The Habs need and deserve him more than any of these other s***** teams, lol. Toews and Kane f***ing suck now. Hopefully no stupid GM overpays for them. f*** the Blackhawks.
  2. Yeah, I think so. The pros and cons kind of cancel out. Devers better defensive value, Vlad better projected bat. Similar total package upside between them. Both kind of fall in the same bucket as "good hitting young fatties", Devers probably not being thought of as a 3B in his 30s at all. Devers was set the reach FA before what would be his age 27 season. Vlad on track for the same FA timeline. They bought 10 of his FA years. Vlad being 3 years away from FA means it should cost a bit less to do a similar thing for him. More risk in buying out 10 FA years when those don't even begin for 3 seasons.
  3. I think Miley is mince meat if you look at his 2022 injuries - neck strain end of 2021, and was delayed to start 2022 - elbow inflammation April, DL - shoulder strain May, DL - shoulder strain June, DL - shoulder injury setback while on DL in August - oblique issue September, avoided DL but didn't start like... this guy is f***ed right
  4. career 4.13 ERA 4.10 FIP 4.06 xFIP
  5. Tons of decent guys I could trade Profar Pham Blackmon Laureano Merrifield Renfroe Daniel Lynch Dean Kremer Kyle Hendricks Bryan De La Cruz JJ Bleday Brandon Hughes (penciled in as Cubs closer) Dylan Floro (penciled in as Marlins closer) Could trade one of Sal Perez or Logan O'Hoppe too I guess. But leaning towards keeping both into 2023. Waino, Taillon, Stroman, Bradish are also in the willing to discuss category. Remain willing to discuss one of Machado or Jose Ramirez as well, in a blockbuster. Many (not all) of the above names could be had for picks, pick upgrades, or prospect upgrades. The main roster thing I would want is a good 2B.
  6. You actually CAN screw up with minor league deals because you only get so many If you bring in a guy like Touki then all other candidates think of themselves as potentially one spot lower on the depth chart, and are less likely to go to Buffalo So you still need to make good minor league signings! IIRC the minor league guys last year that Toronto signed were Biagini, Jose De Leon, and Derek Holland. Well the major league team got nothing from them, not even a s***** spot start! It did kind of hurt.
  7. I dunno, dinger got bored of it then boxcar and I got in too many political debates behind the scenes
  8. All the Jays podcasts suck I only listen to Rates and Barrels and the other one Eno goes on sometimes
  9. there is a measurement issue with defensive metrics but that does not necessarily mean player talent is inconsistent
  10. It's just another one of this tiny little considerations in baseball. But baseball is full of things like that.
  11. There is also a consistency argument Which I don't think is a particularly strong argument But it goes something like - offense comes in bunches (against bad teams/pitchers) but defense is consistent.
  12. common sense says your mom dropped you on your head multiple times
  13. It's common sense. Think of extreme examples. If you score 100 runs and give up 0 runs, you will never lose. If you score 10100 runs but give up 10000 you will be almost .500
  14. We should also reasonably expect some positive defensive regression from Bo. I really don't think he's as bad as UZR/DRS said he was in 2022.
  15. They are good but it's a bit of a stars and scrubs situation. As usual. Painter is the same prospect as Tiedemann, basically, so I would be hesitant to adjust the Phillies rankings at all just because he exists. Too young, too little experience.
  16. Autopick is annoying / bad for various reasons We always just skip and halve future windows
  17. not displayed anywhere on Fangraphs as far as I know I can find runs per game 1. braves 4.66 2. padres 4.64 3. astros 4.64 4. blue jays 4.62 5. dodgers 4.61
  18. Jays rank #3 in projected WAR from position players behind only the Mets and Padres. That includes defense of course, but still.
  19. lol connorp your memory is even s***
  20. what are you talking about? who would have seriously suggested that Biggio has big value? that makes no sense people were talking about trading them a catcher for SP
  21. Devon Travis was in the news recently. Younger brother is a college football star I think?
  22. This is a better take than people will give you credit for It’s how these things work. You accumulate quality depth and good things happen. Maybe some guys will come “out of nowhere” and be elite relievers for Toronto. But they won’t really be out of nowhere.
