  1. Draft budgets would be a big part of it.
  2. Should keep Padre Pomeranz. Projection are very nice, and he could close or start.
  3. I don't really see the utility of any of his snippets, but if you read a bunch of them he's generally right, even if it's all common sense / obvious. I don't read any fantasy stuff on BP though so I only ever see his name when there is a fantasy spin on scouting reports.
  4. Throwing together some steamer600 Z-Scores and I have Shelby Miller as SP #156, one slot behind Rubby De La Rosa. Go D-Backs!
  5. addition by subtraction if there ever was such a thing
  6. And hearing him talk about things like adding incremental wins, translating draft picks to $$.... definitely a fangraphs dot com guy
  7. Ugh he's so smart that it hurts If I ever cracked a smile, it would be ear to ear right now
  8. Had TJS in 2013 right after getting drafted (October), so everything before 2015 was probably affected by that in some way. He's a guy that was only a part-time catcher in college. So, he's been learning the position while also recovering from TJS. A lot going on underneath the BR page for Knappy. He's a lot different than Cervelli. More of a 50 hit, 50+ power catcher. Maybe Derek Norris... switch hitter though, which is cool beans.
  9. Yes, it's a surprisingly weak list in the 3-10 range, for a rebuilding team. Even Williams still has warts. BA has Knapp above him, which is interesting. Top 10 Prospects ($) 1. J.P. Crawford, ss 2. Nick Williams, of 3. Jake Thompson, rhp 4. Andrew Knapp, c 5. Jorge Alfaro, c 6. Cornelius Randolph, of 7. Franklyn Kilome, rhp 8. Roman Quinn, of 9. Adonis Medina, rhp 10. Carlos Tocci, of
  10. BP put him 8th in the Phillies system? lowl
  11. Arencibia was generally considered to have an above average arm, he just had s*** mechanics. Remember he could chuck guys out from his knees, but his pop time was like 2.5. Alfaro's 27% CS rate in the minors is actually worse than JPA's and equal to JPA's MLB rate. Alfaro has bad mechanics and footwork, it seems.
  12. you mean the JP Arencibia of catchers
  13. I might take Matz and Meadows over Crawford and Alfaro. Crawford > Matz > Meadows >>> Alfaro. Hard to say how good Crawford will be in fantasy. Toolz haven't been loud in the minors. Alfaro hasn't developed at all. Mexican JPA?
  14. Must really grind your gears that I'm more e-popular than you
  15. DDL running at 100% capacity, surprise surprise
  16. Boggles the mind to see you guys treat a viable bounce-back candidate like he has spina bifida. The guy's nickname is "The Condor". THE CONDOR, FFS! "not relying on Saunders at all" in this context would have meant non-tendering him. Non-tendering The Condor.
  17. Common sense says that people don't make lengthy, multi-million dollar contract offers to people that they sincerely don't want to employ You're a strange person. But, maybe you're right. I'm not so arrogant that I won't admit that.
  18. If Toronto thought it was a net zero move, why would they do it?
  19. You can dislike a guy as captain of the ship but still appreciate his limited talents. Baseball in general is moving towards recognizing the significant value of investing in front offices. This is just Friedman padding his organizational depth in another area. Nobody would deny AA's skills as a talker, an extrovert, a people person, a negotiator, a guy who gets things done, etc.
  20. IMO it's hard to "pretty much fire" someone whose contract of employment has expired. Perhaps they made a decision to not offer him a contract, and the public expressions about a five year offer being rejected came from a mutual agreement by the parties, so that: a) the organization would gain a public relations benefit from apparently having offered a popular executive a lengthy contract to stay, and Anthopoulos would gain the within industry benefit of apparently making a powerful personal decision to refuse the offer (rather than the reality of having not been offered a deal). I think that's hard to swallow. It takes a lot of assumptions. For one thing, I don't think Shapiro would care all that much about the PR benefit of a fake offer and rejection, because fans would still be mad that AA left and in any event fans tend to get over things like that pretty quickly (coaching / executive changes). Also, I think the "AA saving face" angle is a bit flawed because something like that would be pretty transparent within the industry. These people all talk, and all have webs of contacts within other organizations. So that leads me to believe that they really did make an offer to AA that he rejected. And I suppose it is possible that they made an offer while hoping that he would reject it, but again, this seems unlikely to me. I doubt they would risk him accepting for significant money if they sincerely wanted him to leave. IMO, Shapiro sincerely wanted AA to stay as the nominal GM. Shapiro sincerely offered him a contract. Both parties realized that it would be an arguable role reduction, and perhaps Shapiro also told AA about plans to bring in Ross Atkins in some sort of almost parallel role. I think AA chose to reject it for this reason (reduced autonomy) and/or relationship reasons (just flat out doesn't like Shapiro or Ed Rogers or whoever). I think if we act like rational, reasonable, well-adjusted people, and follow the breadcrumbs of logic, this is where we end up.
  21. It was a family based decision. Had to think about his wife and kids when he decided to turn down a very stable situation in his home country and uproot them all so he could take a demotion in California.
  22. Did everyone actually get my mass email?
  23. that's my junkmail account, had it since grade 2 for some reason proboards stopped supporting mass-emails from Yahoo accounts so I had to switch my connected
  24. Thanks, cleared it. Everyone should send SVG a message on PB / email expressing how happy you are that he isn't leaving
