So, at risk of SSS over reaction, Pompey looks like he has the potential to be a more well rounded player than Gose (3 tool player who can't hit) and a higher ceiling than Pillar (who seems to have no above average tools at all)
That said he likely starts 2015 in Buffalo, but has Pompey already passed Pillar on the depth chart?
It's tough because the SSS doesn't just apply to the majors, but at every level of the minors since he never stayed at one level more than a couple of months. We have full seasons of minor league hitting info on Gose and Pillar. Pompey kept hitting at every level, with power, on his way up. And the eye test is favorable - more power than Pillar, better plate coverage than Gose (faint praise I suppose, is there anyone with worse plate coverage than Gose?). Still need to temper expectations but... I'm excited to see what he can do and am glad they didn't trade him.
