IKF all of a sudden had a breakout this season. He's never produced at this level prior to 2024. I think posters were more mad at IKF starting at third base because the FO did very little to improve the lineup this offseason and instead focused on more defensive minded players, which was saw backfire huge. IKF turned out to be a very solid signing (see I give Atkins credit when it's warranted). McMahon at $11.67M over the next three years is actually very reasonable and he can opt out after 2025 or 2026. If he has a big season, he likely will opt out and could get more money. What has this lineup struggled with this season? Home runs! Like you don't get it and ignorance is on some other level. They need some pop and if McMahon offers 20-25 HR's along with strong defense, that helps a lot lol. You can't build a one-dimensional lineup/roster that is only defensive oriented.

Has IKF ever hit 24 HR's in a season or has he ever had multiple seasons of 2.5 WAR or better? Just asking. IKF is at $7.5M whereas McMahon is at $11.67M (with a conditional opt-out after 2025 and 2026).

Dylan Carlson in his first 8 games with Rays hasn't been that bad. Still very early, but I could see Carlson being a decent OF option for them.

Nothing wrong with Ryan McMahon at third base if you want a left-handed bat who is solid defensively and has experience. He's going to give you a WAR between 2.5 and 3 most likely with 20-25 HR's. Nothing special offensively, but still a solid option nonetheless. The Rockies likely don't trade him anyways, since logic doesn't exist with that organization. Baty is younger and has more upside given his age, but has very little experience and has looked overmatched at the big league level. If the Jays plan on not contending in 2025, he's a fine target in hoping a change of scenery helps rejuvenate his bat. If the Jays plan on contending, Baty can still be a decent option if the Jays decide to spend most of their payroll elsewhere like resigning Vlad to an extension, finding a bat for LF and DH and a top of the rotation arm. Having him platoon with Clement wouldn't be a bad thing, if the Jays need to allot money elsewhere on the roster. As for Jake Burger, defensively he's awful but if you brought him in mainly as a DH who occasionally could play some 3B alongside with Clement, not the end of the world. Not my first, second or third choice, but he does offer some raw power, which is what this lineup has really lacked this season. Since July 1st, Burger has posted a 191 wRC+ which is tied for 8th best in all of baseball and leads all of baseball with 15 HR's since! Jays could definitely use a bat like that.

I said it looks like he's going to be a bust. I acknowledged that he's still young enough where he's worth rolling the dice on if the acquisition cost is reasonable. If the Jays decide to spend big money in the rotation and other areas in the lineup such as LF and DH, I have no issue with the Jays acquiring Baty and having him battle or platoon with Clement at 3B.

If the acquisition price isn't expensive, rolling the dice on Baty and having him battle for the 3B job during ST with Clement isn't that bad of an idea, if the Jays decide they need to allot money elsewhere on the roster such as resigning Vladdy, OF and the rotation. Looks like he's going to be a bust, but he's still young enough where you might be able to catch some lightning in a bottle. Just wouldn't solely rely on him at 3B heading into 2025 if the Jays are planning to contend.

Baty has looked pretty overmatched at the big league level and I don't think he would be a "great target" given the team planning to contend in 2025. 68 wRC+ in 2023 over 389 PA and a career 72 wRC+ thus far. Sorry to "s*** on your suggestions," but I will. Sound familiar?

The renovations definitely play a role. A lot of young people in Toronto and casuals think the outfield patios are a cool area to chill and hang out. As for events in Toronto, next weekend the CNE starts and there is also the Kings Plate at Woodbine. Otherwise in terms of sports, not much other than the odd Argos game or TFC game. Leafs don't start until October and NFL starts second weekend of September.

A lot of flex packs or season tickets were sold last winter when there was all the hype surrounding the Jays signing Ohtani. I even know a co-worker who bought season tickets last October/November because of the Ohtani rumours. As well, it was a beautiful weekend here in Toronto. Not too humid at all, so really perfect conditions to go watch an afternoon game where you won't be sweating or boiling because of the heat. Even for casual fans, seeing a Jays game on a Sunday afternoon, chilling at one of the outfield patios, and drinking $20 beers, is something to do and an afternoon out, regardless of how the team is performing. Haven't checked StubHub recently for Jays tickets, but wondering if they might be a lot cheaper than the box office, since perhaps some flex pack or season ticket holders wanting to unload their tickets for some games.

Yeah geez don't remind me. Was at Game 2 and still can't believe the Jays ended up losing the way they did. Should have been a Game 3 in that Wildcard series.

Was watching the game last night cuz Skenes was pitching. Yeah LA is a nice fit for KK. Hope he can make a positive impact for them down the stretch and in October! Fits in really nicely as a 4th outfielder there, which what his roll should have been with the Blue Jays this season.

Which top of the rotation arms would you target during free agency? Shane Bieber would be interesting if he signed a short term contract to build back up some value. Is he expected to miss the early part of 2025? Couldn't find anything. Burnes is the best arm available and is someone who would slot into the No. 1 spot of the rotation. Not crazy about giving Blake Snell or Max Fried a 4-5 year deal. Would rather bring Kikuchi back. Not sure about Flaherty if his season is for real, but maybe the Jays see him similar to what Gausman was when the signed him after the 2021 season. What's the trade market like for top of the rotation arms?

Might even be the odd guy who is a non-tender candidate (e.g. Swanson or Romano if the Jays feel they're broken and can't make a full return to their previous levels). Though yeah good point, if they lock up both Soto and Vladdy, they most likely have to be a tax team for 2025 given the other areas that need to be addressed on the roster. Once some salaries come off the books afterwards, they should be okay moving forward.

Looking forward to see Horwitz over a full season next year. Really think he can be a solid contributor. Would be awesome if he turned into the Jays version of Jeff McNeil.

Would they be able to fit both into the payroll next season and seasons afterwards without going over the luxury tax? Or if they did sign both to long term deals, would they even care about going over the luxury tax during the first couple of seasons with them both in their prime years?

Yeah not my first or second choice that's for sure. If the Jays can't sign Chapman or Bregman, and/or failed to add huge thump to other areas in the lineup, he's not a bad target for some cheap power. Doubt the Marlins ask a lot in return anyways. Keep Clement obviously around as well for defensive purposes, and I'm sure they could manage the workloads between both at the hot corner, with Burger getting his AB's between 3B & DH. Again depends on how the offseason plays out.

I know I got attacked last week for listing Jake Burger as a possible 3B trade candidate this upcoming offseason, though Mr. Burger since July 1st has been on a tear with the bat. Since July 1st: .292 BA, 13 HR's, 23 RBI with 165 wRC+ in July and 193 wRC+ in August. 198 wRC+ in the second half thus far. Gotta put up with the streakiness with his bat and poor glove, though as long he produces around 2 WAR with 30 + HR's hitting in the bottom of the order, he's not a bad option given the lack of HR power in this lineup. Probably can be rotated between DH and 3B.

If they can lock up Vladdy and if they can land Soto, what a dynamic duo that would be for the next decade. If they were willing to go all-in on Ohtani last offseason, you gotta think they would definitely entertain the idea of locking up both Vladdy & Soto, which total would likely be cheaper than the 10 year/$700M Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.

Doval for the Giants has been garbage as well. He was just sent down to the minors.
