Tyler O'Neill when you have 6 incumbent outfielders? Five prospects for Shane Baz + extending him when you could have just spent money on Cease or something like that instead of Alonso?

    "tag attempt" needs to be interpreted as simply running at a player between the bases though, IMO I don't think that it should or needs to be defined as actually extending your arm and trying to slap someone. That leads to somewhat absurd possibilities. Theoretically. "tag attempt" is not defined in the rules

    Anyway, I read that rule and I feel like the best interpretation of it should be that as soon as Henderson had the ball and moved towards Ernie the basepath was established. In other words, Ernie clearly went too far and should have been called out lmao.

    One cool thing about social media algorithms is that if you click stuff you get more of that stuff So if you read tweets from salty Baltimore fans, you get to read more and more for days They are crashing out about this call and there was an article yesterday that they were all parading around as a gotcha moment where supposedly an anonymous source from MLB confirmed that MLB called the umps and told them they got this call wrong

    HR/FB rate takes like 400 flyballs to stabilize Hoffman's career rate is 14.5% with 600+ flyballs but that includes pitching exclusively in bandbox stadiums and Coors Field, up until Toronto. He should be closer to 13% going forward. xFIP will win eventually. I love Jeff Hoffman

    Funny how hard / impossible scouting or prospecting is. Brandon Valenzuela wasn't cracking a 100 wRC+ in the upper minors from ages 23-25. You would project him for an MLB wRC+ in the 70s. He was universally described as a good defender but someone with a fringe hit tool. A backup C prospect. But when you read the Baseball America report from before 2026, you can see the nuggets of gold: I mean... advanced approach with close to average power, average exit velos, and good launch angles? On a catcher? This is kind of exactly where hit tool scouting fails. Nobody graded his plate approach. They should probably have been putting a 50 on his power. His minor league MaxEVs should have supported that. I mean his MaxEV in the big leagues is like, upper third percentile All of that being said, he

    I think I drafted Luis Lara in the LOD a few years ago but dropped him after one year. Because he had a 94 wRC+ in the minors.

    Gimenez was 95th percentile sprint speed a few years ago, now he is 65th. Speed is gone. Not coming back. Sadness. That is a small part of why his hitting is down as well. He was probably able to beat out a dozen infield hits a year when he was 23 that just aren't happening now.

    Yeah but it's not going to happen. Traditionally Cease hasn't been one to go deep into games. Bieber won't be healthy enough to. Gausman might spin up some long outings. Just need the offense to wake up so there are some comfortable wins, for once.

    I think the hard lesson that the 2026 Blue Jays are learning is that you can never count on defense when guys are on the other side of the aging curve. Varsho is almost 30, Lukes is almost 32, Clement is 30, straw is almost 32. They may not have modeled enough defensive decline in for these guys when they decided to ignore defense and bring in Sanchez + take a defensive risk on Okamoto. It's tough because of the above. He's a horrendous hitter and there are no signs of improvement but the team has put themself in a position where they need his glove in there every day.
