Guys coming back from Asia have had success recently so could be a nice addition. I think they’ll land a bigger fish though, Jays are going to spend and someone will take their money. Cant imagine they lose out on all of Cease, Valdez, Suarez, Imai plus trade candidates I would rather not spend on the bullpen. I would rather see a trade at the deadline to solidify it if they need to. I think there are enough good arms down there to start

Slot perfectly in two hole between George and Vlad, controlled through 2030 And then I agree completely with the upside risk since they got a sweetheart deal on Biebs. Plus Imai is so young for a FA just like Bo that you’re paying for like half of his prime and not ages 32-36 -
Not really sure what to make of him. I think I’m just velocityist where I don’t love committing to a guy with a velocity decline throwing 92 Id rather bring try and get one of these Temu aces than Ranger Suarez. If unsuccessful just do like 2 years for Merrill Kelly as a stability play instead of 5 for Suarez

I also wonder how much the Jays aided in Yesavage’s development of that pitch as that might be a selling point for Imai along with a clear understanding of the splitter in the org Is having 60% of your rotation throwing a splitter and 40% a gyro slider giving teams too many looks at the same profiles? Might make Cease the better fit, I dunno!

I wonder if Imai throwing the same arm side slider as Yesavage is a good thing or a bad thing when it comes to building the rotation from the front office’s perspective

And I don’t think Skubal is signing anything until he hits free agency. A Boras client about to sign the largest pitching deal ever Id honestly rather use prospects to trade for someone with control. Lots of starters to trade for. So much injury risk for a starter too I can’t say I’m a fan of taking that risk

Right If he had his foot amputated he’d still take the option. He probably gets 20M for one year for sure as a FA so him taking the option is 100% a decision made by him saying there’s nowhere else he’d rather be. Pretty crazy tbh we finished last in the AL East last year

As it stands today, the American League is wide open. There are no obvious heavy weights and I don’t think that changes after the offseason Of course making the World Series again would be difficult, but I don’t think it’s some Hail Mary sort of scenario

That’s a fair point about his spray chart. I think in that scenario they’re just controlling the things that they can control. Varsho barrels everything I honestly felt fine giving him that AB and he’s too valuable defensively anyway to take out of the game Because the upside is limited on that play. Like you’re banking on him either scoring on a wild pitch/passed ball OR you’re going on contact which really doesn’t make sense to me with the infield in and only one out. You have Varsho and Ernie Clement on deck who had just set the league record for hits in a single post season. At the beginning of that AB you like your chances of scoring one if you don’t hit into a double play

Could you imagine the outrage if IKF got doubled up on a ball smoked at Muncy? These things aren’t new. These players have been playing the same game their entire lives. Bases loaded less than two outs you’re guarding against getting doubled off. It is in the Baseball 101 book Part of what makes that play as close as it was was that Rojas ends up on his heels making that play taking a split second longer to transfer
