  1. Matz has no idea how much money he’s leaving on the table by accepting the QO. All he knows is if he declines it is he’s turning down 18M guaranteed and attaching pick compensation to himself which is a negative for a guy in his tier. He likely accepts and enters the market in 2023 with no pick attached and a weaker class. Bye Steve thanks for the contributions
  2. Such a Cardinals move
  3. No thanks to that deal but good for Matz
  4. That narrative exists because he’s done it lol. The Jays are good at player development. They wouldn’t still employ Pete Walker if he didn’t make them better. It’s reasonable to expect the team to identify and acquire players who they believe can outperform their projections under their leadership.
  5. Hopefully Pete Walker doesn’t meet them or they will turn to pumpkins
  6. Please show me where I said Pete Walker was the sole reason Ray didn’t suck. I’ll wait.
  7. Is your argument that improvements in player performance are based on sheer luck and has nothing to do with the organization?
  8. Should be reasonably be expected I think.
  9. Ya we all know he’s not getting 9M AAV with offers from 8 clubs. The DeSclafani contract is a good indicator of where the market for Matz is at
  10. Nothing wrong with Matz @ 3/36
  11. Rankings are just someone else’s opinion, don’t take them as absolutes. If a player is within ~50 spots passed top 100 they’re probably pretty close in value Give me the player who is doing it in the majors already when everything else seems equal
  12. Ya but that’s still way too much. That’s an offer you make to Miami for Alcantara not two years of Castillo
  13. Nobody has ever trolled anybody on Twitter
  14. Free pick for employing one of the best relievers in baseball Kyle Boddy should just become the GM. I'm sure he would have more success running the whole org.
  15. I’d love to sign Verlander for two years and fill the final rotation spot with one of the mid tier options available in free agency or in trade. No long term commitments added to the rotation and massive upside. Should still be able to add an infielder and a couple BP pieces depending how cheap you go on the second SP.
  16. I think the board first started advocating for him the summer of his 8th grade year. He was getting groundballs at a 51% clip
  17. Dude you should cc Atkins on this because he’s the one who made the decision not me
  18. I believe he takes the QO if offered
  19. The caveat is you commit that up front, you don’t have the luxury of seeing how the market shakes out What’s the upside? The downside is that you tie your hands on other free agent deals to lock up a mediocre starter when there are ten other guys on the market just let him plus trade targets in CIN/OAK/MIA It never made sense to give Matz a QO
  20. Nice deal for LAA If he’s a stud they look like geniuses. If he’s hurt it’s just another let down year in LA and he’s gone
  21. Nobody is going to wish they had paid Steven Matz 20M this year Offering him a QO was never a good idea
  22. Awesome news. Shapiro and Atkins rarely disappoint. Give up two of your top five prospects for a guy with 1.5 years of control and then get him extended a month into the offseason. Great work.
  23. Correa to 3B Wander at SS??
