  1. Normally I'd expect them to regress and wouldn't be too worried about it, but it's possible that just as the over-performers do so the injured guys may be ready to return.
  2. Didn't see this posted anywhere, and it's an interesting read. Maybe if we're lucky JPA will read it too... http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/davidi-patient-approach-paying-off-for-lind/
  3. As it stands right now, both wild cards would come from the AL East.
  4. Really if you draft a guy like that, why not keep him a two-way player? Develop both sides and see which ends up most valuable for you? Maybe you get a good pitcher who can legitimately pinch hit, or a good hitter who can throw some mop-up innings.
  5. Maybe that's a thread we should create. Let this one be more for moves / injuries / etc?
  6. The thing about Hayhurst is he calls it as he sees it both ways. He's also very good at praising people when they deserve it. If he only focused on the negative, then it might be an issue.
  7. Interesting article. I disagree with them that the bullpen itself has struggled though, since a good portion of the runs have been given up by the mop-up/filler guys. Just for fun: Janssen, Delabar, Cecil, Oliver, Loup: 24 earned runs in 92 innings Rogers, Lincoln: 20 earned runs in 28 1/3 innings dfa crew: 19 earned runs in 20 innings (Ortiz in relief, Storey, Gonzalez, Germano, Bush) Other: 2 earned runs in 5 1/3 innings (Jeffress, Santos)
  8. Just baseball-reference. Click on the team from the front page standings, then go to batting -> splits.
  9. Looks like the no-command Rodney is showing up tonight. Nothing like walking the first 2 batters in a two run game to face Napoli.
  10. The rookie Ozuna with the triple off Chapman to tie the reds game. Nice night for Hech too.
  11. Nope, it doesn't
  12. Thanks. Interesting article. It would be interesting to see the effects of weight on durability, but I don't know if there is a lot of data available for that.
  13. Well, they only got 2/3 of an inning out of their starter last night. This definitely puts a hurt on their pen, and that can only help us.
  14. "Joel Hanrahan had successful surgery to repair his flexor tendon. Dr Andrews also performed Tommy John surgery and removed bone spurs." Talk about a full service operation!
  15. I've noticed that if you aren't logged in prior to clicking on the insider article, it often doesn't show it even after you log in. You can either clear your cache, or just make sure you log in first.
  16. We are at .340 obp for May. Yankees are .290, Orioles .318, Boston .328, Tampa .366
  17. Unless we could get a true blue-chipper for him (unlikely), the cash (7.5M) is probably more valuable for where we are as an organization. With that said, getting Romero right again - assuming that's possible, is worth even more.
  18. I'd be interested in reading that too. It seems to me that pitchers who are a little (but not grossly) on the heavy side tend to hold up better than guys who are skinny as a rail. Smaller pitchers feel like they don't have as long an effective shelf life, but injury wise are about the same.
  19. I'm really digging what I've read so far about McGuire. He's supposed to have excellent defense and receiving skills, and a bat probably similar to Ruiz (my comparison based on what I've read, may be wrong). I wouldn't be at all upset with us taking him. With that said, it's hard to get a potential big bat like Frazier, especially when it combines some wheels on top of it. Can we really go wrong with either guy? A few quick google scouting reports (that aren't behind subscriptions). Perhaps if anyone has any other good ones they can post them: McGuire: http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2012/12/16/scouting-report-reese-mcguire/ http://rayscoloredglasses.com/2013/04/19/taking-a-look-at-the-top-catching-prospects-in-the-2013-mlb-draft-reese-mcguire/ http://www.thegoodphight.com/2013/5/16/4333946/2013-phillies-draft-preview-reese-mcguire http://blog.thenewstribune.com/preps/2013/05/16/movin-on-up-could-mcguire-end-up-being-the-next-johnny-bench/ Frazier: http://baseballprospectnation.com/2013/04/26/scouting-report-clint-frazier-of/ http://bigleaguefutures.net/1/2013/02/24/scouting-report-clint-frazier/ http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20444
  20. I swear every time the outfielders do that back bump I cringe expecting all 3 to go down injured.
  21. He's almost like an uncoordinated version of Vladdy. Gets the bat on the ball, but looks hilarious while doing so.
  22. Having someone to play LF is NOT the problem. Getting both Melky and Lind in the lineup if Melky has to DH IS.
  23. Why not just do one player, but if they hit a home run at any point in the game they get full points (and bonus points if they hit more than one)?
