  1. Probably an Americanization of a name like Wagenspach, so German or some s*** 200+ years ago.
  2. Yup. A player under contract or under team control has little to no say in where/if they get traded. Sometimes free agents negotiate no-trade clauses or lists into their deals but this is becoming more rare.
  3. Todd, why would some people not like that?
  4. This is such a fantastic amount of revisionist history ********. The 2016 Toronto Blue Jays lost in the ALCS. You think they should have immediately, before 2017, sold all of their veterans and good players who were under control and had value, in order to accelerate a rebuild? That was literally the only point in time that selling Estrada or Sanchez would have returned real/significant value. They should have sold Stroman and Donaldson immediately after going to the ALCS? Suck my farts. And then the free agent market for veterans unexpectedly went down the shitter around 2017-2018, and players like Pillar and Smoak no longer had significant value. This caught everyone in baseball by surprise. I would never submit that the front office has been perfect, but to even begin to argue that Toronto "... should be in a better position considering the caliber of players [they] had available to trade" is mostly just some whiny talk show host level ********.
  5. It's largely semantics but I don't agree. It's too cynical to say that wanting to contend was just a veil / smoke-screen. They had a period where they were one toe in the rebuild waters, one toe in the trying to compete waters. They probably thought they had some percentage chance to make the playoffs. Look at the recent moved by the front office. I don't think they care too much about optics.
  6. Mannnn people just do not realize how special the Blue Jays' core of position players is for this point in the rebuild. In 2018 the team was at least half-heartedly trying to compete. The pure rebuild wasn't initiated until mid-2018. Now, mid-2019, ONE YEAR LATER, the MLB roster has Vlad, Bo, Biggio, Gurriel, and Jansen. These guys have accumulated ~5 WAR in less than 1200 combined PA. In other words, they average out to be league average bats or better, as babies/rookies (crazy). This is the most accelerated rebuild one could imagine. And that core is surrounded predominately by cheap-as-hell players in their 20s, some of which have upside. Blue Jays fans should be leaving offerings at the Rogers Centre to appease their gods and saviors, Shapiro and Atkins.
  7. Sounds like the Twinkies GM limped around like a, dare I say, “beta cuck”, failed to improve his team (egregious and pathetic) and is now trying to save some face with the fan base by leaking stories.
  8. I mean he runs your favourite sports team and is clearly all up in your head. Both of those things are pretty Alpha.
  9. I find it incredibly refreshing how little Shapiro / Atkins care about "optics". I've read some deadline complaints on here that literally say they wish Toronto had received one tiny little extra piece in these trades for "optics"!!!! lmao f*** off
  10. Derek Fisher > Clint Frazier quote this, cowards
  11. There really just seems to have been no need whatsoever to grease the wheel with both Biagini and Stevenson, even if both of them have very little value. Fisher was a fringe top 100 prospect like 2.5 years ago, and he has been stagnant since then. I'm not entirely sure what his control picture looks like but I would presume he has one or no options left and was maybe even a 2020 DFA candidate for Houston? Correct me if I am wrong. I don't hate Fisher and believe I am even on record saying he would have been a realistic secondary piece in a Stroman deal.
  12. It is wild. There is really no justification here. Luhnow sensed the desperation and got a throw-in, probably.
  13. Man, if they threw in Cal Stevenson just to get Fisher alone... that will be impossible to defend. I'll definitely try until my final breath to defend it, but it will be impossible and I will fail.
  14. Edwin Jackson still "flashes potential". At some point, it's just not going to really happen.
  15. drama drama drama wow what will happen next
  16. It's not selling low when the player just plain f***ing sucks If anything they sold f***ing high on Sanchez lmao
  17. Biagini has a 4.45 FIP. Hard to say whether or not he even had any real value on his own.
  18. I find it SO SO SO SO So delicious (Sodalicious) that Stroman got sent to the Mets wasteland and cried about it, while Aaron Sanchez and his 6.00 ERA gets to team up with Greinke and Houston for the best World Series odds in baseball.
  19. Wow, guys. Just wow. Trades. Wow.
  20. Wow. Aaron Sanchez is the type of guy that Houston could turn into a monster, in some capacity, through pitch design.
  21. We would find a way to become happy with the deal, no matter what. That's how my hive-mind works.
  22. Franmil has 2.6 fWAR in 634 career PA... that's a present ~50 FV player. Bonus - you can say "make way for Franny!" as his HR call.
  23. Yeah Trevor Bauer is a borderline Ace; his ceiling dwarfs Stroman's (HDMH). Taylor Trammell seems wildly overrated by the scouting community. I don't think Puig has any real value in this deal - Cleveland just said sure, we'll take him. Hard to evaluate this trade. I don't think it's a greeeeat return for Bauer to be honest, but with Cleveland competing they want MLB players so it works.
  24. At a *third* glance, Allard actually sounds a lot like.... Thomas Pannone!
  25. Allard probably has a better third pitch, and certainly has better control + far superior age vs. level points. Hard to say which one is better. I'd take the guy who does not throw 89 mph though if I had to pick.
