What do you mean? Samsonov played the bulk of the minutes and his GAA/SV% track with the team's goals allowed ranking. Toronto was 7th in GA but functionally tied with 11th place Vegas (five goal difference). I don't think Toronto was a "top 5" defensive team unless you are looking at some fancy stat. Boston was #1 and then there are like 10 teams basically tied in that second tier.

To me, Nylander just seems like the least talented all things considered. I don't know what the fancy stats say about Marner and Matthews but I could see them being, or at least having the capacity of becoming, better two-way players than Nylander. I dunno.

Fools gold. Most "elite" NHL goalies are just the byproduct of the elite defense in front of them. Very few exceptions.
  4. It reads like punishment I wonder if Contreras got into a tit for tat with Wainwright or something like that
  5. I could buy that he is a below average catcher or that he is not amazing at the hard to quantify catchery leadership stuff. But bad at it to the point that he needs to be removed from the position? It's just so weird. And it doesn't seem like a sensible way to get a positive response from the player
  6. It's also just quite clearly ******** They have been rolling with Jake Woodford (swingman with 4.75 career FIP), Jack Flaherty (4.97 FIP in 2022) and Steven Matz (5.25 ERA in 2022) 3/5 of the time. You can't put those three SP behind two mid-rotation pitchers and expect success. Mikolas has been bad but his K and BB numbers look fine, so I think it's just noise. Montgomery has been good. It's a dogshit rotation and the GM should be embarrassed.
  7. I find it hard to believe that he is THAT bad If he is, why the f*** would they sign him...
  8. This is so bizarre

but what do you do? they are kind of married to their core i always thought they should have let Nylander walk
  10. Hard to believe he has zero walks. Seems like he has been all over the place. I think it's very hard for an MLB RP to be very good in 2023 while throwing 75% fastballs. I'd love to see the slider show up as a usable/effective pitch.
  11. I kind of doubt that he is throwing 6 distinct pitches immediately after TJS. His old scouting reports don't mention a sinker or cutter. Kind of think these are just misclassifications or inconsistency on his FB or SL
  12. It's funny. Make smart posts for a long time and people start to sort of respect you. You should try it
  13. You can do most of what they did without being horrible for years. Yeah, you are never drafting a Jackson Holliday but... Gunnar Henderson was picked 42nd overall. Grayson was 11th. And you can try to sign the international version of Jackson Holliday still...
  14. That's the only advantage Toronto has and it's short term. Baltimore chose not to invest in the big club this year so their MLB talent didn't project as well as Toronto's for 2023. If/when Baltimore doubles that payroll... yikes.
  15. Even if you only look at the infield... Baltimore is so far ahead of Toronto that it's terrifying. Gunnar Henderson Jackson Holliday Jordan Westburg Joey Ortiz Coby Mayo Connor Norby And Mateo, Urias, and Frazier who are all playing well on the big club. And it's a similar story in the Outfield and for Pitching. Toronto's infield depth is horrendous in comparison. Bo for a few years, Chapman and Merrifield on walk years, then two useless MLB players in Biggio and Espinal plus the dying hope that was Addison Barger. There is basically nobody else coming. Baltimore has like two Addison Bargers and three prospects better than him.
  16. Shut down with a forearm strain in spring Early May it has now devolved into a degenerative back issue Hahaha
  17. League average ERA is like 4.30 now. I'd take a 4.30 from Bassitt if it comes with 6 innings most of the time.
  18. I'd support it. Atkins is mid. Shapiro is the GOAT but Atkins can be improved upon.
  19. I guess not. Kiriloff might be a bust and Soderstrom will probably only be playable at C
  20. I'd probably give the edge to Bradley since he has already debuted and the stuff clearly plays CES's low walk rates and moderate K rates make him seem sort of risky. Might be more of a .250/.300/.480 hitter or something like that.
  21. Yeah if Belt looks like this in 2-3 weeks it has to be over.
  22. Mitch White was a pretty interesting commodity when he was on the cusp and breaking into the league. His stuff numbers graded well and he held his own and the Dodgers had a track record for producing those kinds of pitchers. You need to at least understand that as Toronto Blue Jays fans we have only ever seen the absolute worst of Mitch White. And a sample size of suck that borders on meaningless. The trade looks horrible right now but there is still a chance that White is who Toronto thought he was (a viable MLB SP of some caliber) and Frasso is less than that. I guess the outside information that makes people less confident is that this FO does not really have a good track record at identifying and acquiring pitchers like this. Trent Thornton didn't stick, Anthony Kay couldn't figure it out, Thomas Hatch hasn't been able to figure it out... Bowden Francis still has a chance but he was horrendous in AAA last year... Ross Stripling is kind of the only success story when it comes to bringing in a depth SP. And he even sucked for Toronto at first and the credit for Ross Stripling being good for Toronto probably should go to Ross Stripling more than anybody.
