    One year $5M and a gentleman's agreement to spend most of the year on the IL. Pick up a few strings of starts as required. Convert to relief in September if all the SP are healthy/good. Basically a mascot and depth option. tbh I think he's cooked in terms of talent. replacement level arm now

    Westburg partially torn UCL They are not doing surgery right away. He had a PRP injection. Will miss at least all of April. This is probably the correct approach for a position player. I think the recovery is more like 7-9 months. So surgery now and he misses all of 2026 but surgery in May or June and the result is similar and he might be back for 2027 in full. Not sure what the position player recovery track record is for UCL tears that don't go under the knife.

    Manfred would need to lose a World Series and turn a blind eye to a steroid level problem and collude to help Rogers move the Blue Jays to Memphis to be as bad as Bud Selig who is the only person to compare him to so it is hard for him to look bad

    It is an imperfect roster construction now no matter how you slice it (even though every team has similar imperfections.) There are FIVE starting players who you may want to platoon in Gimenez, Sanchez, Clement, Barger, and Varsho, and of course you cannot platoon them all and given the current roster you can really only sensibly platoon Sanchez, so you have to hope Barger figures out lefties.

    Gallen agreed to $14m being heavily deferred so he lost millions and should have taken the QO I was shocked he turned it down. Was brutal last year and his stuff is down big. Poor decision, poorly advised.

    Boring move but it raises the floor and the ceiling a bit. It mostly bumps Lukes to the bench which is a lateral move on paper given some projections, but Lukes has big error bars on his projections and they might mostly point down given his age and profile. Like, he's not going to hit .300 and be a 3 win LF. Sanchez has 2000 MLB PA so his projections are way more solid. And he is younger with a more interesting profile under the hood, so the error bars on his projections might point up. He could be a 3 WAR slugger. Or he could be worth 2 WAR while platooning (probably the goal). You feel much better as a team if the Lukes platoon is your plan B and not your plan A.

    It's sad for him how it is going but the projections are down hard on him and for good reason so it is what it is

    Getting tunnel vision and caring about "offense" is how the team made the Santander mistake signing to begin with They shouldn't care about the "offense" they should care about wins, or run differential. It seems like they know this now. I bet Atkins is privately relieved that Santander is out because the team projects better without him LOL it's sad but true. Lukes/Schneider platoon is probably better than Tony Titties on both sides of the ball.
