  1. Yeah it's ******** Literally JS made the call. But if Atkins was being honest he would add something like "ultimately the structures in place that lead to John making that decision were put in place or the responsibility of myself". I also hated what he seemed to be saying about the front office being some kind of hands off observer once the season gets in motion.
  2. Atkins basically said they just make sure the Manager has all the data but the front office has no direct involvement in tactics. That seems problematic. But it also has to just be a bit of a lie. Like one of the pieces of "data" is probably a nerd memo outlining possible tactics. I dunno. Weird s***.
  3. Jim Bowden is a f***ing meathead We all know exactly how this decision was made. The front office discussed the tactics at length. They laid out the justification to Schneider and impressed upon him why it made sense. He probably agreed with them. Then the specifics of when exactly to pull the trigger are obviously up to JS. It would not have been "here is an idea John. Take it or leave it" It would be more like "here is what we think the optimal approach and gameplan is."
  4. Nobody knows King fractured his elbow while pitching last year. Two years before he had a "stress reaction" in his elbow. The fractured elbow is a rare/freak injury and it makes me think he is fragile and/or has risky mechanics. May had TJS and then had to have revisionary TJS. Baz I think just has the one TJS. I feel like Baz is slightly cleaner but the other two are as risky as it gets.
  5. Oof. Another nail in the coffin of the old school Ace. 170 IP is the new 200 IP
  6. Mentor Vlad, lol. They would probably never talk. That's like asking KD Lang to mentor Lizzo
  7. He's 40. He will never be fully healthy again
  8. 100% I mean, unless he gets hurt next year
  9. God no. I'd rather bring Belt back.
  10. Well the Rays just throw caution to the wind on pitching. They bring in guys with nightmare mechanics. Glass cannons all around. Same could be said for some of these other teams you mentioned. Miami has a farm producing all these fireballers but those prospects have risks. Toronto intentionally acquired veterans with track records of health and clean mechanics. The M's had a similar year to Toronto. For the most part they only had one rotation spot in flux. Castillo, Gilbert, and Kirby all made 30+ starts. Miller made 25 starts. The hole was Robbie Ray and Bryan Woo ended up stabilizing that. So, one major injury, much like Toronto's one "big health problem".
  11. I am so f***ing mad at the world reading these stats. Matt Chapman had like 10 HR stolen from him this year due to some combination of bad luck and an approach that doesn't maximize home runs. Maybe more than 10 HR. His spray chart on statcast has multiple blue "double" dots that are well over the average MLB of fence, lmao. 100th percentile hard hit rate with 98th percentile barrel rate and 98th percentile MaxEv equaling 17 HR in 581 PA is nothing but a constant bicycle kick in the nuts Can they uhhhhhhh lower the outfield walls a bit? They turned RC into Kauffman Stadium
  12. If his market doesn't develop it might be his only decent option.
  13. Getting moved to another role in the organization is the ultimate form of baseball front office cuckoldry. Ross, go sit in the corner and watch James have a turn.
  14. I dunno about that. If Shapiro was going to axe him or ask him to commit seppuku then would he do this media bit?
  15. Really no interest at all in Belt again Don't need a guy who strains his back 4x per year then takes a week every time to find his swing and is just a coinflip to be healthy and helpful come crunch time.
  16. I mean the part of this that makes a trade easier to find is that we all agree that Vlad does not have huge value right now. Here is a package that is literally worth Vlad right now: 29 year old reliever Steven Wilson and a 19 year old A ball outfield prospect you have never heard of in Samuel Zavala
  17. Why do people keep saying the Jays had this "best possible SP health year ever, so lucky, what a waste" when: - 2022's Ace fell victim to morbid obesity and went from 4+ WAR to negative WAR - one of the AA era teams also had impeccable pitching health - the 2023 SP roster was specifically and intentionally constructed to stay healthy! they brought in or bought specific pitchers for that reason
  18. Options are also relevant here. Is Richards the only one out of options? They can probably find a trade partner for Richards. Some team like Arizona. Their pen is mostly waiver wire fodder and replacement level youngsters.
  19. Mostly no brainers But they could explore trades of many of them.
  20. No, but they are probably thinking things like: - man that Daulton Varsho is a nice guy and good outfielder but he's f***ing hopeless with the stick - I can't believe that they make baseball players as dumb as Vladdy - maybe I should call Driveline this offseason and rethink this hitting approach that Don Mattingly had us all buy into in spring - it's going to be awkward as f*** if Manoah is still with the team in spring
  21. Well, personally I'd just shoot for upside and keep Baz and King. May's K rate has always been disappointing and you can replace a guy with Bello's numbers in most leagues.
  22. Baz - King - May ----- Bello But you can't assume health for these guys! Michael King had a broken elbow pitching. He's a massive injury risk. Dustin May is on the ropes as a SP with his injury history. Bello is the worse talent but might end up being the best fantasy asset if he can just stay healthy. He's alright.
  23. We are being tarred and feathered for defending the Atkins diet
  24. Twins I guess! - can't root for the shitbirds - can't root for Texas - can't root for the Astros organization (cheaters) I would not mind any of the NL teams winning though. No objections to any of those four. LAD/ATL both "deserve" to win, Arizona is fun, and the Phillies are kind of fun in a stupid way.
  25. The free agent pile f***ing sucks. I guess it's probably just not the offseason to get cute like this. The trade would need to specifically bring in an MLB bat with decent projections, I think, which makes it hard to pull off. I'm sure Atkins will explore it though. Did you know that Toronto had 3 of the 6 top free agent bats by 2023 fWAR? Ohtani, Chapman, Candelario, Belt, Heyward, Kiermaier, JDM, Garver, Gurriel Jr., Duvall, Pham, Teoscar. This is a really bad top of the board. Other than Ohtani, I'm not sure I want anybody unless they are signing a cute little one year deal or pillow contract. Toronto might end up doing something like giving JDM the Brandon Belt deal.
