  1. yeah i could see them signing a vet OF for the bench Duvall, Pham, Pollock, Cutch... probably a strong preference for RHB
  2. Toronto has the best defensive outfield in baseball Yes or no?
  3. i can't find that split easy but the video probably shows all the hits
  4. wait Varsho is incredible at bunting for hits 9 for 12 last year
  5. hopefully Toronto tries to get him to chill on the bunting, at least for a month or two his projected HRs last year were 30+ in most stadiums and without the shift he might want to just f***ing hack away all year long...
  6. So many Rays seem "overprojected" Franco 5+ WAR Yandy 4 WAR Paredes 3 WAR Siri 3 WAR Bethancourt 2+ WAR Lowe 3.5 Give me the under on most of them
  7. clearly they are just trusting their projections on Franco, and some other guys.
  8. Maybe that’s fine.
  9. Rangers' rotation does not inspire a lot of confidence but they do have enough arms, I think. But my brain says take the under on most of their arms, especially Martin Perez. That division is closer than people realize. It's close to a 4 team race. Projected WAR: Astros 48.3 M's 43.6 Rangers 42.2 Angels 40.6 ~6 win gap is nothing, in projected WAR. That's one Kyle Tucker injury from being a 1 win gap.
  10. Biggio will never be Ben Zobrist because he is worse in many ways, haha. But he's a very useful part time player and a great backup. It's like having a better version of Dustin Ackley (more walks) on the bench, but with zero hype.
  11. Duffy is a good call. Other than him and Wacha (who will get Kluber money, maybe for a couple years) I don't see a SP who would be better than Kikuchi or White, in my opinion. There are a few guys like Cueto/Grienke/Davies/Miley/Bundy who would maybe be sideways moves - they would not improve the team as projected but would push everyone down and add depth I guess. But if you add a boring SP5 and push Kikuchi to the pen, who gets optioned? Or do you just bet on at least one injury before camp breaks? I agree with you though that focusing on MiLB possibilities makes more sense. If you can get Lindblom, Pineda, or someone like that on a MiLB deal it does just as much as signing some bum for the SP5 slot and it helps with roster construction.
  12. Yeah I think that was even mentioned in an article somewhere
  13. It’s always better to have good hitters you f***ing meathead I swear you have the IQ of a golden retriever
  14. You are truly the perfect marriage of stupidity and confidence.
  15. But I was told that small ball wins playoff games? lol The only argument for elite hitters becoming disproportionately valuable once the playoffs begin would be something like: 1. There is more elite pitching 2. Elite pitching means elite stuff 3. Elite hitters are the only ones who can hit elite stuff This seems true but there are lots of holes in it. Like, generally s***** hitters who make contact like Tapia can actually have a better chance at putting elite stuff in play than many good hitters. Also elite hitters are very diverse - some feast on bad pitching, some murder fastballs, some are plate discipline and spin recognition superheroes, etc. If you want to roster an elite hitter specifically to win in the playoffs you probably want the guy who can turn around triple digits and hit the 98 mph fastball at the top of the zone. But we are pretty far removed from what connorp has been saying for weeks which is a more generalized “offense is what matters in a short series”
  16. I think Varsho was probably barely on the table How many times have we seen a player with four years of control left, coming off a 4.6 WAR season, traded for one prospect and a compliment? Never?
  17. Hitting is harder does not = Hitting is more important It just means everybody’s offensive production goes down a bit My brother in Christ and Allah and all that is holy you are dumb
  18. Lol you definitely have a free pass to tell spanks to blow you all you want
  19. I guess teams are scared of his health questions
  20. Things that get more important in the playoffs: Front end pitching (because you shorten the rotation) Elite relievers (because you shrink the pen) Certain bench specialists (like pinch runners. Useless in the regular season but in certain playoff roster constructions they make sense)
  21. You say this all the time but it’s completely made up. There is nothing to show that once the playoffs start all of a sudden offense is relatively more important.
  22. Position 2022 2023 (Delta) C Kirk/Jansen = Kirk/Jansen (0) 1B Vlad = Vlad (0) 3B Chapman = Chapman (0) SS Bo = Bo (0) 2B Biggio/Espinal/Katoh < Biggio/Espinal/Merrifield/Barger (+1) [deeper] LF Gurriel << Varsho (+2) CF Springer >> Kiermaier (-2.5) RF Teoscar < Springer (+1.5) 4th OF Tapia < Merrifield (+0.5) SP 2022 = SP 2023 RP 2022 = RP 2023 I think the rotation and pen are slightly better+deeper going into 2023 but that's splitting hairs. Like, Ryu pre-2022 would project like Bassitt pre-2023 but Bassitt is not that kind of injury risk so that's an upgrade but seems cheap to account for it. So I think they might be 2 or 2.5 wins better, on balance. But I think the improvements can be described in different terms. I think they have built a more diverse team that should be more resilient to bad luck or negative events. Should be more consistent?
  23. Sure but he is being specifically asked not to now
