They wouldn't be paying for the 6 regular season starts so much as they would be paying to have a legit ace in the ~70% likelihood that they make the playoffs. Ryu and Bauer starting 2 of 3 WC games and then 3 of 5 division series games makes the Jays competitive in the playoffs. I don't see Kloffenstein as the kind of prospect you balk at moving when the team is running very high playoff odds with a few weeks left and has Ryu healthy and throwing well. -

We had one for years. It descended into vitriolic flamewars and personal feuds that spilled over into every other thread and almost ruined the forum.

I don’t want to intervene, because the conversation has been respectful and mostly related to the MLB/NBA protests, but this isn’t the place to discuss the shooting.

This is probably too political, but the entire world has been talking about racial issues since George Floyd was killed. We’ve been moving in the direction of racial equality for many decades, and if anything is going to expedite that movement it’s the giant protests that have been all over the news for months. It’s very hard for me to accept that postponing a ball game today and instead playing a doubleheader tomorrow is going to result in meaningful change.

Normally I'm against giving up good prospects for rentals. But, this has been an average team this year that is almost certain to go to the playoffs. The most likely outcome is that they make the playoffs in 2020 and don't make the playoffs in 2021 when things go back to normal. It's very, very tempting to go pair Bauer with Ryu and go in guns blazing with maybe the best 1-2 starting pitching punch in baseball. I think I'd give up Kloffenstein for Bauer. -
Mazza vs. Ryu. Toronto/MLB should kindly tell the Red Sox to go f*** themselves.

He means that the Reds can offer Bauer the QO, and that the comp might be compelling if teams shy away from big rentals due to the expanded playoff field and corresponding reduced championship odds for top teams. -
Clevinger makes me nervous. To whatever extent he was getting by earlier this season, he was relying extensively on his off-speed stuff. His fastball was not effective, at all. It was a stark contrast to last season when his fastball was Hader-like, in that he used it a ton and generated tons of swinging strikes. He didn't look right at all in the starts he made this season. I'd be afraid of paying an ace price for a guy who isn't going to to come in and provide ace production this year. I also have no idea what I'm talking about, so there's that.

I kind of get it. Crosby is not getting traded, and Malkin is probably also a Penguins lifer, so they're going to run the ship into the ground until those two are finished. It's the NHL, so he might get lucky and win another Cup with a mediocre team.

I don't think anyone is unhappy. It's just a weird fit. Him and Tellez have exactly the same skill set. Maybe they see Vogelbach as a slight upgrade on Rowdy and are going to option Tellez?

Soto Acuna Tatis Vladdy Tatis and Acuna are virtually tied for me, and I don't think either will ever reach Soto, who is a young Pujols. Vlad is clearly 4th right now, but he could flip the switch at any time and reach the Acuna/Tatis level.
