  1. Don't know much about him, but was he still working for the team at 90?
  2. You got this, even if Trout is merely mortal again this week.
  3. Hey TCA, please take out your opponent this week. Thx.
  4. Wow, I hadn't really been keeping tabs on Jose Abreu, but I knew he had warmed up a bit after a very bad start. He's now slashing 302/353/556 with a 138 wRC+ and he's also going to go 35/95/100. I'm happy he turned it around for you z3r0s. I feel bad for you when you made your win-now trade and then Eaton died and Abreu stumbled out of the gate.
  5. Semis: Burlingtonbandit vs. The Drunks L54 vs. BTS
  6. You won the regular season matchup, so you get the W in the series.
  7. A Jason Vargas win is going to win me this series. How fitting.
  8. Well jaysblue, it should actually be a pretty close finish. I wish you nothing but the worst luck this weekend.
  9. My boy. I haven't been this stoked about a DDL prospect since... Xander Bogaerts
  10. Yes. I don't believe in holding relievers unless you're a championship contender. He'd bring back at least a blue chip prospect + lesser pieces, and I'd absolutely sell before his arm has a chance to fall off.
  11. Acuna. He just did better things at AAA at 19 than Robles did at AA at 20, and you have to dream less on his power. I like Robles a lot though. Possibly be a 7-cat contributing monster.
  12. I don't know about that. The supporting cast isn't very good. Offensively you've got three players you'd expect to be about league average next year (Martin, Smoak, Pillar), and the pitching staff is Happ, Osuna, and Stroman that you'd expect to be average or better. I agree with Jim that this team likely looks a lot like the Angels of the last few years even if Donaldson puts up a 7-win season.
  13. All of this talk has me wondering about a different scenario: what would happen if a team had a player set to retire after the season, say David Ortiz, and missed the playoffs after a late season collapse? Would he be prevented from dropping Ortiz in September? Personally I'd hold so as not to throw someone like that into a playoff team's lap, but what if the owner were inclined to drop him for a waiver add?
  14. That's probably the most valid issue. I guess I didn't really see it as new rules, because I've literally been assuming for years that eliminated teams were free to make trades but didn't, because why make deals when probably half the league or more won't listen?
  15. Thanks to your sneaky dealings for two new roster spots you can claim both without worrying about which of Jason Vargas, Adam Morgan, or Marc Rzepczynski to drop.
  16. Thinking of putting in a claim with one of the two empty roster spots I'm sitting on. Tough call now though. I can't make a trade to acquire the (apparently) much-coveted free roster spot, so I might have to drop Alex Claudio if something else comes up. Or Ryan Buchter. Or Mike Foltynewicz. Or Antonio Senzatela. Or Jharel Cotton. If only I could make a trade to free up a spot for waiver wire adds.
  17. I also don't really think the 'created roster spot' argument holds any water, because a) where one team gains two spots, the team they're trading with loses two, so it's zero-sum in terms of teams rostering waiver trash, and every eliminated already team has multiple guys they'd drop in a second if they saw something of any interest on the waiver wire. Dinger has at least 5 guys with zero chance at having offseason value that he could have dropped if he saw something he liked. These two new spots hold no value to him. The strong reaction people are having to this seems equal parts visceral "I don't like this because it feels like it might be a problem", and butthurt because teams with nothing to do are making deals and playoff teams feel like everything should pause so they don't miss out. I'll reiterate that I don't really care, because I can't really be bothered to talk trade right now, but I just don't understand the opposition, at all.
  18. I have no dog in this fight and don't care about the outcome beyond not really thinking that issues people have stated make any sense, but in real sports (NHL and MLB anyway) teams are free to make trades at any time. The trade deadline is strictly about playoff roster eligibility. They typically don't make trades, because as njh said it's stupid to make a deal when most teams aren't in trade mode, but they are allowed.
  19. How did these shitbags manage to get struck out 9 times by Doug Fister? 9 times!
  20. Dinger is just going to pick up two guys of equal value to Hernandez and Joseph, or whoever it was P2F dropped, though. When the dust settles, there's no net change in available waiver wire trash.
  21. Guys, Dinger is currently rostering Jose Reyes, Cam Rupp, Adam Morgan, Marc Rzepczynski, Jaime Garcia, and Jason Vargas. The idea that he's going to extract value from two more roster spots with which to chase keepers is kind of absurd. He already has 5-6.
  22. There are exactly as many roster spots available as there were before the trade. Why does it matter to you if P2F and Dinger agree to a trade that moves two roster spots to Dinger instead of them staying with P2F?
  23. They're all fair deals I think.
  24. I think I like the Lamb and Bundy sides, and have no opinion on the third.
