  1. "The way we treated Yunel? The guy was a basket case, constantly made stupid plays to be a hotdog like when he tried to pick off Blanco after a routine fly out and ended up throwing it away" So?All players make occasional errors. I don't think Yunel had any egregious error totals in his time here. In fact in 2012, he saved 3.7 runs based on making so few errors. Did he make the occasional bonehead hot-dog play? Sure. But he's still a much better than average shortstop defensively. Does one hot-dog error count for ten errors from lack of talent? yesterday...was constantly complaining to umpires about nothing (remember when he was called out on a bang-bang play at second, replay showed he was clearly out and yet he chirped at the umpire for literally the next 3 innings while on the field? He doesn't whine that much (compared to some of our other players), but he does whine on random calls on occasion. Nobody would care if he wasn't being put through a microscope. "...the eye black scandal was the last straw. And bear in mind those are just the things we SAW...who knows how he was in the clubhouse but if his actions on the field are any indication he was a toolbag there too." So, because of the poor behaviour we saw on the field, we'll just assume that he was a douche in every other aspect. OK. That makes sense. Frankly, I liked his energy. Guy was always smiling and goofing around with his teammates. The eyeblack incident was stupid, but does not make him the raging homphobe people accuse him of being. For a city that elected a guy who said he didn't want money being spent on AIDS because it only kills gays and drug-users, it's a little perplexing that we drummed Escobar out of town because of a childish prank.
  2. I meant he is bouncing back from his atrocious start this season.
  3. After the way we treated Yunel, I don't blame the guy, if he has a little animosity towards the Jays and their fans. The guy does a dumb childish prank, and we make him feel like he's Hitler, dragging him around on an apology tour, making him get sensitivity training, and then dumping him to Miami the first chance we get. So he made a safe sign at home plate? So what? Fans look for any excuse to have a hissy fit. I'm glad to see him bouncing back this year and I hope he makes AA regret trading him.
  4. AA is a master at demotivating all of our minor league players. Doesn't matter how you perform. He's already pre-determined who he likes and who he doesn't like.
  5. Pillar is hitting .341. In 5 different levels, he has never hit under .320. He has never shown any difficulty in adjusting when he is moved up, which makes me think he will likely handle the transition to MLB better than most. Time to move him up to AAA, so that he is at the right age level, and see what he can do. FYI: HJM is hitting .224 (.639 OPS) in AA, and Gose is also hitting .224 (660 OPS) in Buffalo. Jays management really need to stop ignoring the hit tool. Pillar is a far better hitter than Gose.
  6. Why is it whenever people preface their statement with a disclaimer such as this: " I'm not being racist here", they say something absurdly racist, right after. "I see blacks and white guys who could pass for black being the usual culprits."
  7. If AA was in charge of drafting pleasure slaves for a Greek bath house, he would be one of the best in baseball. Drafting guys to play baseball? That's a little tougher. Hit tool? What's that?
  8. April 6 Jeremy Jeffress designated for assignment after pitching ONE inning on April 5. April 8 Dave Bush designated for assignment after pitching THREE innings on April 7. April 12 Dave Bush designated for assignment after pitching a total of THREE and a THIRD innings on April 9-11. April 27th Aaron Laffey designated for assignment after pitching TWO and TWO-THIRDS innings on April 26th. April 28th Brad Lincoln optioned to Buffalo, after pitching a total of TWO innings on April 25-26. May 3rd Justin Germano designated for assignment after pitching TWO innings on May 1st. May 9th Edgar Gonzalez designated for assignment after pitching FOUR and a THIRD on May 8th. The consistent pattern that we are seeing, is relief pitchers coming up, getting one opportunity, and then getting demoted, if it's a poor outing. Now, in some instances, it was the right decision, but the frequent DFA'ing following a single poor outing means that either: A) The Blue Jays management is giving up too early on their relief pitchers. The Blue Jays lack the assessment tools to determine whether or not a player is ready to come up to MLB. But there's a bigger problem, than occasionally losing out on a guy who could be marginally useful. Imagine you have a high-pressure sales job, and that the number of sales you make isn't always under your direct control. Now imagine that you have a boss looking over your shoulder, who's going to fire you if you don't make a sale in the first thirty minutes. Does this create a comfortable working environment that puts you at ease, and lets you focus on the task at hand? Probably not. We need to give these fringe relievers their best opportunity to succeed and that means, when we decide to bring a guy up, we tell him either: a) You're here only to fill in, until X player comes back. or You're here for two weeks, regardless of your success. After that we'll re-evaluate. No more of this: "You messed up. You're fired." AA acts like he's a Greek restaurant owner firing every waitress that breaks a plate.
  9. I think my 5 year old son will be ready before Romero.
  10. Romero basically just lost us two games. This one, and tomorrow, when we have no relievers. Managed to last 1/3 of an inning. I wonder if that's a Blue Jay record. I really hope he doesn't wear a Blue Jay uniform again this year.
  11. Romero's the kind of guy who will fight to find someone else to blame for this start.
  12. I've been calling for Janssen to be the closer for the last four years, but oh no, you guys wanted Santos, because he has "wicked stuff". Unfortunately, that wicked stuff, comes with walks, wild pitches, and hard hit balls. Casey on the other hand, doesn't have all the flash. He just gets the job done by out-thinking the hitters with a veritable arsenal of pitches. Kimbrel was definitely better last year, definitely gets more strikeouts, and definitely has more 'wicked stuff', but I prefer the nice boring W in the win column.
  13. Kimbrel has three blown saves already this season and an ERA over 3. Casey has 0 blown saves, and an ERA of 0.75 Kimbrel might look more impressive, but I trust Casey more to get the job done.
  14. We gave up quality prospects for the privilege of taking MB's contract off of their hands. Remember when we laughed at the Dodgers for taking all of the bad Boston contracts?
  15. Self-manage? We have baserunning Einsteiens like Lawrie and Davis, as well as egomaniacs like Bautista and Reyes, and the plan was to let the team self-manage? Hilarious. And the idea of letting Derosa lead as a player? That never works. You can't have some old has-been hitting .200 trying to lead the team. You need someone everybody looks up to, to do it.
