Losing Gurriel does not feel that significant because he was playing so poorly
last 30 games .240/.287/.322 ---- that's f***ing brutal for a guy with no real defensive value
I can't understand the call with Kirk.
The Sanchez call I saw the justification for because of dropping his knee. Like he physically began blocking the plate before the ball touched his glove.
All Kirk did was inch towards exactly where the ball was thrown. And how can they say Rutschman had no sliding lane when he literally slid into the plate without contacting Kirk?
It's complete nonsense.
I just don't understand why the SETUP of the catcher even matters. All that should matter is whether or not the runner has a clear lane to the plate when they slide.
sure but there are lots of top prospects who don't produce
Bart, Adell, Kelenic, Whitley, McKay, Pache, Kieboom..... these are just a few examples of highly ranked players from Pearson's "class" who have been mostly useless.
4 innings of a +7 run CF
combined with 5 innings of a -5 run CF
is
7*(4/9) - 5*(5/9) = 3.1111111 - 2.7777777
= a +0.33 run CF
so league average D on the whole
I think they can and should do this.
Merrifield is a WEIRD hitter having a bad year but I don't think he's useless at the dish like JBJ and Zimmer. I think you still use him with confidence against lefties especially with all the other options being who they are.
So you, Zimmer starts the game and plays a couple defensive innings then gets pinch hit for my the "starter" with the platoon advantage who probably gets 3 PA. Then that guy is either pinch hit for later when platoon advantage switches, and/or replaced defensively by JBJ.
No, I never said that.
But you said they literally make the team worse. That's dumb.
I would have just called up Moreno and Pop probably. Or some other arm like Juenger or even Trent Thornton if Pop can't be called up yet. At least Thornton can have some use as a middle reliever.
The Braves are insane now.
Fried-Wright-Strider-Morton-Odorizzi
Anderson-Soroka-Muller-Shuster in the minors
Acuna
Swanson
Riley
Albies
Olson
Harris II
Grissom
d'Arnaud / Contreras
Only apparent short term thin spot is the outfield corners in 2022. Rosario and Grossman blow; Acuna has not been handling a corner every day.
I think their only core players reaching FA this offseason are Swanson, Morton, Kenley Jansen
You really think they are going to use Lawrence out of the pen in a close game?
He's probably mop up duty or emergency use only. Might never even see him pitch.
If they want to start Zimmer over Bradley Jr. that's not a downgrade anyway, just a lateral move s*** to s***.
