Absolutely. I'm sure glad we didn't sign Choo or Jimenez, even though I'll admit I wanted them last year. LOL

When you have one or two huge needs and have a reasonable budget you sometimes have to overpay a bit to fill those needs. You don't need value on every contract. And no one is advocating for a super mega deal. I don't want Max Scherzer or Zach Grienke at 175M. I wanted Annibal Sanchez at 80M. (Just as an example)

That's part of it yes. How he values free agents. Turf. Canada. 20 years of no playoffs. So many reasons for guys to NOT come here. If you really need an Annibal Sanchez or Asdrubal Cabrera or Jose Abreu or a Brian McCann (all guys that he should have been hard after) you have to pay. And that's the caliber of player he SHOULD be after. Not Cano or Scherzer cause they'll get stupid contracts, but that quality second tier.

Yeah he's said that before. They just won't sign a Pujols/Cano/ARod/Fielder contract and I don't blame them one bit. I don't want them to. It's the quality mid tier free agents he's been failing to sign that bothers me.

Good call Look, I'm all for signing Melky if he agrees to a reasonable 3-4 year deal. If he won't, taking a draft pick and signing Aoki is a good plan B. I just don't want AA to let Melky walk and then decide he's fine with his "internal options" for the OF. I'll be honest - Part of my desire to keep Melky is because of my fear that he won't sign anyone to replace him if he walks.

Well yeah exactly. No point being unrealistic and saying you want MB to be traded for a cheap stud MIF and saying you'll sign Scherzer within the savings. We all want that but ain't gonna happen.

I think we end up with sub par defenders in LF and RF next year no matter what we want. I can't see AA signing Markakis. The focus may have to be on improving the infield defense and making sure the rotation has as many ground ball guys as possible. (Eg. Sanchez, not Happ)
