  1. Gurriel seems like one of those average / below average players who will have a 5 WAR season out of nowhere and people will think he figured it out but then he will go back to being a below average player.
  2. Think about what you just said.
  3. Visual strength of schedule using my arbitrary opponent quality bins. I chose not to include Seattle. I also could not bring myself to call Seattle a hard opponent but it seemed dishonest to just call them average so they get a special colour. Did not colour the matchups between these teams because we know those will be critical. Was mostly interested in the strength of schedule outside of those matchups between competitors. Takeaways: - Oakland has a tough grind towards the end and not a lot of easy matchups overall, especially if Seattle stays in it and has something to play for mathematically to the bitter end. - Yankees kind of have an easy road; TB will probably be locked into winning the division and playing reserves in the final series. Makes it even more crucial to take the majority of the games against them. - Toronto has the most easy opponents, but also has TB six times. Got to take care of business against the trash teams and then not lose ground during those TB series. - All eyes will be on New York and their 9 games with Toronto and Boston. Those three series have a good chance of deciding the wild card teams.
  4. Why is he playing? Have you seen the standings?
  5. Because you touch yourself at night
  6. 12-2 is greedy even against bad teams. No matter what, Toronto has to go bananas. The easiest way to do it is probably to destroy the Yankees and Tampa... I mean that's the hard path in terms of baseball but easier to make the math work
  7. Haha yikes. Teoscar could probably do better there but maybe they don't want him to get hurt chugging around in CF. Seems like a bit decision though.
  8. It was one game so zero worries here. He doesn't need great command to be a great reliever. On balance the stuff we saw wasn't worse or much worse than Romano's s***, for example. He's a huge upgrade over certain other options.
  9. Oh is he a shortstop now?
  10. Bad luck, a lot of it. An error by Bo, then a bloop double, tough start. Then two solid singles. Was throwing 98 (not 100+) and not getting ahead of hitters so didn't exactly look amazing.
  11. It's part of why they drafted him Go listen to the Baseball America podcast with the Jays scout who signed Manoah. Cool insights.
  12. Holy f*** what a win
  13. "Janson Junk will be called up to the Angels on Friday, MLB.com freelancer Matt Kardos reports." Is there a better pitcher name in the game than Janson Junk? Hopefully he throws 88 mph poo
  14. He lost his slider. It's kind of weird. Velocity is not down but the break on his slider and the whiff% changes last year. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/a-potential-fix-for-patrick-corbin/ He might be fixable!
  15. He wasn't s***, he was just mediocre with Washington. Still an above average reliever so it was more than reasonable to assume he would be able to help Toronto. And his velocity was even up which was kind of interesting.
  16. Yeah but I think his 2021 salary was already being covered by Washington
  17. Right. Not "whichever is crossed first" but when both requirements are met. Example: A player shall enter free agency in the offseason following the regular season period in which both of the following requirements have been met: a) the player is 29 years and 6 months of age for at least one day of the regular season the player has accrued 4.000 years of service time by and including the last day of the regular season Something like that would mean most players reach free agency after the age threshold but some late debut guys would reach free agency a little bit later. You'd still need to figure out how arbitration or salary escalation will work in relation to this but that's not impossible. It could still be based on service time and just go on in perpetuity. So someone who only has 4 MLB years before free agency only goes through arbitration once, in year 4. And someone who debuts at 19 and is under control for ten f***ing years goes through "arb 3" seven god damn times and probably makes something close to free agent AAV in all of those years anyway. I like it. I really like it. Anything that would incentivize teams to promote players is better than the current system.
  18. It's a suit jacket and it's also a nod to the internationality of the team. I don't mind it at all.
  19. I am not sure about the specific age proposed but I really like the idea of an age for free agency because it would incentivize bringing players up earlier. They would still need some exceptions, probably, for exceptional situations. Imagine a college pitcher who has multiple surgeries and debuts at like 27. Merryweather for example. Free agent at 29.5 would be kind of BS.
  20. I think so. Happened to me earlier and I emailed Fx about it and I believe the makeup day stats ended up counting for the original day. Although the makeup game was the next day and it was within the same week so it didn't matter.
  21. Feels like that's the season. I know, dumb post, but c'mon. Keegan Akin just beat Ryu at this point in the season...
  22. The trade sucked. Continuing to roll Brad Hand out there out of stubbornness would have been compounding a bad decision. He really sucked. Bad trade, good DFA. I hated this trade from the jump, look it up.
