Just to put a nail in it, the compensation will be pick 40b.
I don't think there is really a functional difference between 40b and 20b and I was of the opinion that compensation was not within the spirit of the rule, so my inclination will decide which way the pick falls.
What we've done here, essentially, is a set a two-tiered precedent. In the future we will probably apply this as follows:
A) When any objective keeper quality player dies, the owner will get 40b.
When an exceptional or very valuable dynasty asset dies, the owner will get subjective compensation based on our previous rule.
Will A) apply to a player who is, say, 31 years old? Only the future caselaw will tell us.
How will we decide whether a gray area player falls within category A) or category ? Again, only the future caselaw will tell us.
I eagerly look forward to adjudicating this complex, evolving area of Baseball Dynasty law.
