Until he proved he was a borderline elite reliever. His method of acquisition doesn't effect his current value.

I think if you polled the forum before tonight asking if they'd move Hendriks for Chavez the vast majority would say no. It could end well, but it's decidedly unsexy.

Yeah, weird that he fell off the map after 2012. Also funny that the team's transaction page has updated the Chavez trade but has nothing about the apparent Humberto Quintero signing.

Villanueva was who came to mind. When I mentioned an extension I was thinking something like 5/7/7 with an option or something tacked on to the end. A guaranteed 15M after this year could be pretty enticing for a guy who has never started a full season.

You think it costs 2/20 to buy out his first two free agent years? A few million less would make be a lot more comfortable.

Chavez is only entering his age-32 season. I wonder of the team tries to get him on a multi-year extension. Hendriks is a tough piece to give up though. 4 years of a very good reliever, or possibly a good starter. My first thought is that I don't love this, but if Chavez signs away some free agent years for a reasonable price it could turn out well.
