  1. MLS should be the CFL of soccer. Should have changed the rules up so it's quirky and fresh. Stop time, video review of fouls, allow line changes to keep the pace at a maximum, bigger nets, smaller goalies, make the field 10 yards shorter and a bit thinner, 5 on 5 sudden death OT, put up boards instead of a chalk line, etc.
  2. lmao @ soccer
  3. EE shed the character issues years ago. No concerns there. The players are still confident in the team. From what I gather though (I know a couple of lower level employees so take this FWIW) some of the players can't help but compare this front office to AA's team. The Shatkins group, to be blunt, is less player friendly. There's a lot of new-age stuff like mental coaches etc. that make certain players roll their eyes. AA had also built a lot of trust that he would do whatever it took to win in any given season and players don't feel the same way about Shapiro and Atkins. I heard that Jose has essentially NO interest in coming back to Toronto largely because of the new culture. You'll notice that Jose's agent is actually reaching out to other teams like Boston and Baltimore - he's desperate to get out of town. Again, take this all FWIW which shouldn't be much. Just rumours.
  4. I have it on good authority that he had issues with both teams. Money talked but who's to say how much it would have talked if he was actually attracted to the culture of the Blue Jays? The culture turned him off so all that was left to consider was the money. I think the bigger issue here is that Stroman is going negative PR on the sly for Toronto. Trade him to Colorado before this gets any worse.
  5. Shapiro actually hangs a Covey quote in his office. Some line about being a win/win "altrupeneur" and "talking straight, building trust, and overdelivering"..... I can't remember exactly what the line is. No jokes.
  6. No joke, I actually know someone who knows Dexter Fowler's barber and he said this was a relevant factor. Stro and Bautista talked to Dex at the white party they were all at a week ago and the feeling Dex got was that Toronto's front office is pretty cold and ambivalent about the players. That's just what I heard through the grape vine.
  7. slave labour from the wife for fantasy baseball graphic design purposes is 10/10 worthy regardless of the result
  8. It's cute but I have to scroll to see all the content so 9/10
  9. Smoak is 30 years old and has zero career WAR in over 800 games. Very real chance he wouldn't get a major league offer and would be seriously weighing a contract offer from the KBO if he were a free agent. Not that it matters in this context. If there's an upgrade they should just cut him loose and swallow the pill.
  10. Sorry. These Dodgers hypotheticals are out to lunch.
  11. No, they had to do a full removal of the meniscus IIRC. His knee doesn't have a physical state that will ever go back to normal. Actually, he is predisposed to even faster decline now. He's basically missing the biological shock absorber in his knee. More prone to pain, cartilage damage, arthritis onset.
  12. Yeah it's hard to see a trade fit http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/7023-Trade-for-Yasiel-Puig-(NJH-5)
  13. If he's going to end up in Toronto it might be a signing that happens later in the offseason. I'm sure Valbuena's preference right now is a guaranteed starting gig, at 3B in a perfect world. Toronto can only really offer rotational playing time between 1B, DH, maybe LF, and backing up 2B and 3B.
  14. Happ might not even make their rotation. They are probably looking to trade medicore veterans like Kazmir and McCarthy, not acquire another one in Happ. If they are truly looking for another SP it's just another front end option, not any arm. Kershaw, Maeda, Hill, Urias, De Leon, McCarthy, Kazmir, Wood, Stewart, Stripling, Ryu
  15. Friday at 1pm... I'm going to guess the point is procrastination.
  16. so TL;DR Toronto needs an OF
  17. Let's just leave it as a tab for a bit so it's obvious to everyone and we can collect links. We only have 6/20 trade blocks so lots of people haven't even gotten the news. Once we get 20/20 we can streamline like that and remove redundant s***
  18. Contract basically = his fair value. Losing the draft pick means St Louis essentially pays $92-95M in value. That's the push they had to make to get him.
  19. It's possible. There are always a couple 18 year old hitters in the Midwest League (Correa, Lindor, Torres, Adames)
  20. It's obviously good to hear but to be honest the old scout seems a bit deluded. His scouting prowess is a gift from god? He calls his old signees on the phone to correct their swings with immediate results? meh.
  21. I remember Tim Lincecum bet on himself and lost just before 2011. I think he turned down a $100M extension. But the Giants inexplicably gave him a $35M extension anyway when he didn't deserve it down the road so he didn't suffer. Should have lost out on $75M though!
