  1. He and his dad always find plenty of excuses don't they?
  2. I put this in the Colby thread but should be here. Colby is obviously gone this year On a negative note, the Gose/Pillar platoon is not looking so good - neither have convinced me (over the past few weeks, and during their multiple prior callups) that they'll be able to provide even remotely acceptable plate performance even in a strict L/R platoon. 1. We HAVE to retain Melky or find someone as good for a similar price (good luck) 2. We may need to acquire a better 4th OF who bats right. I no longer think we can assume Pillar is even an adequate 4th OF at this point. Yes, he has only had 210 MLB PA, but I just don't see any skills that make me willing to be patient with him. He MIGHT still become an average MLB bat, but he might not. How long do we want to wait to see if that happens, and how many runs/games do we want to sacrifice with mediocre defense and high strikeouts in the meantime?

  4. Best guess: Mentally fragile, doesn't adapt well to changes in coaching staff, distracted/nervous/second guessing all the time.
  5. But can Stanton turn 1,000 balls in to strikes? Noooo So... Something
  6. Of those I think I'd only count on Cecil, Redmond, Loup and maybe Jenkins. Sanchez will be a starter. Nolin will be in AAA. Everyone else, yuck.
  7. Agreed. Though if you let all the BP guys walk (McGowan, Janssen, Santos, Morrow) you need to sign a couple to replace them. So a few $$ will be required.
  8. This was a no brainer though Now, kindly extend him for 3 years 37.5M

  10. I forgot Prado was under contract next year, oops Headley, Drew and Johson were the rentals getting tossed around
  11. He's the guy I wanted most at the time and yes, that package would have been beyond fine. But where would we be with Prado instead of Valencia? Still not in the playoff picture IYAM. Though no worse off except for a few bucks cause Francisco is done with us anyway I'm sure. Yes I wish he had made that deal. But I don't think it would have helped enough. Just IMHO.
  12. Valencia was a reasonably pickup (depending on what you though of Kratz). A solid right hand pen arm wasn't too much to ask. A starting pitcher like Lester/Shark was both enormously expensive and not even clearly necessary so I'm certainly glad he didn't do something crazy like that.
  13. Making a bigger acquisition at the time was still probably the right thing to do, but it wouldn't have worked out or helped our playoff chances enough to make a difference ultimately, so you're right in that sense. Yes, in retrospect, the Yankees wasted prospects trading for pickups that won't get them to the playoffs either. Some will say "at least they tried". Depends how you look at it I guess. YMMV All I know for sure is that I am VERY happy that we hung on to Hutch, Sanchez and Stroman
  14. Exactly How many times did we say last year "look at that thing carry!"
  15. Turner field was almost 10 years newer than the Rogers Centre Just sayin'
  16. ^ Good thing we got Valencia instead LOL
  17. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 45s Yankees just announced Martin Prado required an appendectomy.
  18. MLBTR: Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette looks at the extraordinary preparation and conditioning that have contributed to Russell Martin‘s brilliant season. Brink spoke to Martin’s coaches and teammates about what he means to the club, with GM Neal Huntington stating that the club is going to do everything it can to re-sign its catcher. Perhaps most interesting, however, is the fact that Brink notes that the Pirates offered Martin a two-year, $17MM deal and a three-year, $21MM deal when signing him prior to the 2013 season. Martin explains to Brink that he didn’t want to sign for three years, because he felt he could improve his stock on a two-year pact, which he has done in dramatic fashion. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pirates/2014/09/16/Money-in-the-bank-Pirates-catcher-Russell-Martin-s-exceptional-season/stories/201409160143
  19. The answer, in one snippet, for the TLDR folks: He has hit 45% fewer fly balls in 2014 compared to 2013 (when he had a ridiculously high flyball rate combioned with a ridiculously low popup rate)
  20. FanGraphs: Chris Davis, 2014: What Happened? http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/chris-davis-2014-what-happened/
  21. Yeah I'm gonna go work on a presentation and play Destiny Night
  22. True. True.
  23. Didn't strike out = making progress? LOL
