  1. Pretty sure he's going to be second-guessed if the Jays do anything other than win the World Series. I think his worst decision so far was to sit Price for 10 days prior to his start. I thought it was common knowledge that SP's do worse when they break out of their standard rhythm.
  2. They could put Dickey in, and then use Price Game 4 (if necessary) and Stroman Game 5 (if necessary)
  3. If we survive Game three, who should start Game 4? Price of Dickey. So far Dickey is slotted to pitch, but Gibbons says he is considering going with Price. There are pros and cons of each. Who do you think should start Game 4?
  4. Jays are in full panic mode. That's the pressure of being the favorite going into the post-season, with a bunch of guys who have never been there before.
  5. Colabello was like: "I don't trust any of these assclowns to catch the ball. I'm going to run all the way from 1st base to third and make the f***ing play myself."
  6. Not leaving work early, but work has set up giant screen TV's upstairs, and is supplying food and beer. Probably more fun than watching at home anyway.
  7. Advanced metrics 40%. Traditional Metrics 40% Team making the playoffs 20% I'll be shocked if Donaldson doesnm't win. Plus, I think the fact that Trout won last year, could work against him this year.
  8. Yeah, that would pretty much be a dream scenario. Regardless of whether or not Buehrle helps this team in the playoffs, he has to go on the roster. You can't do that to a veteran who was one of the reasons they made it this far in the first place. From a non-sentimental perspective, players would be unimpressed with that, and it would be harder for the Jays to sign veteran players if they treated Buehrle that way.
  9. sign Price - you need an ace/anchor for the pitching staff - love the guy but too expensive. He'll probably get 7/$210 2. trade for Chapman - truly solidify the closer and allow Osuna to start - no bullpen is fine as is, without depleting farm further. 3. sign next year's Lowe for the bullpen - or what about just Lowe.? 4. qualify Buehrle - no. Let him go. 5. qualify Estrada? not sure on this, probably like to sign him for 2 or 3 years. Would prefer to see him signed for 2-3 years as well. He'll probably want a 5 year deal though. Too inconsistent for that. 6. pick up Dickey option - Yeah. 7. pick up EE and JB options - and then trade at least one of these guys away. Would be good to replenish the farm a little, and EE should bring in a nice haul.
  10. Yeah, the post-season has a lot more rest than the regular season, so we really don't need to carry that many relivers. Really, I think a team could get by with five relievers pretty easily, although we're more likely to run seven, with multiple lefties just for the luxury of being able to put the right/left matchups in our favor.
  11. Personally, I would be ashamed of this team if they left either Dickey or Buehrle off of the playoff roster.
  12. Jays current roster: Catchers (3) Russel Martin Josh Thole Dioner Navarro Infielders (10) Darwin Barney Josh Donaldson Edwin Encarnacion Ryan Goins Matt Hague Munenori Kawasaki Cliff Pennington Justin Smoak Troy Tulowitzki Chris Colabello Outfielders (5) Jose Bautista Ezequiel Carrera Kevin Pillar Dalton Pompey Ben Revere Pitchers (18) Mark Buehrle Brett Cecil Steve Delabar RA Dickey Marco Estrada Jeff Francis Latroy Hawkins Liam Hendriks Drew Hutchison Chad Jenkins Aaron Loup Mark Lowe Roberto Osuna David Price Aaron Sanchez Bo Schultz Marcus Stroman Ryan Tepera Once the post-season starts, we need to cut down to 25 players. Questions: 1) Who should make the cut? 2) Should the Jays consider dropping veterans like Buehrle/Dickey from the roster if it will give them a better team? 3) Should the Jays give preference to the 'guys that got them here' versus recent additions?
  13. An that same technolgy can turn Russel Martin's 6 WAR/season into 3 WAR/season.
  14. Mark Buehrle has 14 consecutive seasons of pitching over 200 IP, which is nearly miraculous in the modern age. Currently he is tied for that record with Greg Maddux. Christy Mathewson, and Phil Niekro. If he can pitch another 8 2/3 inning, he will hold that record by himself. He has one start left this season, and it's unlikely that the Jays will have clinched 1st overall at that point (but possible). Questions: 1) Should the Jays allow Buehrle a longer leash than they would normally allow, given Buehrle's shot at this record (and virtual guarantee of an HOF spot if he gets it)? 2) Does your answer change depending on whether or not the Jays have clinched first place over the Royals by that point? 3) If Buehrle pitches less than 8 2/3 innings in that start, should the Jays consider letting him pitch a couple of innings, to hit that milestone in the last game of the season, assuming we have clinched at that point. 4) Does your answer change depending on whether Buehrle is likely to start for the Jays in the post-season or be used as a reliever?
  15. When AA first became a general manager, he was a bit of a bargain hunter, picking up guys with known character defects - Colby Rasmus, Yunel Escobar, Brett Lawrie etc. However, he's unloaded all of those guys, some of them at a discount, and gone out of his way to pick up some guys known to have good character (Price). Question 1: Do you think having players with good character, helps team chemistry, which then helps teams focus on the game, thus generating more wins. Question 2: Do you think that the recent trades represent AA changing course, on his former plan of picking up players with character flaws, and trying to build a more cohesive chemistry? Question 3: Does this mean the Jays will have no interest in picking up Jonathan Papelbon from the Phillies on the cheap?
  16. Okay, my recent praise of Colabello may have coincided with picking him up in LOD. But that doesn't change the fact that he's hitting .383 wOBA and taking a back seat to Justin Smoak.
  17. Yeah, hard to find room on the team for a guy with a .383 wOBA. Guy with those kind of s***** numbers would have to be a gold glove shortstop to justify a spot on the 25-man.
  18. Some zipper head in Blue Jays front office is looking at advanced stats and saying that Smoak is putting up bettter WAR/game numbers than Colabello, without understanding that Colabello's war numbers are artificiially depressed as a result of playing out of position (outfield). If you just compare first base Colabello to first base Smoak, it's not even close. And as for BABIP, it's not just good/bad luck. There's a reason why Trout consistently has a high BABIP, just like there's a reason that Smoak has consistently low BABIP which he nicely combines with a high strike out rate, to create a lifetime .225 batting average. Colabello should be playing everyday. There's really no reason to have a guy who can only play 1B and who has hit for s*** over 2600 MLB at bats on the team.
  19. Rasmus was a cancer in the clubhouse too. You know when a guy like Lind openly talks s*** about a player he used to play with, there's something there.
  20. Exactly. with a .254 BABIP for 2015, he's almost five points below his career BABIP of .259 He's just been unlucky for the first 2600 bats of his career.
  21. Except maybe the guy who took him in BBDL, Premier League and #LOD.
  22. You always do everything you can to show confidence in your players, until have to make a move. The last thing you want is a pitcher worried about one more bad pitch equalling a demotion, On the flip side, if you're always saying everything is great and then demoting people, players never really know when they're safe, because they know you're full of s***, when you try to deliver reassurances.
  23. The problem is that we have an idiot manager who thinks it's more important to have your setup guy pitch the 8th inning, and your closer to pitch the 9th inning, than try to get a preferred left/right matchup.
  24. Nailed it !!! Anytime a player slumps for a couple months, is a great time to trade them off, at half-price. That's the secret to building winning franchises!
