he likely gets traded before 2027 or walks via free agency. The issue is Toronto currently doesn't have a young solid core or rotation in comparison to Detroit right now. So by time it takes to draft & develop, the Blue Jays are a couple of years behind the Tigers on that front. If the Jays had the Tigers young core, they definitely would have the financial ability to lock up some of the core guys and build around them. Whereas Detroit really needs to take advantage within their 5-year window, or the next two-years with Skubal under control before he becomes a FA.

Yeah its quite remarkable how he has held up and pitching at this elite level at the age of 35. If he stays healthy and continues to pitch at a high level for a couple of more seasons, he likely seals himself a ticket to Cooperstown.

Don't mean to sound argumentative haha if it came across the way. But yeah for the most part, I think we both agree and are on the same page that they would have to spend a lot and have a busy offseason in order to get back into contention. I think if they make some big moves, along with a Bo rebound, Springer playing like he has over the last 2 months and Vlad playing at an elite level like he has, under the current WC format, this team could contend over the 162 game season. - Definitely gotta sign a No. 1/2 starter which is a must. - Need to sign two big bats with pop for LF and DH. If not Soto, there are plenty of options like Santander, O"Neill, Pederson, Teo, Conforto, Kepler, Goldschmidt, Christian Walker. - Need to add at least two solid bullpen arms with high K/9 rates. - 3B: either roll with Clement or make a trade for someone like McMahon or Baty. I don't think there would be enough in the payroll to sign either Chapman or Bregman.

I also agree that with an active offseason and a couple of swift moves, the Jays could field a contending team in 2025.

The way Snell has pitched lately, he likely gets a 4-5 year deal north of $100M. Would rather spend the extra money to sign Burnes, or bring back Kikuchi on less years. Also, would try to sign Bieber to a 2-year deal with a high AAV, even if he misses the first two-three months of 2025. Tyler O'Neill should have been targeted last offseason. Regardless, I don't see him getting a 4-year deal given what we saw the market was like for corner OF's and DH's last offseason. Maybe a two-year deal or at most he gets something similar to Jorge Soler. O'Neill or Pederson would be great targets for LF/DH. Kenley Jansen likely doesn't sign here, neither does Scherzer if he decides to pitch again next season. Try and make a trade with the Oakland A's for either Brent Rooker or Mason Miller or both.

Need to sign someone like Burnes or maybe Bieber (likely will miss the first month or so). Not opposed to bringing Kikuchi back as well. Would rather sign Kikuchi than Fried or Snell.
