  1. Or maybe Allard isn't a better prospect than Kay. Certainly doesn't have as much "stuff".
  2. Martin might be a free agent this offseason according to some twitter randoms. Some obscure rule about him spending time in Japan? I dunno.
  3. So the Rangers just got Kolby Allard, who is almost certainly a better prospect than Anthony Kay, for Chris Martin, who is having a good year and likely has a few more years of control but is a f***ing 33 year old reliever with like, zero full MLB seasons on his resume. Stroman trade looks much worse right now lol.
  4. Sounds like Ray, Bauer, Bumgarner will all get dealt. We’ll see how the Stroman return lines up.
  5. Yeah, lol. They can just sign a new Phelps if they want. People who do not think this is a decent move (or that it's just a "lateral move") are exposing themselves as morons.
  6. Nice little trade. I think Hatch was in their top 30. Kind of sounds like Biagini, where there are some SP traits but maybe the total package would just work better as a reliever with an unusually deep bag of pitches. The 2019 Contributor: Thomas Hatch, RHP: There are a few pitchers that could help the Cubs in 2019 but Hatch has the best combination of near-MLB-ready stuff and future upside. He’s athletic and fields his position well. My two biggest concerns are the arm action (effort) and the fact he doesn’t always finish his pitches and leaves his shoulder open, which hurts his command. He has the stuff — the potential for three average-or-better offerings — to be a No. 4 starter in the Majors with some maturation.
  7. I don’t know... I think you’ll find that my post is pretty balanced. We just don’t know
  8. Well.... not sure about that, lol.
  9. Yeah, by Atkins' own admission this offer from the Mets was the first legitimate trade offer that they received. He decided to take it four days before the deadline because the other teams did not seem to have that level of interest. But he could have lead the Mets along for a couple more days, played them off another team, and attempted to supplement the offer. That's the difference between getting Kay + SWR and getting Kay + SWR + some third, sort of interesting piece. The risk there is that the Mets turn elsewhere and nobody else matched Kay + SWR. Meh.
  10. Yes, that was my unclear point. If Sonny Gray is the most comparable talent traded in recent years, Stroman should have returned significantly less due to less control.
  11. You can probably make the case that two of those players were, in context, approximately equal in value to Kay + SWR right now. Not fair to say that SWR is better than all three. Mateo alone was probably more highly regarded than SWR is right now (whether or not that was justified or the industry agreed - who knows). So you can say that Toronto's return is light by one piece... but Sonny Gray had 2 more years of control after 2017 so it's not a direct comparison.
  12. Tbf I’ve read that Kay has kind of lost his changeup. We’ll see
  13. Giles still dealing with elbow inflammation. At this point, they should probably avoid forcing a trade. Keep him and revisit a deal in the offseason or next deadline.
  14. Yahoo should always just use pictures of another random player when they don't have one on file
  15. - Giles comment - Bunting too much - Stupid ugly face?
  16. Kay is being a bit underrated here. SWR is the more exciting player because of stats and upside, but in terms of value Kay and SWR are close to equal right now. His stuff and pedigree and history also indicate that it would be pretty wise to not focus too much on the smaller sample K and BB rates or ERA. He could be pretty freaking good! Watch him pitch!
  17. Huh. Anthony Kay and Marcus Stroman are both from Long Island. High schools are a 20 minute drive apart.
  18. Kaprelian had TJS subsequent to his 2017 prospect rankings and before the trade, and Fowler had suffered a catastrophic leg injury two days before the trade. Not exactly a clean comparable. Also Jorge Mateo was woefully overrated by the New York Hype Maccccccchine.
  19. SWR is in rare statistical company as far as recently historical A ball prospects go. It's like trading for Luis Patino a year ago. Could be great! If you filter for A ball, 18 years old, 70+ IP, and >20% K-BB% in the last two decades, there are like 8 total names and SWR is one of them. Thor, Bumgarner, Patino, SWR... and year, Shelby Miller, Jordan Lyles, Jason Knapp and another dude this year.
  20. Not a great return, fam. SWR has real upside but I'm surprised a SAL arm was the best return available for Stroman. At least he has a three letter acroname to pair with SRF. Kay seems like a backend SP prospect right now.
  21. Also sounds like Bo is on his way up. Removed from Buffalo's game early.
