  1. Lol, typical Rays horseshoe up their ass kind of thing. Had that been Gurriel in the field and the Yankees hitting, a gust of wind would have pushed it foul at the last minute and the ball would have bounced off the fence back into his face and shattered his jaw or something.
  2. Telecasts…what are you 90?
  3. Whatever numbers they’re using they need to burn. He’s straight garbage in the outfield every game he plays out there and his only half redeeming quality is the occasional stolen base and scamper from 2nd to home IF he manages to even get on base, which is seemingly more rare than a Vlad Jr fly ball. He’s the exact prototypical player that never develops actual skills from his tools, has a brick between his ears, and hangs on by a thread due to athleticism.
  4. They cant call it mid motion, per the rules the pitcher has to have started their motion before the pitch clok ends, not release the ball before it ends.
  5. The tunneling on that and the fastball must nearly identical until that certain point where it just disappears. Looking at it's raw data its vertical and horizontal movement are basically average to below avg vs the rest of the league. Good velo separation though at about 10 mph, previous years like 2020 that separation was only around 7mph.
  6. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/mlb-set-to-implement-rule-changes-for-2023-including-a-pitch-clock-per-report/ If anyone has a subscription to The Athletic they get into far more detail than this CBS article about full details, but the short version is: the Pitch clock will be 30 seconds between hitters. The catcher must be in his box and ready with nine seconds left on the timer while the hitter has to have both feet in the box and "be alert to the pitcher" within eight seconds of the clock starting. Pitchers can still step off the rubber, which would reset the clock to 20 seconds if there's a baserunner and 15 seconds if there isn't. They are only permitted to do this twice per batter, though. The shift ban: Upon release of each pitch, there must be a minimum of four defenders -- other than the battery -- with both feet within the outer boundary of the infield dirt. Upon release of the pitch, there must be two of the four infielders on each side of second base. The team must designate two infielders for each side of second base and they cannot switch (for example, a team can't have a stud defender move back and forth based upon the handedness of the hitter). Larger bases: The bases have been 15 inches, square, on each side for decades and the size will increase to 18 inches on each side. There are a list of reasons for the change, among them that players' feet are much bigger now than when the bases were designed, possibly increasing the action on the basepaths (making it easier to steal bases or take the extra base on hits) and to possibly make it easier for players to stay on second and third in close plays instead of having long replays to see if a player barely came off the bag for a split second.
  7. possibly, but I dont think it was really an effort thing with the players. We'll probably get more info on it after the season/playoffs are over and then either Davidi or some other shill will finally have the permission to write about why he was really fired. My gut says there were disciplinary issues that weren't being handled to the FOs satisfaction and he lost the room because of it. The quotes from several players afterwards saying they were not surprised at his firing leads me to think that way.
  8. Let’s get the pen going right f***in quick. Need to keep this game from getting close and shut this s*** down now.
  9. Who has a more punchable general existence in baseball… current Rougned Odor or prime Dustin Pedroia?
  10. Is Teo standing 9 miles away from the plate a new thing or just a weird camera angle thing?
  11. Why don’t they just paint that padding yellow so they could easily see if the ball went over it? Such a simple solution to an obvious potential problem
  12. The reality is, all teams are streaky and consistently inconsistent. It's just that on this board, we watch the Jays the most often, and therefore have an observation bias that they are terribly inconsistent because we see nearly every single time they screw up.
  13. The teams in the central will probably all be under 500 next year with the reduced division games.
  14. It's also an anomaly to take 3 of 4 in New York followed by a sweep in Boston, and take both halves of a doubleheader, regardless of the teams involved. Can't bitch about the negative anomalies without acknoweldging the positive ones.
  15. It's not a fully balanced schedule tho. A completely balanced schedule is not feasbile due to the massive travel differences
  16. Seattle's rest of season schedule is kind of a cakewalk outside of a few games. 2 more against the White Sox, 3 against Atlanta, 2 against the Padres, then a road trip to play 4 @ the Angels, 3 @ Oakland, 3 @ KC then finish up at home with 4 against Texas, another 2 against Oakland and 4 against the tigers. 4 off days sprinkled in also. Hard to see them stumbling with that many games against complete garbage remaining.
  17. This reeks of counting chickens ….but I’d rather play Cleveland. They do not scare me at all.
  18. Where does the narrative that Zimmer’s baserunning sucks come from? Using whatever measures Fangraphs uses…if you prorated his BSR to 500 PAs he’d be top 15 in baseball. Prorate to 550 he just outside the top 10. Bag on his pool noodle bat all ya like, that’s indefensible but his defense and baserunning are absolutely elite.
  19. Why bring up Moreno to bench warm and maybe pinch hit? Jansen and Kirk can more than handle the catching duties. Not saying Zimmer is the correct move, just saying not adding Moreno isn't necessarily wrong if there's not enough playing time for him. As for Lawrence over the other guys.... yeah, I don't get it unless there's something we dont know about injuries. Like, I get not bringing up 2 of Merryweather/Pop/Gage... because you can only bring up 1, but... Lawrence? He's the worst of that lot by far.
  20. Lawrence over Merryweather is a bit of a head scratcher, maybe they're just keeping him in AAA as long as his rehab assignment permits then punt Lawrence into the sun when it's over.
  21. Not a single player in the first 3 years of service is mad at other players in different situations for making more money. They might be mad at the system in place, but not at other players.
  22. So the platoon advantage for the opposition would be RH hitters who would never hit HRs.
  23. There's rumours Conforto might be ready to come back in late September. Might even be able to sneak him in for a few PA's before the playoffs (wouldnt be eligible for the playoffs of course) and get the inside track for next season.
  24. I would put dumping dead weight into priority #1, then move to your list. Dead weight being Tapia.
