  1. Just a thought-- not saying its the best idea in the world but wondering if we might see this... - EE at 3b (with his surprising defense in limited innings there this year) - Davis/ Gose platoon in LF - Melky at DH - Lawrie to 2b when he returns, if EE is playing well in the field
  2. And yes, they could use a starter. Even Chad Jenkins would be an upgrade for them right now but that wouldn't be a fit for Toronto. If AA actually decided that he wanted de Jesus, it would be to start at 2b. He'd want to move Bonifacio or Izturis and get a return. Perhaps Ivan Jr + prospect for Bonifacio + Jenkins/Rogers, depending on the kid.
  3. He is not on their 40-man roster.
  4. Izturis might also be of interest. Mercer is expected to be all they have with any MLB experience at short going into next year.
  5. I did originally mean if but he could clear. I really think that AA holds onto him tbh. As for trades-- here is a thought. Ivan de Jesus Jr. has really found the bat he was expected to have. Problem is that while he is crushing the ball for Indy, the Pirates are very convinced that he is a 2b/3b only and is not a MLB shortstop. He has no future in Pittsburgh at either position but he is generally considered to be a MLB ready power hitting 2b. The Pirates and Bonifacio aren't a bad fit and another bullpen arm wouldn't kill them either. Just a thought.
  6. A fair number of his hits being singles 10 feet over the heads of infielders helps too.
  7. I think that you'd be amazed at some of the players who clear waivers every year.
  8. June 24th. If he is really comfy quickly and all is well he could return on the 21st.
  9. I just actually read this entire thread. Guys, gotta say-- AA and the brass really think they've got lots of season to go and will probably still try to win now! Davis is leaving as a free agent and Gose should be able to step into his role this year. There's a trade chip that doesn't take away from the club this year. There's also a surplus of decent bullpen arms and you don't need to move Janssen to get value. Bonifacio is a bum IMO but Atlanta still like him, as do the Phillies. God knows why? Arencibia? If there are takers-- absolutely! Thole can play. I don't even think that they move JJ, at least not before the non waiver deadline. He'll get a qualifying offer for the pick or be dealt late, late after clearing waivers.
  10. Gose isn't going to spend his first full season in the Majors as a starter. He's going to take over the Rajai Davis role in 2014 after Davis becomes a free agent.
  11. Hill may have never turned it around here. In fact, it took him a while to get going on the road for Arizona. He racked up hits in the desert air where breaking balls flatten and the ball flies off the bat, much like in Vegas. Then came the confidence and the comfort zone...
  12. Yes, he qualifies. Personally I don't think that he should but he does. I've never really liked the way this award has been handed out. I think that it should be reserved only for players who spent time on the 60-day DL the year before or for players who came out of retirement/ missed the entire previous year not on a roster. Perhaps throw in special cases like Rick Ankiel who made it back to the Majors as a position player but that's it. I've said it before when I've seen the award given out-- what did he comeback from? Playing well after stinking the year before isn't a comeback, it's an improvement.
  13. He qualifies just as much as Aaron Hill did.
  14. Maybe I know that you know but they don't know that you know and I know that you know, you know? Hmmmm, that was funnier in my head I think...
  15. I still think that Rasmus has one of the best left handed line drive swings I've ever seen, though I hate how early he commits. I still want Arencibia gone!
  16. Nope and nope. I stated several times that Lind was not a mirage during Spring Training and even said that his new trigger would allow him to better hit lefties. I also pointed to Cecil bringing back his 4-seam fastball as a reliever and liked his chances now that he was back to what made him such a huge success in college.
  17. You have leverage when drafted as a junior. You have none as a senior!
  18. It is sustainable btw. When one is talking about 15 - 16 weeks, sure. It's not likely but crazier things have happened.
  19. In April his BABIP was quite low and he was a hard luck victim with a low BA. His BABIP has been well over .400 since.
  20. I picked them to win 92. I still see them at 56 wins at the end of July. I think that would leave them 55 games. A 33 and 22 finish would get you your 90 that you predicted. If I'm correct about 56 before August 1st that is.
  21. And only played 4 games over .500 over the next 40 games. 59-59 was the last time they sat as low as just .500.
  22. The stance was actually changed at ST 2012 but he still had the old trigger and earlier starting swing.
  23. Probably Baltimore? I'll just say it AGAIN-- I don't care if Boston is playing .600 baseball, they are way over their heads and they will tank out of first, past second and into third or fourth. Take away the 6-2 v Tampa, who they've owned and the 4 free wins against Houston, who were beyond bad at the time and that percentage comes a little closer to Earth. Yes I see the runs scored/ runs allowed. Mind boggling and it won't sustain. Boston is not the team to catch for the division. Baltimore is. The wild card? The #2 team in the west, the Yankees, maybe the Tribe or Royals. I don't even see Boston as a playoff team.
  24. You wouldn't have to. If Texas were willing to deal Profar to win now, they wouldn't be shy about adding Alfaro or Perez to get their man.
  25. When they go on the road for game 11 of the second half, it just doesn't seem that improbable for the club to be 3rd and only 4-5 games out of first.
