Cleveland drafts College guys with good command and spin, and they teach them to throw harder.
They are forced to be good at a niche like this because they have no money.
In Toronto they have money so they have not been forced to be good at anything in particular. So they have no niche. And they aren't great at spending money.
The average fastball from a RHP is like 94+ now
So a low 90s sinker will tend to have below average velo, and movement the modern models do not love.
A lot of mediocre sinkers should just never be thrown, you're right.
Bassitt's sinker in 2022 was actually pretty good. You take a 98 Pitching+ on it all day because it can set up all his other pitches.
But... there might be some model bias against sinkers. They do have some functions that perhaps are not properly appreciated by the models.
63 Stuff+ on Bassitt's sinker last game
He threw it more than any other pitch, by far (40%)
He had a 96 Stuff+ on it last year
what the f*** happened yesterday!?
2022 Bassitt on the year, all pitches combined:
98 Stuff+ and 102 Location+
Bassitt yesterday:
77 Stuff+ and 97 Location+
I don't want to get my hopes up too high for Francis but even if he is just a fringe SP5 candidate and someone to compete with Mitch White, that means a lot.
It's like... the game doesn't want any of us to be fans or something.
Manoah sucks
Team walks 14 times and doesn't score
Bassitt has the 3rd worst start in Jays history and is probably worse than Tanner Roark
I am in so much pain
Pretty gross outlook going forward
they need to get lucky and have several of Pearson, Tiedemann, Zulueta, Robberse, Barriera, Macko etc. turn into quality MLB players over the next two years.
How about remove the extra runner
But the managers can go from the top of the lineup in every inning of extra innings if they want
it would almost be like a shootout
just the best hitters leading off, over and over
Springer Bo Vlad in the 10th
Springer Bo Vlad in the 11th
hahaha
I fully support the cops/security spearing any trespassers onto the field as violently as possible.
Ideally, anyone who steps onto the field ends up with whiplash AT THE LEAST. Cervical damage is warranted.
