There's a ton of overlap between BORED and DDL owners, so we're proposing rule changes that mirror the new DDL rules. I will now plagiarize njh: - We will have unregulated promotion and demotion from/to the MiLB roster (in Fantrax you can't demote unless they have a green flag; in Fantrax if an MiLB player loses their flag it does not lock your roster). - Waiver draft eligibility will be changed to only include prospects who played in AAA in the previous year (or a prior year). - Free agent eligibility will be changed to only include players with MLB service time. Players making their debut will be eligible to be added at 8PM EST on the day following their first active day on the 25 man roster. If desired, an owner can request before the 8PM EST eligibility time that a commissioner place a debuting player on "debut waivers." A commissioner who places a player on debut waivers has to announce it in this thread. There is no general obligation to use debut waivers, which is an accommodation for owners who can't compete for an 8PM EST add, but there is an obligation for commissioners to respond to requests for debut waivers. - The only time mandatory promotion thresholds will apply is at the February cut deadline. The thresholds have been increased to 1000 PA and 50 (GS + half of relief appearances). The point of this is to eliminate owners using the MiLB rosters as a loophole to keep an additional MLB player, if that player happened to have a green flag near the end of the season and was therefore able to be demoted. There are some minor things we'd probably have done a bit differently if the DDL didn't have these rules, but with so many owners participating in both leagues, I think it's best to just have one set of rules to remember when it comes to procedural stuff like this. As always, open for discussion.

I haven't seen data on this, but it seems like more fringe guys are choosing Korea and Japan over MiLB deals this year.

There's that option, but also using Villar as a super-utility type. We know he can play 2B and SS. Get him reps at 3B and OF too.

This trade seems like a heist for Milwaukee. I would have though Lauer was more valuable than Davies, and Urias more valuable than Grisham.

Yeah. I think baseball is healthier when more than a handful of teams are trying to win, and the entire offseason narrative isn't about teams not wanting to pay FAs. Hopefully it's more than just the Sox and Braves that spend aggressively to improve their teams.

IIRC all four FA signings so far have exceeded median FG crowdsourced projections. I like it.

I'm not sure I'm really understanding the opposition to Encarnacion on a 1-year deal at 10-14M. Payroll right now is projected at like 71M. The limiting factor in adding talent this offseason isn't going to be 2020 payroll space, it's going to be a lack of talented players that are willing to sign for terms that the FO is comfortable with. If Edwin is willing to sign, I think you happily take him on a 1-year deal. Who is he even taking plating time from? Rowdy Tellez? Tellez hasn't earned a full-time MLB job, and can still be optioned to AAA. IF he mashes there, he'l find his way back. I also don't care much for the idea of just rotating players through the DH spot. Average DH wRC+ last year was 110. The only hitter on the tam projected to be better than that is Vlad. If you're DHing the likes of Hernandez, Grichuk, McKinney, you're getting below average production. If any of the glut of league average (or worse) hitters we have need a day off, just give them a day off.

That's a paid option. Our current settings are all available via an unpaid league, so I don't think it would be worth it.

It also changes the dynamic of the waiver draft. I don't necessarily think it's a bad change, it it adds value to a typically shallow draft, but it does change things.

Like abom says, the only way to enforce the PA/AP thresholds would be periodic scans - as far as I'm aware there's no functionality for that in fantrax. Transactions aren't restricted if you have a player without a green flag on the farm, so nobody would be forced by the system to promote someone. They'd just be prevented from demoting a promoted prospect who is still in the majors in real life. BTW, I also periodically check farms in BORED and DDL. It takes a a minute or two. Generally we're obsessive enough about baseball to do a quick eye test for guys who are likely approaching the limits.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking too. If a player is on your farm past the thresholds you lose the player. But until they reach the thresholds you can move them back and forth as you please.
