  1. Montoyo would probably save Romano for the 9th and let Dolis blow it in the 7th
  2. I would be mildly annoyed if I paid full pop for a ticket and only got to see a 7 inning game.
  3. weed is legal. chillax dude. that's a great signature, you should put it in yours
  4. but why would you use bWAR with a reliever who is clearly having a lot of ERA luck
  5. Graveman isn't even top 15 in the AL right now. His fWAR is identical to Liriano's at the time of the trade. And I didn't even f***ing compare them. The trades are similar because Houston is willing to deal a scuffling young position player with huge upside for a mediocre rental arm.
  6. Because Toro is a huge return for Graveman. Reminds me of Teoscar for Liriano
  7. I am kind of at the point where I don't even care if he starts of relieves for the rest of his Blue Jays career, as long as he can put some WARs on the board. False dichotomy incoming but I'd rather have an elite closer than a middling SP who cannot stay healthy. On this team, for the next few years.
  8. There are basically four viable ways to build a pen: 1. spend a lot on it. not a great idea for most teams but can work for a rich team. 2. have a great pitching pipeline and let your cup runneth over. you end up putting guys in the pen that other teams might use as backend starters. 3. go the cheap route. you get less performance certainty but at least you aren't risking dollars or prospect capital. 4. be ahead of the curve at talent identification and constantly be tinkering, acquiring guys and turning over relievers. see the Rays. Most teams are varying proportions of the four approaches. Toronto is doing none of #1 and does not yet have #2 in place (although it might happen sooner than people think). This year is a bit of an indication that they aren't great at the #4 tactic either.
  9. Almost every reliever in baseball that can reasonably be acquired/signed has an extensive injury history. For many that is why they are relievers.

    wat?
  11. Yes of course. Really I was just making a point for those who might think the Mariners have done something different/better than the Blue Jays as far as roster/pen construction goes. The Mariners don't have clutch players, they are just getting lucky, very lucky, as far as reliever volatility goes. That's really all there is to it. Toronto on the other hand has been f***ed by bad pen luck (performance and health, although some of the health outcomes were known risks).
  12. Yeah well if someone wants to trade a Gleyber Torres type prospect for Ray and/or Semien then sure, do it.

Toronto would be horrendous and unwatchable if they did that trade
  14. How did the M's construct their clutch bullpen? Paul Sewald - minor league contract Drew Steckenrider - minor league contract Kendall Graveman - declined his $3.5M option and signed him back on a $1.25M deal JT Chargois - minor league contract Erik Swanson - was part of the Paxton trade but Seattle was probably hoping that he could be a SP Hector Santiago - minor league contract Anthony Misiewicz - 18th round pick, traded away and then re-acquired for an international signing slot The moral of the story is, I guess, to literally invest nothing in your bullpen.
  15. Maybe 9? Just going down the board on Fangraphs, I would not pay that much for Riley Greene or Noelvi Marte. I might for J Rod, Witt, Luciano. Maybe.
  16. He is dogshit and owed like $67M through 2025. Toronto would never do a trade taking him on. It's a ~$67M sunk cost. The Padres would have to eat like $20M and then add like, two of their top 6 or so prospects. They would never give up guys like Hassell or Gore just to shed Hosmer. At least I can't imagine.
  17. Playoff odds don't lie but I still like their chances. It looks pretty clear at this point that the White Sox and Astros will win their divisions, and then the Rays and Red Sox will take the AL East slot and one of the WC slots. 4.5 games back of the 2nd Wild Card. Looks like they have to catch the Yankees, Mariners, and Athletics and hold off the Indian Spider Guardians and the Angels. None of the teams racing for the 2nd Wild Card are that scary. The Blue Jays are still "right in the thick of it" despite the bad luck and blown games. Only a loser organization would sell at the deadline if they are in that position at that time.
  18. One of the worst farms in baseball though. I've never heard of those guys. Looks like they are slotting in about 16th and 25th in the Cubs system. Which is a mediocre system.
  19. evidently, 6:23 PM ET Spanky
  20. Spanky smarter than 60% of the BJMB nowadays
  21. Crazy to think about where this team might be of Merryweather, Phelps, and Yates all held up.
  22. Holy f*** I want to edit a little video of Buck and Tabby jerking Alex Cora off for not pulling Pivetta and then just end the video with that homer
  23. That's a weird one
  24. I actually banned him before I saw all this. Could tell from his post calling me a dummy that it was some basement dweller crawling back to troll
