  1. Right because the Jays need more aging, overpaid pitchers. Good call.
  2. At this point Anthopoulos should have desperation mode on. Emptying the farm for a guy like Samardzjia is something you look to do at this point...
  3. That makes no sense and I'm sure you'd agree. Johnson was garbage when he was here, sure he's better than a 6.20 ERA pitcher and could do alright in San Diego, but 8 million is an overpayment if you ask me. On the wrong side of 30, made of glass, declining fastball, coming off a terrible year. It could workout for the Padres, but 8 mil is a lot of $$ for a small budget team. Terrible signing IMO.
  4. C – Wieters 1B – Davis, 2B – Pedroia 3B – Adrian Beltre SS – Al Escobar LF – Yoenis Cespedes CF – Adam Jones RF – Victorino P – Buehrle Those are my expert AL gold glove picks.
  5. I think the verdict is still out, but remember AA's budget was much higher this year than Ricciardi's ever was... so salary inflation included. Ricciardi and his team (which I admit did include AA) had a nice eye for pitching, but he was an idiot in the media. It's a close call you need to wait a few years to see how things turn out but right now it's very close and a matter of how you weight different aspects of the ball club.
  6. How low can he go? Maybe he won't get another hit this year?
  7. It's still great news, just a shame it hasn't happened yet. What's the likelihood of the Argos finding a place soon?
  8. But he also can't hit at all. His defense won't get any better, and while he is still young his hitting doesn't look very promising. Not a guy you can run out there everyday. Hopefully he's a useful 4th OFer at some point, I like Rajai better but for the price difference may as well just use Gose and spend that money on pitching/catcher/2B.
  9. Honestly this is subjective but I think the odds of that happening are about 100:1. .236 OBP with awful defense... even if he hits 40 HR that's still a terrible player IMO.
  10. +1. But with Sierra the guy is obviously pretty bad in the OF. His bat is decent though, if Melky isn't looking so good next year they need to try someone else and Sierra should be given a shot. I'm not convinced with Gose, great defense but the guy can't hit and anyone who tells you otherwise is just blind.
  11. Thanks that was interesting, his splitter looks really good but it looks like he's basically a 2-pitch guy. His FB does touch 96 apparently. He should be a good pitcher, not the level of Darvish though. "Jonah Keri of Grantland recently suggested that winning the bidding for Tanaka and signing him could cost a team between $62-110 million total." Wow expert analysis there Jonah.
  12. I actually think Pierzynski would be a great option. No he's not spectacular behind the plate but he's clearly much better than JPA. Use Thole or get Molina to catch Dickey and you have a pretty decent catching tandem. This is assuming McCann and Ruiz get way overpaid, which they will IMO. The biggest problem is SP so a serviceable catcher is still a huge upgrade over JPA, doesn't have to be the best options on the FA market.
  13. They're not as giddy about wins, but they still matter. If he finishes the season at something like 21-1 how do you not give him the Cy Young? What if he was 17-0 instead of 17-1?
  14. Scherzer is 17-1. Hard not to see him winning.
  15. Although do you have a feeling they'll be going after Garza instead of a trade? Wouldn't shock me as AA will be fighting for his job this winter.
  16. Give Gose a shot next year and then sign Davis as an emergency back up if he can't take a step forward... what sort of player could Rasmus net? Not much to trade down in the minors... but Arencibia has to go too, I think every fan realizes that by now hopefully Anthopoulos does too.
  17. You nailed it with the BABIP. Rasmus is an OK player but has way too many holes in his swing to be reliable. I'd look to trade him this offseason in a package for a good pitcher. His value is peaking right now in my honest opinion.
  18. Ok catchers are a bad example. If Cruz gets suspended Texas would be more likely to push for a guy like Rios- that would be a fairly big trade for them. All I'm saying is that it increases the odds of big trades happening. I don't really see any significant drawbacks from extending it 2 weeks or so, do you?
  19. Well you're adding two or three definitive sellers and also two or three teams who should be buying. This is cherrypicking but for example maybe in a week the Cards find out Molina's injury is a bit worse than expected so they become more desperate for a catcher. I agree it wouldn't change tons but it would at least do something IMO.
  20. This is a great idea- the further back you go the more definitive it is that you are a buyer or seller. Like you guys said with the second wild card a lot of teams are still "sort of" in it at the end of July. I wonder if it has a chance of happening?
  21. He is good at basketball IMO and yes he's better than Black. Devlin and Black are equivalently poor in baseball knowledge but at least Devlin brings some excitement. Campbell knew the MLB team inside and out despite being boing/nerdy, so I'd take Jamie.
  22. This guy shouldn't be doing any games you just get the sense he doesn't know anything about baseball. I'd rather listen to Faulds do play by play than this clown.
