Multiple years is only preferable if it significantly depresses the AAV - if Bautista trades AAV for term security.
One year is great. At his age he'll likely be a year-to-year player anyway after this season.
Carlos Beltran projects to be significantly worse, will turn 40 this year, and was given 1/$16M. A lot of people would have been happy giving that deal to Beltran.
Getting Bautista for a similar deal is a f***ing coup!
Rejoice! (once it's confirmed)
I really doubt it. When Smoak was extended the team probably viewed the extension in part as an insurance policy. I don't think they would avoid making an upgrade because Smoak has a $4M contract
Absolutely!
A Zeke/Upton platoon is f***ing disgusting. Ezequiel Carrera is a replacement level player and Upton is not much better. Jettison Zeke wherever, start with Saunders-Pillar-Bautista-Upton, Pompey waiting for a chance.
Pearce would probably still get 50 games in the OF.
Saunders works for me for like, $8M or whatever. But, there are a handful of other players that work.

Trevor Cahill had offers from #Pirates,#BlueJays,#Reds,#Rangers, but wanted to be starter again, and will sign 1-year, $1.75M deal w #Padres
Would have been a nice addition.
MBL Network has exclusive broadcasting right in the States, so possibly?
Sportsnet does in Canada.
Either way, /r/MLBstreams will almost certainly have good links.
How can any Canadian not love the WBC after the bench clearing brawl against the dirty Mexicans?
The tournament is wildly entertaining. You people clearly have never watched it.
RUSSELL MARTIN PLAYING SHORTSTOP IS GOOD AND AWESOME AND IS A STANDALONE REASON TO TUNE IN
We also have Freedie f***ing Freeman this year, apparently. C'mon.
With the February cut-down coming up at some point in February, friendly reminder that we now have personal trade blocks on the spreadsheet!
A great way to facilitate action is to make a personal trade block. Just make a Google Doc that only you can edit and send the link to me or z3r0s and we'll add it to our DDL spreadsheet.
Many of the recent trades have been facilitated by trade blocks.
More importantly, Texas' rotation is more wide open with s*** bags like Cashner, Perez, Chi Chi presenting easy competition for Ross.
Toronto has a flush five man rotation and if it's healthy, it would be hard to bump any of them for a semi-rehabbing Tyson Ross that needs to be handled with kids' gloves.
It's a pillow year for him so he just wants to get as many starts as possible and prove he's healthy.
The guys who run NEIFI always do stuff like this and then tweet the results. They do it all in-house though, with black box methodology (that is probably trash.)

If you have the underlying skills I imagine it would be relative easy to just scrape BREF and Fangraphs for Steamer projections and contract status, and then do some sort of simple age adjustments for future years, turn every asset into a $ value and compare.
