  1. Just so sad that Canada has to go straight from 5 great innings from someone who is (sort of) an MLB SP to a relief appearance by a guy who has never touched AAA. It is definitely some sort of organizational / program failure to be so unable to get the pitching depth to come participate. Even if this was just Zach Pop here. Or Romano. Or Sabrowski.
  2. This Indigo guy was okay before right?
  3. Well, there goes the JPPL Ace. I guess that's as good as Canada could have reasonably hoped for against a quality SP. He gave up a run and didn't carve them up for 5 innings. Should have had another run or two though.
  4. lol Yesavage finally pitched, in a sim game against Jays minor leaguers, and got rocked. two walks and two homers. 35 pitches
  5. This game is setting up perfectly for Aumont or Paxton to be trusted with a leverage inning and serve up a game losing 2 or 3 run homer.
  6. pitch was two inches inside but he strong
  7. c'mon Caissie pick up this run...
  8. Josh Naylor is not Captaining very well
  9. obviously really bad game prep and coaching going on here
  10. working the pitch count at least...
  11. Tyler O'Neill can move to Alaska
  12. So they've moved Lopez to leadoff and Matt Davidson gets the start. Julien dropped to 9th. 4 lefties still.
  13. lol f*** so this Cuban pitcher has been the best SP in Japan for two straight years? woof. literally the SP ERA champ for 2024 and 2025 after transitioning to being a SP Canada is f***ed?
  14. Ah right. I was looking at an old schedule that for some reason had the QF matchups wrong. I guess PR is no better than Canada. On paper Cuba is worse than both, I guess, so if they win this afternoon ITA or MEX could have a preference to face Cuba. The other weird thing is that I don't think the Pool winners/runners up for A and B even have schedules QF games yet because the WBC will wait to see who advances to even do that. Because they don't want USA to potentially face Japan in the semis. lol. They will put them on the other side regardless of their pool placement.
  15. I am not so sure. Italy and Mexico both seem to have mixed incentives. Obviously, collusion towards a Mexico 3-2 win prevents the USA from moving on so both teams benefit from being in the Quarterfinals with one of the WBC favourites out of it. However, does that result give Mexico the Pool? Because then they would play the #2 team from the DR/Venezuela pool which will likely be Venezuela which is a way better matchup for anybody than the DR. Venezuela is a good team but they don't have Julio Rodriguez hitting freaking 7th. So assuming DR beats Ven tonight - and you have to assume they are heavy favourites - Italy and Mexico should both want to just play to win this evening.
  16. I died of cringe when Paul Skenes said his thing about always wanting to join the military but this felt similar and filled his void or whatever Meanwhile, the Japanese fans are giving standing ovations to a random Czech pitcher And then of course the extra cringe from their being an actual war and none of these morons reading the room properly
  17. Weird spot for Canada, eh? Tonight doesn't really matter unless you want to entertain the pie in the sky idea of going 3-1 and winning the entire pool If they beat PR but lose to Cuba, I'll cry Should be able to dispose of Cuba, on paper the offenses should not be close at all
  18. Canada doesn't deserve it but having to simply beat Cuba or PR to advance seems fine by me
  19. You'd think so. Guys like Mitch Bratt. Who knows how many were asked. The Aumont and Paxton things are weird. Canada should not be that desperate. I'd rather have just about any active professional. Like, Matt Wilkinson throws 90 but with good shape and he looked effective for his two batters yesterday. Paxton had enough velo but no command, just rust. https://www.canadianbaseballnetwork.com/canadian-baseball-network-canadians-in-the-minors
  20. Hilarious loss Naylor with the worst error you can make Why did Paxton cut the throw anyway? Woof
  21. Scherzer is a bit more interesting to me after seeing how in shape his stuff was, and how built up he already is. It's not vintage Scherzer but it might be a tick better than we saw most of last year.
  22. Wait why is a 91.5 mph 4 seamer getting a 102 Stuff number? That makes no sense
