  1. Two years younger and game not completely reliant on his legs. I like Pillar, but it's hard to see him maintain his effectiveness as he gets to 30+ years old. Not a lot of guys with his skill set are able to make it work long term.
  2. Relying on pen arms and below-average hitting outfielders multiple years into the future is pretty dubious. Health permitting, I think Travis is probably a building block going forward. Osuna and Pillar probably don't move the needle when management sets out a long-term plan.
  3. http://www.fangraphs.com/fantasy/is-a-j-pollock-a-top-pick/
  4. Established pieces under control for 2018: Donaldson (31) Martin (35) Tulowitzki (33) Travis Stroman Two of those guys are on deals that will likely be bad at the time, and one will be entering his last year of control. Maintaining a 90-win roster for the next 3-4 years isn't impossible, but it's going to be very difficult on a <150M payroll. Adding an 8/210 pitching contract to this seems like a very bad idea.
  5. The problem with Thames is that he's an atrocious defender. Like Colabello bad. I don't think he's ever really played 1B, so you're looking at gambling money on a DH.
  6. The issue is that this roster isn't really built to contend long term, and Toronto fans have shown that they won't come out to see a team that's 0.500 or worse. The absolute last thing they need two years from now is a re-tooling team that owes 150$M to a guy they can't move.
  7. Apparently Karns or Elias for Ozuna. That makes more sense than Walker.
  8. Paxton seems more fair.
  9. So the Angels don't make an offer to Ianetta, then give Soto $3M?
  10. Tommy Kahnle traded to the White Sox for Yency Almonte
  11. Iannetta is better than Navarro.
  12. No. It will take a ~4 year track record of incompetence.
  13. I rostered him in an NA spot for like 3 months hoping he'd get a real chance, but he never did.
  14. Please don't mention Reza Aslan on this forum.
  15. The last time he packaged three similar arms he ended up with deGrom, so you can't blame him for trying.
  16. Maeda has asked to be posted. Would be an absolutely perfect signing.
  17. Can someone explain how catsass has an awful farm even though he just torn down a borderline top-5 roster last year?
  18. jaysblue should really offer you something for at least Uehara. His team is built to contend now, and his only keeper reliever is Vizcaino, who is probably a bottom-5 closer.
  19. He definitely wouldn't get past 11.
  20. Sucks that Uehara is a setup man. A likely 1-year setup man rental is a tough sell pre-cut.
  21. Kevin Kiermaier is so hot right now
  22. http://www.hardballtimes.com/re-examining-wars-defensive-spectrum/ I missed this until it was discussed in a more recent article. Jeff Zimmerman has re-calculated Tom Tango's positional adjustments, and his numbers look a fair bit different than Tango's, with DH and 1B being particularly undervalued, maybe. Oakland's Billy Butler signing probably reflects internal work with a similar conclusion. I wonder if fangraphs will end up adjusting their fWAR. Greenwood: this would be an appropriate time for you to talk about Colabello.
  23. Is it really worse than 'wow, Amaro got destroyed in that deal'? destruction = murder < rape
  24. Chocolate Thunder lol
