The entire mobile industry in Canada is such a quagmire... the government made all those new rules to protect consumers but all it's seemed to have done is shift more costs to consumers.
Sure, before you had to sign a 3 year contract but it seems like it was easier previously to get a $0 phone and a reasonable data plan. Now you just can't get anything reasonable with the major carriers. You're looking at spending $100+ out of pocket on a 2 year contract for any shiny phone, and then you HAVE to spend $75 to even get the discount on the "superphone". But even then, you probably get 1 GB tops for $75. So you're approaching $100 before you have anything reasonable.
It's just not worth wading into. I'll just get hand me down last generation phones on the cheap from people that I know and try to keep my current plan forever.
I'm currently paying $60 for 6GB and I feel like a pirate.
