  1. I would love to see some old-school pitching duels, and less bullpen games. I'd love to see Kershaw vs. Sale/Price take a scoreless game into the 8th or something. Really happy Milwaukee lost for that reason.
  2. Based on almost no information, I was least excited about David Bell, but he's off the board. Still hoping for Baldelli, with no real reason why.
  3. Feels good to be able to respect Chris Sale again
  4. Holy s*** Puig
  5. Sale has a belly button ring?
  6. The hypothetical being talked about works out to: Martin Vs. Maile $4M in extra cash two prospects who would be 20-30 in our system It’s at least a toss-up as to which scenario is better for the team. You have to place like 10M on Martin’s intangibles to prefer him, because he’s probably not better on the field than Maile at this point.
  7. It’s not that simple though. A good portion of that $15M is sunk cost.
  8. I get it. I just don’t think it’s as black and white as people are letting on. If Shatkins decided to give the backup spot to Maile or McGuire, save $5M, and pick up a low end prospect or two, I’d think that was a pretty reasonable choice all things considered. I also thinks it’s reasonable to just keep him.
  9. I don’t really understand it either. A lot of good posters are weirdly hostile to the idea.
  10. I kinda think people are being too hard on the idea of moving Martin and eating, say, $15M to pick up a couple of prospects. Let's say Houston offers to pay $5M of his salary while offering a couple of 21-year olds who would rank 20 and 30 in our system. I don't think it's an obvious "no", though I'd lean towards keeping him. It's at least a good enough offer to warrant a serious conversation with Martin about where he'd prefer to spend what might be his final year.
  11. It's not an unreasonable question. Until he put up a wRC+ close to 200 this year, Trout wasn't really a better hitter than Miggy or prime Pujols, and people fairly draw comps between Vlad those two guys. The realistic upside right now is very much "best hitter in baseball". I really hope he's not just here for 6 years. Toronto is a world lass city, and there's no reason why we can't enjoy this possible HoF career from beginning to end.
  12. It sucks that we're going to have to wait until like April 20th to see him next year. I want to see gaudy full-season numbers.
  13. That's an absurd statement though

Multiple goalies complaining that they're getting bruised stopping pucks with the new reduced pads. Great job, NHL.
  15. It's interesting, yes. But I don't see how it's controversial. The players respect who they respect.
  16. I actually kind of am TBH. Given that players are nominated for being respected by their teammates as a person, rather than as a player, I don't see how anyone can really question whether he's deserving of the nomination. I see it as a nice reminder that people are a lot more than their worst moments, and that none of us actually know these guys as people.
  17. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/jose-reyes-has-been-honored-for-his-off-field-behavior/ The fangraphs community is PISSED that Jose Reyes was voted by the players as the Mets nominee for the Marv Miller Man of the Year Award. Players voted for the player they “most respect based on his leadership on the field and in the community.” Apparently people are defined by one incident, and the players are wrong to hold high respect for Reyes.
  18. I hope it's Baldelli, for no other reason than that it would be cool.
  19. No retreads, and all 37-46 years old. Seems like a solid pool.

Matheson gets 2 games. Glad the NHL ruled that the play was over the line.
  21. I have some bats available for picks/prospects, or for pitching upgrades: Wilson Ramos Nick Williams Ramon Laureano CJ Cron Ji-Man Choi
  22. My last three DDL trades have been with Laika.
  23. Rodon, Kingery, and Woodruff to njh for Brantley, McHugh, and Cahill

As you say, the hit was fine. Matheson used his size and strength advantage to separate Pettersson from the puck and remove him from the play. What happened after was not fine: grabbing the shoulders of a player off balance from the hit and shoving him to the ice back first when he's not in a position to protect himself is a dangerous play, and the outcome (concussion) isn't really surprising. There's room for physical contact, but hockey is not a combat sport. Hopefully the NHL chooses to protect its stars. We'll see how the hearing goes today.
