You have this exactly backwards, actually. Reductio ad absurdum is a way if destroying bad positions by showing the extreme example. If you say "no player should be removed from the level of excellence for something that happens after their playing career" your position is quite flimsy and easily reduced through an extreme example. Maybe you should go back to school? You seem to be getting stupid as you age. Right now nobody can judge if removing Alomar was appropriate because we don't know what he did, but you have already taken a position on this. So you get squashed like a bug. Have a nice weekend.

Lots wrong in here. Holy s***, Jim. For starters, there was absolutely no settlement here. This person did not advance any claim. There was nothing to settle. They brought the allegations to MLB to get Alomar punished professionally.

Hard if not irresponsible to have a strong opinion on this. On one hand, the third party law firm investigation and the strong reactions of MLB and Toronto make you think there must be a lot to the allegations and they must be bad. On the other hand, we have seen institutions overreact to minor or benign things in these situations. The "external law firm" investigation may have been a joke, or a conclusion first process. Toronto may be overreacting as a PR move because Shapiro and Atkins got dragged a bit about doing nothing in the Mickey Callaway fiasco back in Cleveland. We really know nothing. I don't know what to make of the fact that the accuser does not want to advance a civil claim or criminal complaint. I feel like he probably did do something very bad that would warrant all this, but we just don't know and we can't rule out the possibility of this punishment not fitting the crime. If he did commit some egregious sexual misconduct offense than I absolutely support removing his name from the Level of Excellence. I don't see a strong argument for leaving him up there in that case. Any extreme hypothetical proves this position. If Dave Steib confessed to being a serial rapist would you just leave him up there because of uhhhh history? No, lol.

Yeah, sometimes you should. It's not an objective vs. subjective binary where objective info is always better. Batting average in high school is an objective measurement. You would not use that over a subjective scout's opinion on hit tool. You would not use a gulf coast league wRC+ over scouting consensus.

The congruent data point of them both being #1 prospects in the scouting community is probably worth more than the data point of Franco's wRC+ figures in A+ and below.

It's crazy to type this but his defense at 1B has looked incredible this year. Edit: Not looking to get all hyperbolic but he looks like a top 5 defensive 1B in baseball right now. Better range and arm than the typical 1B, good hands on picks, incredible athleticism and flexibility compared to most 1B. Fat Evan White.

It's just a gimmick for spectators. Tom Tango had a good thought about the shootout in hockey - they should do it every single game but before the game begins. The shootout winner then holds the tiebreaker for that game if it ends in a tie after 60 minutes. Fans who like the shootout can show up early to watch and fans that hate it don't have to. The teams can also adjust their tactics accordingly (team that lost the shootout may pull their goalie to go for the win, for example). The gimmick HR derby could be handled that way. I think it would be less annoying for traditional fans if done like that. Maybe.

Real baseball is h2h, not roto. As long as Springer is healthy for week 1 of the playoffs then I'm happy. The playoffs will be easy to make without him.

Some big signs of encouragement over the last couple of weeks for sure. He is having better PAs and he has murdered some pitches from tough arms. Offensively I am more worried about Gurriel. Tellez - bad start but some good signs lately. still not sure he is more than a replacement level player. Gurriel - very worried. looks f***ed. Kirk - bad results but I'm not worried. Jansen - I've given up on him entirely. Backup C. Biggio - I'm not worried.

How do you accomplish that though? Here are a few ideas I have seen: 1. Move the mound back or lower the mound. IMO this is a bad idea because it would just make velocity training even more important. It might decreased K's though, at the cost of a lot of crafty pitchers being able to even survive. You'd get a lot more mindless velocity guys in the game. 2. Deaden the ball so that hitters no longer prioritize home run swinging. Make it dead to the point that players with average power just cannot and do not hit 20 homers anymore. These guys would then perhaps change their approaches and try to be .300 hitters again. 3. Robotic umpires calling a strict strike zone. This would eliminate any pitcher's calls. This would perhaps increase BIP only if it is correct right now that the non-rule book strikezone benefits pitchers more than hitters (not clear if this is true). 4. Make a walk worth two bases. This is Josh Donaldson's favourite idea, lol. It would certainly force pitchers to throw strikes. 5. Alter the ball to reduce spin rates. 6. Allow the hitter to attempt to run to first on any pitch that gets by the catcher, no matter the count.

I meant better hitter IRL. I think Meadows is a full rung above Gleyber in terms of pure offensive talent. Mostly looking at the EV and barrel rates. I know the projection systems love Gleyber's age and 2018-2019 production but I think if he's a .340 wOBA hitter the Yankees are very happy while I think Meadows could settle in as a .360+ guy.

I would take Meadows just because I think he is a bit better IRL and also a bit more well-rounded in fantasy. But they have to be pretty close.
