  1. He'll almost certainly at least opt out after 2020. They controlled Stanton through 2017 anyway. He basically sold three free agent years at 3/$77 in exchange for an insurance policy worth $218M over seven years. If he remains awesome, he'll opt out at 30 and get a 10 year, $300MM contract. If injuries ruin his career he won't opt out and still be absurdly rich. If it looks like he'll opt out during the 2020 season and the Marlins suck, it could be one of the most interesting trade deadlines ever. Imagine landing Stanton for your team's stretch run?
  2. I love Villar He's a speedster with great positional versatility and some pop. Been around for a few years but is still super young. Could actually turn into some WARz, some day. Let's also take a moment to acknowledge the existence of a professional baseball pitcher with the first name Cy
  3. Lest we forget Navarro and Revere both K'd down one run with the tying run on 3rd to end the season. Should probably cut ties with the both of them for that reason alone
  4. This just isn't true. He's like a big soft-spoken teddy bear.
  5. They are all bad. Should trade for Chris Stewart. Pittsburgh might want to save a couple mill and roll with Sanchez as their backup. Could try to get a guy like Lobaton or Maldonado. If all else fails just sign Jeff Mathis for a mill. Who really cares.
  6. Weird that a guy called up at 20 years old, skipping AA and AAA, would be... immature. Weird.
  7. holy f*** hopefully he gets the main chair and Buck is bumped down to colour and Tabler gets muted
  8. Nobody gives a s*** about gold gloves though. The awards are all stupid anyway.
  9. It's really just semantics. Defense in any sport is about preventing the other team from scoring. Pitching is about preventing the other team from scoring. Also relevant is that in most years, voters basically separate the MVP and Cy Young awards, reserving the former for a position player. So in most normal seasons the Cy is basically an all things considered MVP type of award for pitchers - which one of them was the "best pitcher" - so it should be considered as such.
  10. Pitching is the central aspect of run prevention, i.e. team defense.
  11. Navarro only had 192 PA last year. He'll be looking for more playing time elsewhere and he'll probably get it, so it's probably a moot point. Catching looks pretty thin on the FA market. He's also not particularly good so I don't care what he does. And they'd obviously bring someone else in rather than roster Thole. The SS Thole hit rock bottom with a 74 wRC+ in AAA last year.
  12. That's a playoff calibre 2016 offense, lol.
  13. Pitchers are volatile and lots of streaming happens in this league so TOR arms will get cut, but what is the worst position player drop in league history?
  14. I wish I still owned Porcello so that I could f***ing cut him this spring. *******
  15. I know that I dropped Richards in like the first month of this league. Also I think I owned Blackmon before 2014 but didn't keep him past the cut. I don't think I've ever let a really elite player slip away, but might be forgetting.
  16. Defense and pitching aren't as severable as hitting and defense. Pitching IS defense!
  17. May 18 10:52am Al Alburquerque (Det - RP) Add Free Agents Triple Hawpe Brewed! Silvio Jake Arrieta (ChC - SP) Drop Triple Hawpe Brewed! Waivers May 21 4:38am Jake Arrieta (ChC - SP) Add Waivers The Butt Stallions nick Randall Delgado (Ari - SP,RP) Drop The Butt Stallions Waivers
  18. Let's just take a moment tonight to reflect on the fact that jaysblue dropped Jake Arrieta, I picked him up, and then he instantly became amazing.
  19. It's actually very similar to the AL vote! Price is Greinke, Sale is Kershaw.

A bunch of things like - Basketball teams should basically never take a 2pt jumpshot - always either drive the rim for a foul/layup or shoot a 3 (I might be wrong). - Football teams should almost always onside kick (I might be wrong). - Baseball teams should pretty much never let a SP face an order for the 3rd time - Baseball teams should hit their most talented batters in the following lineup spots, descending: #1, #4, #2, #5, #3, #6, #7, #8, #9 - Hockey teams should never have more than one racial minority in their locker room.
  21. This is the first time Gibbers has ever expressed real interest in trading for an established MLB roster player, I think. We are already in uncharted territory.
  22. Why? Extreme groundball tendencies limit FB rate, but not HR/FB rate (at least I don't see why they would).

This isn't really true. There are things in every sport that make all the sense in the world on paper, but no team will ever really do them largely because of tradition and optics and all that jazz.
  24. So Keuchel was better than Price in those, but worse than Sale. Better than Sale at ERA, but worse than Price. Behind both of them in FIP and fWAR and K's and K rate. I still don't get it. Wins, baby. 20 wins.
