I don’t think any of you guys understand what a new baseball feels like vs a baseball that you have the ability to grip.
Yes I know they mud the balls beforehand but it’s clearly an inconsistent process. These guys are using a new ball virtually every hitter.
I’m all for controlling the use of gripping agents, but it’s tiring listening to people call these guys cry babies or cheaters without really understanding what it’s like. It’s insane to change (or start enforcing) rules midway through a season in any sport.
The dudes who throw the baseballs for a living are the ones who understand the impact the most. I don’t buy that hitters are unanimously jumping for joy. Did you watch the whole video? Glasnow says they had all the union reps on the call and nobody wants to completely outlaw substances.
You’re absolutely correct Jim. For the league to turn a blind eye for years and then all of a sudden half way through the season begin enforcing it is insane. If more guys start dropping like flys MLB is going to have a real “sticky” situation on their hands.
I don’t care if they said they were going to monitor it more closely this year. They chose to do nothing until they felt the external pressure from the industry. They keep f***ing with the baseballs in some desperate attempt at parity. This is 1000% on the league and their years of negligence.
I’m amazed how many guys are taking the side of the corporation and not the side of the actual dudes who play the game who are clearly the ones who understand the impact the most.
Lots of message board MD’s in this thread lol. Of course removing a tacky substance from the fingertips that are supposed to rotate a 5 oz baseball at RPM’s north of 2000 is going to create a brand new stress on the flexors that protect the elbow.
MLB dropped the ball again. Manfred is a clown and is embarrassing the league.
I want Trevor Bauer in Toronto just so half this board is miserable every single night he makes a start. Single handedly forced the MLB's hand to crack down on cheaters and people still hate him!
Jim we both know why I offered it. I was giving you the chance to pull chute
I owned him in BORED and was the first owner to drop him the day of the allegations
That’s awesome. For years I’ve said it makes sense to invest in these players in the minors for a relatively low cost. Giving them access to a S&C coach, nutrition, and a weight room would go a long way in player development of 18-22 year olds.
Whenever someone laughs at somebody pointing out the leadership and professional qualities a veteran player can bring to an organization my immediate thought is that guy was always picked last in gym class. Zero clue on what a winning culture actually feels like.
If you don't think the type of person these guys are affects how some teams view them as a free agent then stick to reading spreadsheets and parroting Fangraphs.
