  1. Yeah. The doomscrollers will scoff but it wasn't completely unreasonable to expect one or both of Pearson and Merryweather to be elite relievers this year. That Toronto has gotten NOTHING from them combined is pretty horrendous.
  2. I dunno, it's not like he's hitting flyballs that are dying in the outfield all the time like Bo was. His barrel rate basically goes 10%, 11%, 10%, then a measly 4.3% this year. ISO of course shows the same trend. I think his swing or approach is a bit different and he is game planning to shoot singles to the opposite field a lot more. So just not even trying to crush the ball.
  3. Yeah if he can maintain most of this contact/AVG and have a spike up close to 20 HR then sure. But with his current approach, he's not a 20 HR hitter. He's kind of not even trying to drive the ball anymore?
  4. I think it's very possible they let Teo walk for a pick. Doubt they would even qualify Gurriel.
  5. I don't think Toronto trades either of Gurriel / Hernandez. Teo will be relatively expensive in arb3 which limits his value in trade ofc. Gurriel is not going to appeal to many teams despite being cheap and hitting .300+ because no power, no defensive value. Odds are these guys are in the corners in 2023 and Toronto just rides them to the end of their control.
  6. Teo was also garbage at the start so he's been extremely good over the last couple of months. .396 wOBA since June 1st.
  7. Ah I see it now. Through June 9 his ERA was 4.66. You got ERA scammed. Since June 10th he has a 1.01 FIP, 1.40 ERA, insane ratios, lol.
  8. My suggestion to the doomscrollers is to take a week away from the message board. Don't even watch the next few games. It'll be okay. If the Blue Jays are not bringing you joy, simply disengage. Marie Kondo.
  9. You dropped him in MAY? Through May 8th (first month of season) he had 18 Ks in 9 innings and a 1.66 xFIP
  10. I remember dropping him before 2021 in the DDL. Or maybe after 2021. Either way, no regrats it was an injured RP and my pen probably looked set.
  11. Need these two and Pearson healthy
  12. I hate this team
  13. Since May 1st Biggio has been 24% better than league average, offensively. Espinal has been 12% WORSE than league average, offensively. Biggio has been worth 1.3 Wins in 48 games played. Espinal has been worth 1.1 Wins in 81 games played.
  14. alright back to talking about precisely where Jordan Romano ranks in the list of active closers and whether Kikuchi should start pitching right handed
  15. Is JBJ a good clubhouse guy?
  16. I dunno. I'm neutral on the move. I think JBJ is cooked so I'm not expecting much at all. "streaky" is often just a euphemism for bad in baseball/sports.
  17. You go from a 40% K rate to 20%. At least JBJ can put the ball in play sometimes lol
  18. check his sprint speed on statcast. it's below average now! he has a negative BsR on Fangraphs!
  19. It's probably a meaningless move, if it's JBJ over Zimmer. Pinch running downgrade, defensive push, better hitter?
  20. So what do you do in the offseason... A) Continue down the developmental road. Put him in the lab. Try to create Good Kikuchi. Let him go back to #5 SP Kikuchi and throw whatever he wants. He'll maybe revert to being a 1 WAR hot mess. In 2020 and 2021 he was basically: 35% Four seamer 35% Cutter 20% Slider 10% Change In 2020 they have made him 55% Four seamer 15% Change 30% Slider I understand the theory because the CT looked s*** and 4S looked better but it clearly isn't working so what he f*** do they do lol.
  21. Overconfidence in their ability to tweak pitchers I guess. They fixed Ray and helped Matz and got cocky? But the decision to scrap Kikuchi's cutter is not that weird. It sucked. Terrible contract though. I hope they are willing to cut him during 2023 if he is pitching anything like this.
  22. This is a silly line of discussion anyway. Romano PROJECTS as a good but not elite reliever. That's all that really matters. He projects better than a few guys on that closer list, but also worse than a lot of non-closing relievers. His decline in stuff and K-BB is having a negative effect on his projections. You will note that the more responsive projection system (THE BAT) gives him slightly worse ERA/FIP/K% projections. Hopefully in 2023 his stuff is back to 2021 levels. He turns 30 in April though, so who knows, that might be wishful thinking.
  23. There is like a 99% chance Sale broke his hand punching another wall, right?
  24. Cal Quantrill and Gavin Lux and Dylan Carlson, all disappointments in their own right, are like the 2nd to 4th best players taken in R1. Will Smith the only standout. Could be an 80 to 90% failure rate in the first round based on your line in the sand. There are three players in the 2nd round better than all the players in the first round! Bo, Reynolds, and Alonso.
  25. The 2016 draft is looking like an all time stinker. Still early for a number of those players but the first round is full of disappointments.
