    NHL Thread

Suspended 5 days from the BJMB.
  2. LOL give it up man. Where are your pals Brownie, Spanky and EatMyShatkins? They've left you out to dry in this thread lol. Nobody on here said Atkins was the worst GM in baseball. A lot of rational posters acknowledge he has done a lot of a great things, but overall the end results are what matter. This team under him hasn't gone to the next level and as an organization have disappointed with drafting and player development and we're probably at a point now where a new voice/vision is needed to help retool this team moving forward. Enough praising Atkins as some sort of Godly GM. He's been good, but not good enough unfortunately.
  3. The Jays bullpen right now isn't an elite or shutdown BP as it was last season. Going to be tough to win games of 3-2 or 2-1 with the way the bullpen has been going. Romano hasn't looked 100% this season. Swanson same. Green is on the IL (not surprised). The bullpen overall has been one of the worst in baseball in 2024. Very impressed with Yimi Garcia. Has been rock solid this season. Not sure if he could keep up that level all season but let's hope. Hopefully when Rodríguez comes back he's used in the BP and he turns out to be an electric late inning arm for the Jays.
  4. Wonder if something could be done with Vlad or Bo for Jazz? Jazz has an extra year of control I believe and would be a FA for 2027.
  5. Erick Fedde has a 2.60 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 50:14 K:BB through 52 innings with a 3.88 FIP and 0.9 fWAR. White Sox got themselves a nice trade chip if he keeps this up.
  6. He has been really terrible this season, but what about Jake Burger as a possible trade target from the Marlins? Last season he hit 34 HR's with a .250/.309/.518, 120 wRC+ and a 2.3 fWAR. Granted he's been downright terrible this season. The raw power is there, which is what this lineup needs, just gotta hope he could bounce back to being a 2-3 WAR player.
  7. Bieber could have been on that track I think but we'll see if he could stay healthy when he returns. Needs to pitch at an elite level for 6 to 7 years. Others could be Cease, Burnes, and Gallen like Laika mentioned. Maybe Luis Castillo. I would also throw Gausman into the mix. He's a bit older than those names, but has 31.3 career fWAR thus far. If he continues to have a couple more elite 5 WAR seasons, he gets above 50 career WAR. He needs to still pitch well and elite into his late 30's though.
  8. Yeah sorry. Thanks for the correction!
  9. He's been money for the Braves this season. Loved that trade and he's healthy now. Nice gamble by the Braves. 5-1, 10.97 K/9, 1.69 BB/9, 2.95 ERA, 2.62 FIP, 1.2 fWAR and 52 K's in 42.2 innings over 7 starts. Looking great tonight against the Cubs as well.
  10. May 12 Vladdy - 2 Points - Dylan Varsho - 2 Points Bichette - 3 Points - Jonn Schneider- 3 Points - JaysBlue Springer - 4 Points- Omar Vogelbach - 4 Points - mphenhef, Abomination Kirk - 6 Points Kiner-Falefa - 7 Points Clement - 8 Points - wilko The Bench (Any PH): 10 Points - Spanky
  11. Davis Schneider looks exactly like Spencer Strider.
  12. He's not an elite lights-out BP arm agreed. He had one great season in 2022 and wasn't even used that often in high leverage situations. Not knocking Swanson again. He's still a solid arm to have in the pen as an option for the 7th/8th innings. Shouldn't have to trade assets for those types of BP arms in the offseason lol. Should be able to develop those arms or sign an arm who could provide similar value in the offseason.
  13. A typical Spanky response. No substance at all.
  14. I agree with everything you said in this post. Like you said, there is always someone available who can hit and stand in LF, but why haven't Atkins and the Jays FO brought in that bat dating back from last season, when offense and power have been a major issue with this lineup and still is?
  15. "Brain worms"? This coming from the biggest flip flopper on the board lol. Never said it was a bad deal and nothing against Swanson at all. Just wasn't crazy about it at the time. Macko is still a lottery ticket. Hope he could be a valuable arm, but not a guarantee. Like BigCecil said, maybe if Teo stuck around he could have been extended to a short 2 year deal or something. As well, Jays could have used Teo's bat in 2023 and this season. But yeah a lot of what if's and noise which not going to get into. Will also add, yes drafting and development has been a major issue with this front office. Should be able to produce arms like Swanson every so often and shouldn't have to trade assets for them in the offseason.
  16. Swanson: 14.04 ERA, 9.02 FIP, 6.48 K/9 and -0.4 fWAR in 8.1 innings thus far. I know I'll get heat for saying this, but that trade last offseason wasn't a "steal" as it was made out to be by some of the Atkins cult on here. No knocks against Swanson. He was really solid last season. But I couldn't care about controllability for a 30-year-old reliever. We know relievers are volatile and so far in year 2 of 3, looks like it could be a lost season for Swanson. He's not 100% or something. Considering the Jays needed offensive help badly last season, that trade really didn't make a lot of sense IMO. You should be able to find relievers like Swanson easily or develop them - you shouldn't have to trade an everyday 2 WAR player or better for them. It wasn't a bad trade and I even said at the time. I understand the reasonings for it, but just wasn't crazy about it for the Jays.
  17. Carlos Santana would be leading the Jays in HR and RBI lol. That's sad.
  18. Bailey Ober is a good pitcher.
  19. lmao Nah its more about some of the insufferable posters on here who are arrogant and attack you for any constructive criticism of Atkins and this FO. I want the Blue Jays to win a World Series. The Jays were super close in 2015 and 2016. Miss those days for sure!
  20. Not getting out pitchforks haha. I'm very impressed with Varsho still and even as his bat regresses, he's still a very valuable player who can put up a 3-4 WAR. No problem with that at all. My post was more of jab at you guys part of the Atkins cult. You get so excited about a players performance after two weeks in like IKF or Turner but when someone criticizes a player after a month + into the season, "it's too early." But yeah the "it's too early" doesn't apply to you when you rave about IKF or Turner after two weeks into the season lol.
  21. He'll end up pitching in the KBO or NPB for two seasons and then sign back with a MLB club after posting a sub-3 ERA.
  22. Gausman pitches this afternoon!
  23. Yup for the Atkins cult it's never too early when Varsho is raking over the first two weeks. But it's too early when players or the team as a whole are struggling over an entire month+.
  24. Only 5 pages for this GDT. Wow. Was walking through Union late yesterday afternoon and saw a huge crowd of Jays fans heading to the game. Felt sorry for them all.
