  1. Here are the criteria that gold glove voters look for: 1) Did they make the post-season? 2) Do they play for a major market team? 3) Were they good offensively as well? 4) Are there any highlight reel plays being circulated? 5) How many errors did they make?
  2. Heehee, this is funny stuff. If the voters looked at this stuff, Jeter wouldn't need a special room in his mansion to store his gold glove trophies.
  3. Exactly. Colabello's .330 average is unsustainable, whereas Smoak's .220 average is very sustainable. He's been hitting around there, his entire major league career.
  4. The Reds don't really need a guy to lead the league in being left on base.
  5. They say the Yankees targeted Eovaldi because they liked his splits when he was with a decent pitch framer. I bet we could get Vance Worley off of Pittsburgh pretty cheap.
  6. Seems they've finally figured it out that people want to go to the game in Toronto on Canada day. There was like three years in a row where we were on the road then, but really, it's probably about a 25,000 boost on a weekday.
  7. Apparently, Smoak is marginally better at first base defense. And also, he has a higher walk rate, which explains that awesome .287 OBP, whereas Colabello doesn't walk as much which is why he has that awful .372 OBP.
  8. Pollock has basically the exact same numbers as last year, except 2x the at bats.
  9. Big deal. How many arms slots does he have?
  10. Interesting. That must be new. The entire reason they're giving it away for this price is because they know a certain percentage of people will forget to cancel, and the auto-renew will kick in. That's what the five day wait is for too. They know most people that cancel auto-renew do it on the first day. If you don't do it then, your odds of forgetting go way up. It's a really dishonest practice, but it seems common with pretty much every online subscription. Should be illegal to force auto-renewal on people.
  11. Haha. The same thing happened in reverse last night. We need to keep this bashing up. It's good luck.
  12. So glad the guy with the .656 OPS against RHP this year got the start instead of the guy with the .892 OPS against RHP. Not to mention that Colabello is hitting 1.325 OPS in August and Smoak is hitting .555 OPS But we need to play Smoak because he's marginally better at defense, and because he has a low BABIP, like that's supposed to be a good thing.
  13. I strongly recommend cancelling your auto-renewal the second you finish payment. Othewise, it's very easy to forget and they jack you with the billing in like January, for a s***-load. Also, be very careful filling out the form, as they have a lot of co-registration, which could cause you to sign up for a subscription to Sports Illustrated etc, that you don't want.
  14. I don't think that's true. I am a Blue Jay fan, but I still hope for Smoak to strike out every time he's up to bat, so that the Jays will get rid of him and let Colabello get more playing time. I'm still baffled as to why we're lobbying to put a career .686 OPS 1st baseman into the lineup. You people are just basing things on fWAR without understanding it. The fact that a 1B is willing/able to play outfield (albeit badly) should make them more valuable than a slow sack of s*** who can only play 1B or DH. But Fangraphs penalizes players willing to fill in at positions they're not great at, instead of rewarding them. How about we give Smoak the same number of games in the outfield and see how good his WAR is. Colabello is a much better overall player than Smoak and hopefully he gets a lot more playing time down the stretch.
  15. Smoak is getting way too much playing time. I don't mind seeing a defensive shortstop/catcher who can't hit well, but there really is no use for a defensive first baseman with a career .223/.306/.385 (.693 OPS) slash line. Colabello should be playing everyday - either at 1B or DH. And I'm sorry, but what is all this ******** about hard hit balls. It's not like he's a rookie. He's had 2500 AB to prove himself. Bad luck doesn't give you a career .693 OPS at 1st base. The difference in defense is not enough to outweight the significant differences in offense between Colabello and Smoak. As for next year, I don't see any point in keeping Smoak. EE and CC can be the starters.
  16. It's easy to maintain 100% original members, if you don't have any requirements for maintaining membership. You sure there's no one in DDL that hasn't made a roster move in over a month?
  17. I'd be all over this if I was in the league. You guys sure you don't have someone that needs to be kicked out yet?
  18. Keep both. Could be a year or two until Trea Turner hits the majors and is productive. When and if that happens, then you have a nice problem on your hands.
  19. Didn't Sano have pretty similar K rates? He seems to have turned things around. Baseball seems to have accepted high K guys, as long as they get walks and home runs.
  20. Personally, I feel that anyone who has posted naked revenge pics of ex-girlfriends on the site, shows not enough judgement and too much vindictiveness to be a moderator.
  21. The most telling thing in all of this is how we know that Sanchez threw at Escobar intentionally. We know this, because given the circumstances, about 99% of the pitchers in the league would have done the same thing. Everyone at the RC expected Sanchez to throw at somebody. That should be pretty indicative of the ******** that transpired prior to that moment.
  22. Better than Tampa Bay? Pfffft. I don't think so.
  23. It's lucky that the Angels and Dodgers routinely make such stupid baseball decisions. Otherwise, their budgets would destroy everyone. I am a little concerned with Zaidi running things with the Dodgers now though. They're snapping up every Cuban available. They're going to have a dynasty.
  24. Our starting 9, is already THE best in baseball, with or without Travis. As for the Yankees, as soon as Texeira and A-Rod realize it's no longer 1999, and start playing like the old geezers they are, we'll catch up no problem. I think the Jays will finish the season seven games ahead of them. I can't believe we got an ace, two solid relievers, and a massive upgrade at shortstop. I would like one more depth starter, but otherwise, team is looking great.
  25. Great. So maybe if Gibby threw Smoak into left field on a regular basis, you'd be under the impression that Smoak is a terrible player.
