  1. I thought you were talking about Scott Baker?? He would be an interesting signing.
  2. Well you fail to see how entertaining Tabby is but at least you see that those guys wouldn't do much for the Jays. Ubaldo would be great? Give me a break, the guy walks way too many (over 4/9 if I am correct) and is going to be over 30. How on earth could that be a good signing?
  3. Why would you be reported? Can Drew play 2nd? He hasn't ever but if so clearly an upgrade over the junk there now. Baker is also an interesting option assuming they don't go crazy on the other guys.
  4. Considering I took a board hiatus for a long time, what's the consensus now? I'm pre-occupied hoping the Jays get Johnson, since I don't think Ubaldo or especially Santana are very good. Unless they make a splash for Samardzjia there's not a whole lot to look forward to other than the SP's improving and some bounce back seasons.
  5. Reed Johnson minor league deal? Could be a serviceable bench player or at least fill in for injuries.
  6. He's been around since before Cerutti passed away, clearly he's a pretty good colour commentator or they would've canned him by now.
  7. They have Tabler still. He's pretty good.
  8. They definitely hedge their money in many ways. Considering the Jays are a small fraction of Rogers, I can't say that a falling loonie matters AT ALL.
  9. Yeah but those are more fun to watch, at least for me anyways. Once you see the review usually you know the answer and then it's just a matter of waiting it out for the official decision, as we see in hockey all the time. Not interesting.
  10. I mean in the NBA in the last few minutes (3 I think) refs can review any call. It gets pretty annoying because anytime there's a question on the call they have the right to go and review. I mean basketball is already annoying due to all the free throws near the end, so I think the effect is a lot worse in that sport. Either way, I hope we don't get into a routine where almost every close-ish call is being reviewed, that could add several minutes to a bunch of games which would be terrible for the sport.
  11. "It'll be interesting to see how many calls actually get overturned. And how often the crew chief calls for a review on his own" I would think anything remotely close like they do in basketball but it will be more rare. I just hope it doesn't slow the games down too much, they are too long to begin with.
  12. I'm not sold on Ryu, but can't argue with the season he put together. I wouldn't be surprised if he took a bit of a step back next year. Still a good pitcher and probably better than anyone the Jays will have.
  13. Ya, hopefully they bomb like the Jays but can't see it.
  14. Exactly the Dodgers don't care about $$/WAR (in fact a lot of teams probably don't). Everyone including Kershaw knows that about LAD making this deal a must for the team. After what he's done the last few seasons I would say it's more about locking him up than the terms. Good opt out clause for him though.
  15. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/01/dodgers-to-extend-clayton-kershaw.html
  16. 7 years 215 million. WOW. This was a must do from the Dodgers standpoint.
  17. At the end of the day you can't argue with the players who got in. Obviously there are guys who should be there, but Thomas/Glavine/Maddux are no brainers as well.
  18. Eckersley was unreal, but Gagne's 2003 has to have edged him out. That was unbelievable, easy choice for Canadian athlete of the year any other time, but we all know who won the Masters in 2003.
  19. Is this a fact or speculation? I've heard the rumors but I haven't heard "it's NYY or Japan, end of discussion"
  20. We are talking about potentially a 2 year window here and he's been pretty good in the AL East. He's old and it would only be a 1 year deal. I wonder if he'd be interested if the price were right? Thoughts? AA is a short-term contract kind of guy, and Kuroda despite his age is as reliable as they come, I thought he was a good option 2 years ago coming out of LA.
  21. I agree, but like you said, pipe dreams... literally :-)
  22. Hopefully. We've seen some crazy things with this Jays' era, I think Cano is all but gone as a Yank to be honest, the Jays need a 2B and for what it's worth he is Dominican. That would make for a huge middle of the order albeit with a short window and potentially a disaster in a few years. But Reyes top of the order with Bautista/Cano/EE somewhere in the middle would be a scary lineup.
  23. You'd be happy with Nolasco? NL pitcher who's been very mediocre save for last year. He's OK and wouldn't cost anything from the farm, but let's be honest the Jays need someone more than an innings eater which is all you can expect from Nolascol
